His injuries are significant, but the Docs are still trying to figure things out. He will probably have a lengthy recovery.

Many of you "know" Dave as a traineo regular. A few of us actually know Dave in the real world too. You may have noticed he has not graced the pages of this site in about a week or so. That's because he had an unfortunate automobile accident about a week ago.Dave suffered some significant injuries, but he is receiving medical care and is working through the situation, trying to remain positive. He does not have internet access from his hospital bed, but we're working on that. I asked him if it would be OK for me to post a little update on his where abouts and condition, and he said go for it. If you would like to leave some words of encouragement here for Dave, I will occasionally print out your responses and bring them to him in the hospital until we can get him some wi-fi access. He has a long recovery ahead of him, but he's keeping his sense of humor, and really wants to get back on his feet and back on the road to a happy and healthy life. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers in the weeks and months to come. Thanks! |

Looking for your thoughts on these supplements
Off-Topic & General Chat |
OK, I had some very good gains when using both products, but it may have had nothing to do with the products... I just read that one of the main ingredients in NO2 may raise blood sugar levels... An interesting find with my current slightly high glucose issue.
Thanks for the feedback... At the very least I'm going supp free (minus protein) until I get my next blood test in 6 months. |

Does anyone have any strong views on MRI's NO2 and CE2 High Def?
Are these safe to take? I was taking them for a while, but was wondering if they maybe harmful... Your thoughts? Any doctors out there have any insight? |

7 Reasons You're Fat
Motivation Tips |
I'm not really "fat" anymore, but I'm still not where I want to be... In the past when I was "fat" It was reasons 1 (lazy), 3 (too much free time on TV, games, etc.), But I would often blame 2 (job) & 7 (you only live once) for it. At times 5 (depression/stress) & 6 (My friends are a bad influence) contributed, but working out is better for 5 and 6 is just a cop out...
All in all working out has helped with job stress, family stress, and other emotional stuff... Very constructive. And many of my friends have now gotten into getting healthy, even Traineo (nods to Erik, Dave, & Kenn to name a few) so that helps with motivation. I found that once I got into a grove, issues 1 and 3 have faded... Frankly 2 & 7 are just complete BS... |

Pre-Diabetes
Diet & Nutrition Tips |
I'm thinking I may need to adjust my goals and stop focusing on building muscle mass and switch to a reduced body fat %... Which is a shame because I've started making progress in building muscle and strength. Would increased muscle mass have much of an effect on the "pre-diabetes"???
Also, does anyone have any thoughts on the effect MRI's supplements: NO2 (hemo dialator) and CE2 (creatine) would have on this condition? I WAS taking those up until recently... |

The thing is, my gut is about as low as it will get with my frame and the requirements of day to day life. I flux between 34 and 33 inches...
I need to start eating carrots or something for snacks on the run at work rather than apples and such I guess... |

Pre-Diabetes
Diet & Nutrition Tips |
Thanks everyone for all the advice...
Yes, my Dr wants me to check back in around the 6 month mark. And to be fair he gave me some diet tips to increase my HDL, although he said it's pretty good already. He said with the family history he wants it really good. It was at 45... He just didn't have much to offer regarding the glucose. I'll start reading up and will start with the links provided above. And yes, the glucose level was after fasting from midnight to about 9 or 10 AM when I got into the blood place to give my sample. What common fruits are lower in GI? I love apples, but apparently they are high in sugar... I suppose I need to keep tabs on my beer intake even more so now too... Thanks again... |

Hello there...
I'm not a bodybuilder, but I have been trying to slim down and build muscle mass... I was just diagnosed with "Pre-Diabetes"... So, now my goals need to adjust to preventing the "Pre" from dropping off that... I want to keep building strength and muscle, but don't want to gain wait in my mid section... Any suggestions? |

Pre-Diabetes
Diet & Nutrition Tips |
OK, it's been a difficult week or two... My Dad almost died from yet another heart attack, only to recover in time to say farewell to my Mom who just died. She was suffering (for years) from the aftermath of several severe strokes, along with a terrible case of Alzheimer's. My oldest brother has diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. and my middle oldest brother has high cholesterol and now sleep-apnea. Bottom line, the family is not doing well at all...
I've seen this coming now for a while, which is why I've turned to Traineo and the gym. I have a child on the way, and figured I better get myself into shape and start taking care of myself. So, I went to the Doctor today, had a complete physical and he reviewed my blood test results... Good news, my Cholesterol is fine, no anemia, my liver and kidney functions are fine as well as my blood chemistry, but... My Glucose level is 108, which is considered within the "Pre-Diabetes" stage... So I got that going for me... The Doctor didn't give me much advice, other than keep hitting the gym and keep my waist size as small as possible... Has anyone else out there been diagnosed with "Pre-Diabetes"? Anyone have any tips? This sucks... One hell of a week... |

The calorie-conscious drinker
Diet & Nutrition Tips |
Hey guys, as Dave will tell ya, I'm a big beer drinker. I even make beer. But you know what, I figure the average beer I drink is below 200 calories, so I adjust my diet accordingly if I know I'm gonna have a few. Plus you should drink better beers, and less of them, to enjoy the quality. Don't get plowed, just drink for the enjoyment of the quality beverage. Quality, not quantity...
Any way, check out the diet portion of my beer blog and check out my traineo groupl |

A Navy Seal says, "Yes, you can still drink b
Beer = Yes / Guts = No |
Dave, I think his point is you can drink beer, just like you can have cookies... The gut is more about calories, not beer or cookies.
Now I didn't read his beer and dumbells thing, because you gotta dish out the cash, so maybe you're right there... Bottom line Sean, all things in moderation... If you enjoy beer and it makes you happy, then go for it, just don't over do it... Same goes for the cookies...

Stew Smith is a former Navy SEAL and fitness author certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Here's what he has to say about drinking beer and staying in shape...
There is no reason why you cannot have "six pack abs" and still drink a six pack a week. Once again, excessive beer drinking is not recommended by anyone in the health industry. If you simply enjoy drinking beer and are serious about your health, moderation in drinking alcohol and eating foods high in calories, combined with habitual daily exercise is your ticket to reaching your goals. For those who are into strength training, I have recently developed a weight training plan called "Beer and Barbells" that allows you to use the additional calories of beer, or milk shakes if you are under 21, to gain mass and strength. Weight Lifting / Strength Training
Exercise & Training Tips |
Here's what I did in my slimming and toning phase:
Using a machine, not free weights... Reps go as follows: Set 1 - 12 reps (something I can do easily, but still feel the muscles working, focus on form.) Rest for a minute or so... Set 2 - 8 reps (A more challenging weight now) Rest for a minute or so... Set 3 - 6 reps (A Challenging weight, get close to muscle failure.) Rest for a minute or so... Set 4 - 12 Reps (An easier weight, focus on form, last few should be a challenge.) Then I'd move on and do the same thing for another muscle group. After that revisit both muscle groups, with the same rep concept with dumb bells, but at that point you'll be tired so the weights will go down. After that, his a cardio machine for 30 minutes, and then do some abs and call it a day. Do this (alternating muscle groups | day 1 chest & tris | day 2 shoulders and bis | day 3 upper & lower back | etc.) 3 - 4 times a week. It worked for me... I've just altered my plan now to focus more on bulking up... |
