I provide IT support at a four year university, and like most of you, 95% of my day is sitting at the computer. Plus I've been taking classes since I get practically free tuition - so more sitting in class and at home. Ugh!
I combat some of the sitting by never taking the elevator at work (I'm on the 3rd floor and support users on the 1st floor.), and I ride my bike or walk to and from work and home for lunch (about 1/2 mile each way). In July, I drop from full-time to part-time, so hopefully, I'll have more time to workout and clean and just move around during the day!
Hi Rachael! Sorry I haven't been back here sooner, but yes, I want to keep 33 mins as my baseline run since I know it was my best run time pre-challenge.
I've run a 5k distance several times since the challenge started, but I keep forgetting to track my time! Today, I added up the times from the songs I listened to on my mp3 player while I ran, and it looks like my time tonight was 30:05. This was outside on fairly level ground, but I'll take it for now.
Looks like there are some nice improvements so far!
I'm not going to be able to get a true baseline run in before the 7th because I need new running shoes. (Mine are too tight - gave me a "black toe".) But, my best time to date for a 5k is 33 mins, so if it's okay, I'm going to use that as my baseline. I'd like to get it under 30 mins so we'll see.
Actually, I'm very interested to see what everyone can do in the next 8 weeks. It's sounds like we might end up with some folks who are really surprised by and proud of the progress they're going to make!
Oooh...I have a 5k run coming up on July 14th, so this will be good training for that! I just did 5 miles tonight, so I won't do another run for a couple of days. I'll post a baseline then.
I owe you a big thanks for some inspiration too! If we can find a person to do the swim portion, a friend and I want to do a team mini triathlon in August, I'm doing a 5k in July, and I'm planning to do a 1/2 marathon in October. You've always inspired me to want to take part in some sort of competition, and now I'm actually going to do it. So thanks!
And keep up the good work because you look fabulous and healthy!
I will try and post some new pictures soon, but I wanted to share that I have lost 100 lbs in 22 months. A little longer than some - but I think that will actually make it a little easier to keep it off too.
I don't know if I'll lose anymore - I'd still like to reduce my body fat % but I don't want to make any more scale related goals as I have no idea what an "ideal weight" is for me at this age and stage of my life. But thanks to all for your encouragement and help in getting me to this milestone!
LOL Matt! I'm in IT too, and I'm with you...I love my computer, but between work and my programming homework, I can't wait to get away from the computer sometimes!
I need to drop 2 to 5 more pounds to eek my weight to a "normal" BMI, so your post is encouraging to me! Keep up the good work and enjoy your VS purchases!
A Pizza Hut P'zone is considered two servings, and the meaty P'zone is actually a whopping 740 calories per serving for a grand total of 1480 calories if you eat the whole thing. Brian's suggestion is way fewer calories than that!
I have never really been able to run or jog much because my ankles, knees and hips would hurt so bad. So at 250 lbs, jogging didn't even seem like an option. But after many days of walking on my treadmill and starting to lose weight, I tried jogging and didn't kill myself. After a while I worked up to jogging 3 miles. Running isn't my favorite thing so I don't do it often, but I've worked up to sprinting at 7.0 mph on the treadmill which I never thought I'd do!
So keep going, Jill! We don't know what we can accomplish until we try!
I got my Wii fit a couple of weeks ago, but I've had little time to use it yet. My exercise routine is a little too robust for most of the Wii fit games to feel like much to me, but so far it's fun. And my biggest hope is that my hubby and kids will use it to segue into some sort of exercise routine.
Has anyone else successfully gotten their kids or spouse to workout with the Wii fit?
Woo hoo! Some great losses so far! Way to go! Watch out for Heidi though...she's all geared up for a big loss next week!
LW: 159
TW: 159
I have been plateaued for a while (6 weeks or so?) which is a little frustrating. On the plus side, I'm not gaining, I'm working out 5+ days a week, and the new strength training program I've been doing for the past 4 weeks is really helping me get stronger!
It is kind of spendy right now. The set was a Xmas gift from my Mom and Dad, but I'm guessing that at some point people will be selling it cheaper on ebay after it's not so new anymore.
Angie - the new recumbent bike sounds great! I got a Gold's Gym bike a month or so ago, and on the rare occasion I sit and watch TV, I like to do it while I pedal on the bike. I think I did 80 mins on it while watching the Biggest Loser season 6 finale. LOL Let us know how the bike works for you!
So is anyone (besides me) doing the new ChaLean Extreme workout? I just started this week, and today I did Burn Circuit II. OMG - my entire body still hurts from Burn Circuit I on Sunday!
For anyone that doesn't know, the creator of ChaLean Extreme is Chalene Johnson who created the Turbo Jam workouts. But this new series is geared toward strength training with weights instead of focusing on cardio. It's being compared (favorably) to the P90X program.
I've still got to get my husband to help me take some before pictures so I have something to compare to in 30, 60 and 90 days. If this works for me, I'll try to get some of those pics up here. If not, well...I'll come post that too.
I would really like to reduce my body fat percentage more and tone up, so I'm really hoping this series is a big step in the right direction for me. And I'm hoping that someone else out here in Traineo-land is trying this workout so we can compare notes!
Bobbi - I am also a mom of 2, a student and a full-time worker. The biggest thing is that I've had to learn to make time for me - even if it's just 20 minutes a day. I also fit in a lot of small things - I walk to and from work (or bike in the summer), I take the stairs everywhere, etc. Another thing that might help is if you take a physical education class. I'm going to be doing a "fast fitness" class this winter, and to get an A, I have to complete 40 - 30 min workouts at the university gym. I'm very goal-oriented, so knowing I have a grade on the line will help. Maybe that would work for you.
And don't get discouraged if you try something and it doesn't work for you. Just be flexible and keep trying. Maybe take the kids for walks or something. You'll find something that works for you.
Hi guys! Just wanted to let you know that over the past 3 days, I have not been able to post new forum topics while using IE 7. I had to download Mozilla Firefox to post the Biggest Loser Club's challenge results today.
I can REPLY to previously started topics from IE 7, just can't start new topics.
