So I am writing to let you all know that 3 weeks ago I ran and got injured. Since then my weight increased to 225lbs...from 218lbs...I just signed up for a Learn to Run workshop- it is less distance and should be a bit slower pace. My injury feels better know and I feel I got good enough rest and will be doing my first run tonight.
I also reset my goal- I plan to be at 195lbs by December 1st...we shall see if I hit that mark as I'm also starting weight lifting and so I may gain some muscle which will hinder the number some. Wish me luck!

I went to put on a pair of pants and needed to put on a belt ...I looked around for a couple of my belts but the only one I remembered I had available I kinda grew out of it. I remember progressing past the last notch even after sucking in my gutt, so I threw the belt in my closet.
Anyway, I was looking for a belt and my wife reminded me that the belt was still in the closet. I grabbed it and it still doesn't fit- this time though the last notch on the inside of the belt was loose Ha ha ha! I went down 6 notches!!! LOL
Useless belt!

Great show Jeff and Russ! I also just watched "Foodinc." really great food documentary. Although some of the food regulations are different here in Canada it was still a good documentary.

I gained 2 lbs in the last two weeks- I up'd my calorie intake by 300 calories so I guess that may have something to do with it. It should all change when I start training for a 5km race though

LOL I added 500 calories to my meal plan and was fine all day yesterday- no hunger pangs- I'll see next Tuesday how it effects the scale.
I have been pretty active these past couple of days and with the weather up here in Canada...it looks like I'll be shovelling snow in the next couple of days.

Okay, so about 6 weeks ago I started the journey of changing my lifestyle. I did my BMR and it said that I should be taking in about 2300 calories if I want to lose about 1-2 lbs a week to my goal weight of 189 lbs. I did my homework and prepared a meal plan were I eat 3 big meals (500 calories) and 4 smaller snack times- roughly 200 to 300 calories; adding up to 500 calories. I was never hungry and felt great.
It is 6 weeks later, and I've lost a total of 15 lbs. (about 2.5 lbs a week) this week however, I have been starving!! I haven't changed anything in my meals- I have been eating the same since I started but now it is getting to the point were I have hunger pangs throughout the day.
Should I up my caloric intake a bit? My activity level hasn't changed either.
What should I do? Any suggestions?

Dawn, how many times a day do you eat? Eating more meals a day can speed up you metabolism. Also remember that muscle is heavier than fat.
The BMR calculations are correct. I've combined the BMR "recipe" with eating whole foods and I've lost about 15 lbs in 4 weeks. Just by watching what I eat. I eat 6 meals a day with 3 being bigger and 3 being snacks.

What do you do after a very bad week?
Fat 2 Fit Radio
|

You can't change the past only today. Every now and then everyone has one of those days; relax, enjoy it while it lasted but critique why you did it then forget it, learning why is the key.
The worst thing you can do is make a bad day into a bad week, then into a bad month, year, 5 years. One day of not eating well won't technically kill you.

I'm a puppeteer and Muppet means something totally different over in Britain...it means an incompetent or foolish person...I'm glad she clearified by writing "Co-host Russ Turley - who sounds endearingly like one of The Muppets" or it would have been a negative review LOL

I usually would eat 2 quarter chicken meals with fries, sodas, an appetizer, tons of ketchup on everything, gravy and Swiss chalet sauce. Then a cheesecake for dessert and a coffee.

My family surprised me with a trip to Swiss Chalet! I used my iPod to figure out what I could eat that would equal 500 calories. I ended up eating a medium baked potato with 1 tsp of sour cream and salsa. A chicken breast, skinless and only a little bit bigger than a deck of cards, salad and water. I was content and happy to go out for a change while still managing what I ate. I was a little over by 50 calories but my 8pm snack I took 50 off. I was pretty proud. If you knew what my old self would have ate you would agree. Lol

Well, I've manage to resurrect this thread to inform you all how I'm doing...I would suggest going to the beginning of this thread and reading my first couple posts.
Sadly I gained weight back and then some. By Jan 2010 I was the heaviest I had ever been and felt like crap. Well, this new years I started eating right and being more active. I lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks- I figured I was consuming about 3000 to 4000 calories a day prior to my new meal plan. I used the graph on Traineo to look at my habits and (oddly enough) always seem to work hard during January but in February start gaining weight and then start all over the following January. This Yo yo dieting has it's health concerns, so I have commited to learning from the graph and trying to not restart my old pattern of gaining it all back.
Presently, I also have been having problems staying motivated- I purchased a weight bench, put it together, made a work out routine, but have yet to use it. Any advice as to getting motivated, staying motivated? This is the time of year that people start to cheat in their fitness routine, stop going to the gym, begin eating food outside of their meal plan. Call it the winter blahs
If anyone else is finding it hard please post and maybe we can come up with some great solutions.

Pre-Cooking and Freezing

I am following Jeff's Kitchen "recipe" and it has allowed me to not fear lunchtime. Usually I would not know what to eat for lunch, so I would get take out. Preparing and freezing my meals has helped me in so many ways.
An example...
Every time there is someone's birthday in my office the boss treats everyone to a meal of the birthday person's choice. Well last week the birthday person chose Swiss Chalet! MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm! Anyway, I managed to stay on track and eat my pre-made lunch and forego the birthday meal. Everyone at the office ate fries smothered in gravy, etc. etc...while I ate roughly the same type of food but more controlled. Thanks Jeff!

Just watch out for those "Healthy Choices and Lean Cuisine" and some canned meals- they have TONS of sodium. I recommend cooking all your lunches on the weekend. I eat the same meal every lunch but it is delicious. It is Jeff's meal plan:
http://www.fat2fitradio.com/2009/01/welcome-to-jeffs-kitchen/
I basically turned on Jeff and Russ's show and began cooking. I was basically done one weeks worth of meals in the same time it took for the show to end.

I've written 4 Goals
1) I will be the winner of my office's "Biggest Loser" competition
2) I will be 189 lbs on May 4th, 2010
3) I will do 16 - 20 minutes of cardio daily
4) I will live a lifestyle of a 189 lbs person- by following my menu plan, lifting weights daily (except Sundays) and referring to my goals daily to keep me on track.
Since the 4th I've followed every rule and have lost 10 lbs! 7 of the ten were lost due to a fight with food poisoning but I've not diviated from my meal plan and feel great!

Purchasing a Treadmill
Fat 2 Fit Radio
|

Hey Bethany,
I've done some real indepth exploring and found that the best Treadmills out there can be found are Smooth Treadmills
http://www.smoothfitness.ca/
(they also have a site for US residence)
Their warranty policies are the best, customer care very positive and you don't pay for shipping. Their cost is lower than others because they skip the middle man.
I advise checking out the name and reviews online and see what people say.
My wife teaches running at the Running Room here in Hamilton Canada. So the treadmill needs to take a lot of punishment and still be sturdy. We looked into the different models and found this one fits into our price range and what we need.
http://discontinued.smoothfitness.com/treadmills/smooth-675.htm
If you aren't afraid of purchasing online I recommend looking into these treadmils.
Hope this helps
