Oh I have increased my water intake making sure I have at least 8 glasses a day. But surely that will help me lose weight not gain a ridiculously amount in such a short space?

Hey guys, cheers for your responses.
I use a pair of "quality" scales and weigh myself every time I wake up before I've eaten or drunk anything. I haven't been starving or gorging myself that I'm aware of. Every thing I do eat is healthy, for example I'd never have a slice of pizza or a packet of crisps or anything like that. It's just a bit of a mystery really. Wondered if anyone went through the same thing! See what the scales say tomorrow. If I go up again. I will just been amazed. |

I'm in a bit of a predicament. This last week and a half my weight has fluctuated like mad. I was 12 stone 2 pounds at my lowest and would never exceed 12 stone 5. My body fat was at 17.4%.
I have had the most gruelling week of exercise I can remember and my body physically aches all over so I know how hard I have worked yet the past week my weight and body fat has been increasing. As of today I am 12 stone 9 and have 20.1%! I don't understand it at all. I worked 4 weeks straight to get my body fat down. How can it have increased so dramatically when I haven't really changed anything!?!?! Any help would be appreciated. |

Clifford is god!
I had a slump last night as i pumped myself up as I'm starting MMA. I couldn't find the class after driving all the way there so came home late. I had deliberately missed my cardio session as i thought I would be doing 3 intense hours of work. Then I let myself attack the cheese late last night and felt rele sluggish and demotivated this morning. After reading some more Clifford magic and using my own will power I hit the bike hard and treadmill today and feeling sensational again. Well, apart from my bum hurting from the seat and all the bumps in the road! Bring on Jeet Kune Do tonight! If i can find the damn place. |

Right on the money cliff! That's the most sensible and sound advice i've seen on this site since joining. He's 100% right. It gets under my skin when people think it's easier for others and harder for them. Heck, I'm getting stronger and fitter everyday, but when I look outside and see it's pissing it down (raining), I'm cold and aching, do I think hey it's harder for me then everyone else. Nah. I get on with it. To be the best you have to beat the best, and the only person I can compare myself to is actually myself. Therefore I must try and better myself each time! Kudos Clifford.

Ha you guys are obviously weight lifting pros. ahem. It definitely does something. It's more core stability and posture work. Like I said. I do weight training also along with cardio and have my protein shakes too. And yes they are miles more effective and i don't get worked up doing the plate. Tiger Repellent? Sign me up! Ha. Didn't realise I'd get flamed for this! Was merely wondering if anyone uses them and thats all. Teach me to keep my mouth shut. Weights and shakes from now on I guess.

Hey there.
My parents recently bought a powerplate. For people who don't know what that is it's basically a machine which you can perform exercises on while a plate below you vibrates at different frequencies stimulating your muscles. Just wondering if anyone out there uses them or has any good experiences with them. Been using mine for about two/three weeks now and it seems to do good. Good to mix it up from cardio and weights. |

The most underated piece of equipment which works the abs is a Slendertone belt. They are genius.
I'm not a big sit up fan as it hurts my lower back after it starts to hurt my stomach. Seriously, hit the slendertone and u will defo see and feel the difference. Totally worth it. You won't be disappointed. |

I tell you what is depressing. Reading this post!
Best way to combat the *watching the clock syndrome* is to find and make an exclusive list of all your favourite songs and have them belting out during exercise. Personally there is nothing that gets me out of a rut then having some Enrique Igelsias belting out. Something cheery and happy. Avoid stuff like death metal as that promotes more of an angry workout! But if thats what you need to jolt you then feel free. I also find visualising is a great way getting through a period of exercise. You bring up all these things that upset you so why don't you use them positively? For example. People you don't like, past events, bad days, old relationships. Use them. Just think about their reaction when they see what a transformation has taken place. How good you will feel inside. In the words of 50 Cent 'I need you to hate, so I can use it'. You will be surprised how well this works. You claim that you feel ugly. Well let me put it to you like this. If a man had a choice of a fat ugly girl, and a slim ugly girl. Who would he choose? Now I'm sure your not ugly and you just feel down in yourself right now but putting it coldly the man would more than likely choose the slim girl depending on his tastes ; ) And is it really all about attracting the opposite sex? I know this post seems a bit harsh but I have been reading many of your posts for a while and believe people are being to 'softly softly' with their advice. Ignore what everyone else is doing, people on the news, papers, and focus on you. You are the important one. Hey if I read Mens Health Magazine everyday I would probably burst into tears. But I know that its about me and no matter who I blame or what excuses I make up, once you get past that initial *I can't be bothered* stage it will be second nature and you will just feel amazing. YOU CAN DO THIS! NO EXCUSES! I and it seems everyone else wants you to succeed! What more motivation do you need???? Come on joanne. Step up now. |

Whenever I need any extra motivation I look to places I usually wouldn't have considered before.
For example I watched a film called 'Just Friends'. Don't know if anyone has seen it but basically in the film a guy is in love with a girl but is very fat and although this isn't the reason she won't get with him, he goes away and comes back looking superb and gets the girl in the end! I know thats quite fickle but hey it made me lift weights when i was thinking of having a rest day! Like a lot of people have said it really is all about making small changes and sticking at it. Earlier comments which said 'it's great to see yourself beating targets you couldn't do before' are so true, if you can't physically see the results then you can definitely feel them! Also remember to mix it up! I discovered squash the other day and thought hey, it's not gunna be as tiring as my 7 mile run, or my weight sessions, boy was I wrong! The next day, although during the session I didn't feel physically drained (another sign of improved fitness), I had aches and pains in places I never even knew! |

Yeh depression can be a bad one to overcome. I was in the shape of my life around 16-17 with a basic six pack. I used to do reps with my ex gf and she wasn't light! But when we split I got lazy and thought what's the point?
I now use things like that to motivate me, day dreaming whilst running is a great one to get you through difficult areas. I imagine i'm Lars Ulrich playing my ass off at a gig! Whatever works for you though! |
