CROSSFIT - anyone?
Training Routines |
Thanks guys! Apollo, if I lived by you, I would make this easy and become Chez Apollo CrossFit's second member!
I have some rings that I bought a couple years back when I tried CrossFit. I found a place to hang those from my neighbor's patio, so that works for now. I also have some dumbbells and suppose I could get a kettlebell and a jump rope. That all sounds easy enough. Thanks again for the advice! |

Fitness and diet goals to complete by the end of this year
Off-Topic & General Chat |
Lindsey,
Completing a 5K has always been a goal of mine too. I love the C25K program, but absolutely have not been able to get myself to a point where I can get past the 8 minute runs outside without stopping. I have started over numerous times, but I think I might just try for that 5K and do a walk/jog combo! Best of luck to you on your goals!! Jennie |

CROSSFIT - anyone?
Training Routines |
Apollo or Dan (or anyone else who posts here), I just jumped on this thread because I saw the title of Crossfit. I tried this a couple years back and LOVED it. However, there are not really any resources or a gym near my house that do this. What would either of you recommend for some home equipment where I could do some of the basic elements of Crossfit without transforming my condo into a gym?
Any advice or resources would be appreciated! Thanks! |

Great article on Omega oils and obesity
Diet & Nutrition Tips |
Great article David! Thanks for sharing it!
I have heard many nutritionists say that Omega-3's are THE most important supplement. I have been adding flax seed to my oatmeal for years. Not only does it give me the Omegas, but it keeps me fuller longer. Perhaps I will look into supplementation for more Omega-3's since, like you, I don't eat much fish. Thanks again! |

That fast???

Scales are only one form of measurement and are not always perfect (perhaps battery?). Therefore, I would go with the 211!!

Cause and Effect
Off-Topic & General Chat |
I think that statement is exactly where the problem lies. Our society is so fully engrossed in the need to experience immediate gratification and results that it makes it hard for a lot of people to see what they are doing to themselves until it is too late. That need for immediate results and gratification is also why the diet drug industry continues to do so well with more and more equally useless diet drugs. People want fast results without having to really take a look at their lives and change their lifestyles. I also agree with Matt about lack of education. I think that if people don't WANT to seek out the education to change their lives, that is something that we can't help them with. But, to me, what is more scary is the "education" that is out there that is teaching bad habits?? That means there are people who WANT to change their situation, and THINK they are making the right steps, but are learning all the wrong information. I mean, I think you will all agree there is a LOT of BAD information floating around in the world isn't there? I think the REAL challenge is finding the right information to learn how to lead a truly healthy life. For me, the word moderation is the one word that just keeps coming back over and over. Any "diet" that promotes excessive amounts of anything or completley eliminating anything raises red flags to me. My experience has been that those types of "diets" are not sustainable in the long term. Exercise AND healthy eating is key! Rachael you are right too... we can't MAKE anyone want something. Isn't that frustrating at times? Especially for our loved ones... |

OK, so far I have lost a total of 38.5 pounds in this ongoing journey... and that is equivalent to this cute little Dane puppy's weight at 16 weeks old. Say hi to Zoe everyone!

Great job Ed! Doesn't it make you feel good when you are done and you have accomplished the jogging part? Don't worry about speed yet... just keep at it!

I've pretty much given up.
Diet & Nutrition Tips |
Mikaela,
This post makes me sad because it seems there is SO much more going on here than just a problem with eating. You seem to be struggling with a lot of self-image issues, self-esteem, etc... Almost all of us who have struggled with our weight can relate to this. you have to fix the inside and the outside will follow! Like Matt said, what is something postive you have going on in your life? Focus on those things, and surround yourself with people who will lift you up and not tear you down. You are young... don't focus on the scale so much or what society says you should look like... try and learn about yourself and what you like about yourself and go from there! Good luck! |

I fell in LOVE with Crossfit when I was introduced last year, but there is no where really locally for me to plug in... I would love to learn more about it though...
