Not a good day. I allowed work stress overpower my willpower. A day that started off well, didn't end as well nutritionally. There is room for improvement.

Right now my goal is to just log what I'm eating. Once I've got that habit back again, it will be easier to tackle some of these other issues. The pretzels are there as substitutes for buffalo wings or chips. I agree with cutting out the "rubbish" carbs... just taking it one step at a time. I should be eating between 2375 cals and 2500 cals to eventually reach my weight of 200 lbs. Suz, I actually didn't eat the celery or carrots. I cut up the celery and carrots. I put them in a bag and took them with me to visit my Dad. However, as soon as I walked in the door a plate of wheat thins and cheddar cheese was thrust in my face (its like every family event there). I ate as healthy as I could without offending anybody. I avoided the hot dogs, the margaritas, the beer, the whipped cream, the ice cream, and the apple cake. I'll consider it as much of a victory as I could get for today. At least my carrots and celery are ready. I'll just take them with me to work tomorrow. HAPPY 4TH OF JULY EVERYONE! ![]() ![]() |

Katie, sorry to hear about your problem. If you haven't tried it, I would suggest using one of those soft plastic mouthguards that wrestlers and American football players use. I don't know if that would help?
Anyway, I think that doing something is better than nothing. If you have the extra time and access, ellipticals probably are a great option. Maybe consider swimming as another alternative. |

Keeping it up with the food logging. I went with my Dad to a 4th of July celebration today (Uh Oh - more events tomorrow). My goal for tomorrow is to eat some carrots and celery. I want to keep my calorie count below 2500.

Here's mine for today. It started off pretty badly when I made my oatmeal... and then left for work without eating it. I also managed to forget to pack my lunch. Things rolled downhill from there. Okay, I need to get back into logging my meals. I am going to try to post my calories up here for 30 days using screenshots off of my FitDay program. It's not a perfect solution, but hopefully it will work to get me back into the habit.
![]() ![]() If you are wondering what happened with my calories, my day started off really good. However, I had a trainwreck when I came home from work. My wife had made burgers... and I have gotten into the habit of replicating a fast food Buffalo Blue burger. Before I knew it, I had eaten the burger. This was followed by cravings for pretzels and a Peppermint Patty. So anyway, hopefully logging this can help me habituate myself out of this particular problem. |

Stephen - I'm pretty sure the garlic will take care of my vampire problems too. I hope.
Dan - That Thermacell sounds like its effective. I'm going to try the OFF clip repellent that Jacky suggested first since its cheaper. If that doesn't work, I may see about getting a Thermacell. Jacky - Good idea about the OFF. I'd seen the commercials but didn't think about them until you said it. I'll try your idea first. Mike - The bands might be a good idea too. I'll try to remember it. Thanks everyone. I think this will help. |

I had to wrap up my walk early. I was two-thirds done my walk when the bugs just became unbearable. I was being swarmed by gnats and beetles. It like being hit with little slimy Nerf bullets. I don't know if its this heat wave or all of the water we had a month ago, but this is ridiculous.
Bug spray always comes off when I sweat, and it's hot out there now. Other than bug spray, does anybody have any other good bug repellent strategies? |
