Finals Week: Eat On
Diet & Nutrition Tips

oh i remember those days! pulling entire all nighters...sometimes days in a row. i'd eat entire frozen pizzas, hit up 24hr fast food places, etc... and be ok with it. (i'm also a stress-eater!) i don't think i'd be able to feel good about it if i did it now.
i also remember spending nights on the third floor of the undergrad library....

lunch: vegetarian curry w/ rice and naan! i'm still working on portion control. usually i can eat the ENTIRE thing in one sitting, but this time left about 1/4 of the rice and half the naan. (had to kill off the actual curry though - it was goooood!) baby steps.
im looking at about maybe 1,100 calories for the whole thing.
Looks like a light dinner for me...

breakfast:
fiberONE granola bar, grapes...about 300 calories
lunch (w/ coworkers!):
i had an egg salad on 9-grain (ate the whole thing! it was so yummy!), a handful of chips, half a cup of chicken soup...i estimated the whole thing to be around 1,100 calories. (ouch!)
i'm at about 1,400 calories for the day. i might need to take it easy for the rest of the afternoon and evening....maybe a light dinner in between yoga and the studio!

glovia - no cereal for 5 weeks? time will pass quickly, no worries... then u can eat cereal to your heart's content!
i clocked in my 45 minutes on the elliptical today, after about 10 minutes of moderate weights to just warm me up. hmmm... felt good!
tomorrow, i've got yoga! excited!
how's everyone doing?

is hunger always bad
Diet & Nutrition Tips
|

haha cliff is great for stuff like this!
i have your problem - eat 'till i'm stuffed... and now that i'm not... then what?!?! HUNGER! i've been working on my portion control for about three weeks and now that it's starting to click, i actually start feeling UNCOMFORTABLE if i eat TOO much.
the best thing that worked for me is (yes, water!) and healthy finger food - grapes, almonds, fiberONE bars (very filling!), raspberries, chopped apples, peeled oranges, etc... stuff that you can pick at and won't eat ALL AT ONCE. drink lots of water in between each bite!
also, be careful of the foods you choose - multi grain and whole wheat really help with it! i even buy those evil little wheat thins in 5-grain (delicious!) and whole wheat (yum-may!). i've discovered (the hard way) that those little 90-calorie bars aren't filling or very satisfying at all and in the end, i end up eating more afterwards so switching to a fiber-rich snack w/ more calories might be a better investment since it will keep you full and satisfied.
wow. novel. hope that helped! good luck!

Thanks for input and encouraging words, guys!
I gave my body a rest yesterday and didn't go to the gym - mostly because i didn't really want to and I knew that if I went in, i wouldn't have done a very good job of it at all. Now here I am today, excited to go work out tonight!
Today, I'll do some calisthenics and some cardio.

How many calories do people aim for in their meals
Diet & Nutrition Tips
|
Posted: March 19, 2008
hmm.... i tend to graze until i hit lunch (which is late for me since i'm busy during the day.) my calorie intake is usually at about 400-500 until about 3:30. Lunch is usually about 300-400 calories... I don't like to eat too much because I head into the studio around 5:30 and I don't like dancing on a full tummy!
AFTER the studio though, dinner is usually around 500 calories ...dessert... a good 200 or so. i usually end my day with around 1500-1700 calories... which is more than my suggested intake...but not too bad.
that's why i have to work out!

i cracked today and had 3/4 of a taco del mar super burrito for dinner so i plan on heading into the gym tomorrow to work it off: 15 minutes of weights followed by 30 minutes of cardio! (i'll be spending about 3 hrs in the studio before that so i think that should take care of it for a day...)

Cardio before or after yoga?
Exercise & Training Tips
|
Posted: March 17, 2008
Hi guys, thanks for your input!
I actually decided to go in and try a kickboxing class (brutal! im sore!) before yoga and I really liked it. I didn't fall asleep because of the adrenaline from before and the stretching felt good afterwards. I think I'll stick to kickboxing before yoga.
Mucho gracias!

Cardio before or after yoga?
Exercise & Training Tips

I haven't done yoga in a while (mostly because I tend to doze off in the meditation) but I've decided to return to it once a week. I know it's usually best to do anaerobic exercises before cardio, but I'm usually so sleepy after yoga.... Would it be bad to do cardio BEFORE my class? I'd really appreciate your input, thanks!

you know whats killer? wheat thins... those little suckers are addicting. i had to give away my box because i kept opening it and munching on them.
well, i made it in for my spinning class, taught a class today and im off to rehearsal in about 2 hours. the rest of my day was spent watching the history channel and pretty much nothing else haha
tomorrow, if i wake up in time i'll head out for kickboxing class. if not, i'll do calisthenics and some cardio later in the day, hehe!
great job and good luck everyone!

oh my, i nearly skipped my gym workout today! i attended poker night with the buddies and ended up eating too many whoppers, some ramen and a handful of caramel popcorn (poker nights are KILLER for a someone trying to watch what they eat!) I ended up feeling pretty guilty about it so i went in for my workout... did more weights and less cardio than orignally planned but its better than nothing! Off to bed now... to wake up for that spinning class!

uhm, today i'm going to take a break from the gym! i have rehearsal for 3 hours... which should take care of my physical activity for the day, i think.
tomorrow though, I am committing to at least 20 minutes of weights and 45 minutes of cardio.
whats everyone else up to?

i did! i made it to gym! logged in 15 minutes of mid-level weight training as a warm down from studio time, followed by 45 minutes of intervals on the elliptical. if it weren't for this thread, i would have skipped the gym. my thoughts: can't fail my traineo buddies!!
cardio, one job isn't easy so kudos on holding it down with two! extra kudos for fitting in a workout amongst the hectic-ness.
the new me - thanks for checking on me! i totally need it....
good job everyone!

good job on the cardio, new me!
being a dancer is really fun but i've realized that i cannot dance forever. (hence, my 9-5 in advertising.) since getting my job, i've spent more time at the desk and less time in the studio (where i spend more time teaching now than performing), so i'm trying to stay in shape (yay for traineo!).
additionally, i also have two left feet without the direction of a choreographer... i walk into stuff all the time and trip over everything and nothing at all!
thank goodness for this thread... i know i have to head in to do some cardio today but i my head was starting to come up with excuses to not need to so here is my commitment:
even though i have an hour in the studio today, i will head in and do 30-45 minutes (depending on how intense that one hour of dance will be) of cardio.
whew, now that i've written it down and shared it with you all, i HAVE to do it. no excuses! [you guys are the best!]

oh! im sorry i didn't answer your question from before... must have slipped off my radar. i'm a studio-trained dancer and i spend quite a few hours in there per week. if it's intense enough, i consider it a workout. i'm a little bit apprehensive about logging it though because ive been dancing for so long, i feel that my body is used to it might not even consider it a workout or anything - which explains why i need to head into the gym for those cardio sessions!

i always feel its okay to treat yourself - grab sour cream and cheese on the side! one meal won't ruin it all for you. if anything, rice + beans is always yummy, and chicken fajitas are really filling and not too bad at all.

I take two green tea extract pills every morning. They say it's supposed to raise metabolism, but I take it for the antioxidants and stuff. I have a friend who's on Hydroxycut and he says it works for him. I dunno though... it feels that once off that stuff, the weight could come right back on....
