Triathlon advice? Or cycle advice?

I can help you a bit here... Triathlon's are awesome to do. You can really get hooked! i would recommend that you look for all women's race first, it is less overwhelming. Also, I trained with a mountain bike but bought my first road bike before the first race. But I have seen some people actually do their first race on a mountain bike.

As for purchasing the Bike, I would definitely go to your local cycle shop and first see if they have a pre-owned bike that will fit your body frame, VERY IMPORTANT! I started out with a $1000 road bike but soon had to upgrade to a Tri-bike. I won't tell you how much I spent... but the equiptments can really add up. My recommendation is to see if this is something that you want to do before you start spending money on equiptments.

Good luck and I am planning to get back into doing Tri's this year, I figured 2 years is long enough break after an Ironman....

How's every one doing? I have been really good about exercising, however, I have been horrible with eating. I think part of it had to do with the fact that I had not set firm action goals for eating.

So here it is...

1) eat Breakfasst, lunch, dinner

2) pre-plan food menu

3) get rid of junk in the house

Hope everyone is doing well and keeping up with their action goals.

Okay, I am listening to this weeks podcast and decided to break my goals down to monthly action goals and write them down. BTW, like Jeff recommended, I am also going to get the 12 month calendar to start viewing it all in one place.

I decided to focus my goals on an action steps rather then the end result. So, this month's goal for me is to go to the gym 4 times/ wk and also sign up and do a fun run. Since my husband just signed us up for 15k Run on Jan. 19th, although it'll be more walk/run for me... I guess I am now committed. I decided to focus more on the activity rather then the end result. I figured, if I do the activity and be consisitant, the result will follow!

As Jeff said, "get out there and do the stuff!"

Hi, Missy.

I saw some great exercise info on Self magazine and Women's health magazine websites.

Also, what do you mean clean whole foods? I'm trying to eat healthier and less process food and would like additional info.
Happy New Year!

I am actually looking forward to 2008. me and my BFF are planning to use this site as a motivation tool to start losing weight. I decided to officially start on Jan. 1st, giving myself one more "bad" day. I will log my weight first thing on jan. 1st and get from Fat 2 Fit.

Hi,

I have been listening to weight loss podcast for about 10 months... but I really like the fomat of THIS podcast. It really seems like Jeff and Russ care about helping others. I was so impressed, I had my bff Cathy sign up also and we listened to the podcast together last night.

It seems my problem is that I am all or nothing kind of person. I'll be super active and committed for few years and then "bam" just fall off the wagon. After competing in the Ironman Triathlon in Nov. 2005, I have pretty much been just floating... thus the 20lbs of weight gain. Part of it was from injury but I also travel 75% of the time to overseas. That is why I need to make this a balanced lifestyle. I would like to create a lifestyle where it doesn't seem like it has to be all or nothing.

As for the 2008 goals:

I found that I need a challenging goal in order for me to stick to the program. My husband wants me to do a marathon with him this year, but that means that I have to be totally committed and disciplined. I would love to lose 20 lbs by my 40th b-day party... but I realize that need to set smaller goals that I can break it down and hopefully this group will motivate me to stay committed and fabulously fit.
