Lara, you can try going to a local Gamestop and picking up a Wii LAN adapter, it's a device that plugs into the USB on the back of your Wii and allows your hook up a regular network cable to it...that is if your router or cable modem is nearby your Wii.

I will admit that when I first started using this site, I was a daily contributor to the cause. Post here and there, keep up with my motivatees (sorry for being so slack lately guys, you know I wanna see ya hit that goal) and that was it. But It was a daily process. For the past 2 weeks though, I've been extremely busy with other things and finally decided that as much as I enjoy this website, it being a daily thing in my life isn't a big factor.
That and the fact that I had been backing out of my workouts lately, plus my diet, and felt some extreme guilt

Don't get nervous Kat, you seem to be alot better off that that, and I highly doubt you are a food addict. Also, I'm sure you can find a handful of non-faith based support groups out there. Plus, there's always us.
Back to the addict comparison, I would safely assume the people in the TLC documentary mentioned by Layla (have to see if I can find it), those people probably felt like they would DIE if they didn't eat that much food. I don't think you're at that point Kat, nor do I think you ever will be. there's a book I have at home about addictions, once I can get home and read that, I'll post some more opinions on it. PS: 100th Post (WOOT WOOT!) |

Best Games?
Wii |
Wii Play is good as a party game, just standard stuff really.
Zelda was fun until I beat it. Then it was depressing cause it will take another 2 1/2 to 3 years before I can swing that sword again. As far as games to get into for the long term, good luck, there's not much yet. But in the meantime, you can RELIVE THE CLASSICS as you pay for and download Virtual Console titles onto your Wii!!! *stands by mailbox, awaiting check from Nintendo* |

Not to spark a religious debate here, but there's a verse from the Bible that perfectly sums it up.
"Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial" I don't think God would've said that unless He felt a need to say it, believe what you will, but I think that it is highly possible for ANYTHING to become addictive in our lives. Especially FOOD of all things. I remember back about oh..8 or so years ago, I had gotten my first job, so I set up my first bank account, my usual teller there was a friend of my mothers and she and I would chat quite a bit, well over a year or two, I eventually stopped making money (jobless spell for awhile) and my account didn't grow, so I never went there. One day, I walked in after not being there for awhile and saw this teller and didn't recognize her because she had lost so much weight! I asked her how it happened and told me this: "One day, I realized how addicted I was to food. I would eat lunch and immediately begin to think about dinner. I would have a snack during the day, and couldn't wait until I had my next meal. The day I stopped obsessing or constantly thinking about my next meal was the day I started losing weight" If you ask me, that's a food addict. Someone who eats for sheer joy or pleasure of eating. (which by the way, can also be a definition of a glutton...almost) And there are people out there who can't exhibit the kind of self control that an average person does. Just like those who are alcoholics or drug addicts, etc etc. It might be odd to consider that something so necessary to possibly be an addiction, but it's a very scary reality. |

Good for you music
Christian Traineos |
Actually, I have quite a list myself, I was just curious what others have. Here's my list of songs I listen to while I run:
Grits (practically the whole album of Dichotomy A or The Art of Translation) Revolution - Starfield Falling in the Black - Skillet Rebirthing - Skillet Beautiful News - Matt Redman You Never Let Go - Matt Redman Bounce - Manafest Rawkfist - Thousand Foot Krutch Original Roots in Stereo - POD Stereo - 4th Avenue Jones Dancing Generation - Matt Redman Here is our King - David Crowder Forever and Ever - David Crowder I've got countless others, I think. Like everyone here, I'm a music fanatic. a 30GB ipod near capacity proves that I think

train at home. but when?
Motivation Tips |
I'm a late sleeper, I'm normally waking up 30 minutes before I have to be at work (I wake up fast, no coffee for me), so mornings are not my thing. I workout in the afternoons after I get home, I've structured it so I can go for a run at least 5 times a week, if I can slip some extra workout time (weights or play Wii Sports), then it's a bonus
Inga, it's like everyone said here already, it really all depends on when you want to do it the most, I would suggest trying out both times, early in the morning and late in the afternoon (or around lunch time, if you dare) and see what works best for you. I have yet to find any research that says "You need to work out at this time...." |

How to slim up on the Hips and Thighs
Exercise & Training Tips |
If you ask me, I have a positive way of looking at this. It's actually relieving to know that I don't have to put myself through countless different exercises to lose weight in (or shape) certain areas. Take my stomach for example, I don't have to do countless stomach crunches (they help, but to lose some inches there? not necessary) to really lose in that area. So if, for some certain reason, I am unable to implicate certain exercises into my routine, it's not a big deal, because regular weight loss takes the fat with it.
Am I right in my logic, or am I off the log (again) ? |

Something you said struck a nerve Joann, (but not in a bad way).
The Bible also says that in everything we do, we must do for the glory of God. It never struck me until recently how difficult this can be when we're dieting and whatnot. Think about it....how many of your own (and my own for that matter, I am talking to myself just as much as you) goals in this journey are for selfish reasons? Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that we're all doing this for the wrong reasons, I just know that for me personally, I have to watch myself daily because my desires get in the way of God's desires for me. I am sometimes so concerned with making sure that I maintain my calorie count or that I get that workout in, that I sometimes forget the necessary time spent with fellow Christains, or worse yet, my prayer times! Yes, God wants me to be healthy, and God wants me to do what is necessary to get that way (diet, exercise, etc etc)...but when my regimen does not include a daily dose of God (sounds like the subline of a book title, I know)...how can I really say that I'm allowing God to work in my life through this? Just a reminder to myself, and others: If you're doing this, and I mean REALLY doing this, make sure your heart and desires are in the right place and focused on the right subject. Then and only then, will you succeed. |

Does anybody know of a program/website/way to break down the ingredients of your food and determine their calorie makeup?
I just found this receipe for something called a "Tuna Puff", which is 1 1/2 cups of Mashed Potatoes, 1/2 tsp of seasoned salt, 1 egg and 1 can of tuna, and it's an awesome receipe, but I'm just curious of it's caloric, fat makeup. Anybody got a website or utility I can use to figure this out? |

This might seem silly, but is it also possible that your stomach "gets used to it?" After awhile, it gets used to the amount of food we feed it and we tend to not feel so empty, or is this a myth?

Drink Alternatives?
Diet & Nutrition Tips |
i'm still on the fence about sucralose, I have acutally done some reading on it here. But have been unable to really garner an opinion on it yet. If anybody has some good articles on it, I'd love to see 'em.
Everything I have read or experienced says that the first few days (even weeks) of any kind of change can result in a gain of weight as your body adjusts to changes. Plus, never freak out over daily fluctuations, weight yourself..then ask yourself, "Ok, where was I at one week ago?"...that's where the real change comes. But the first few days or week can be a little "haywire" as your body adjust to the change. congratz on going 4 days without caffeine or asparlame. It's a big accomplishment for some! |

vacation time!
Diet & Nutrition Tips |
going on a trip is kinda tough on the diet, especially when you don't know what kind of food you can encounter. Counting Calories for the past 4-5 weeks is a great start, because by now you should have a good amount of knowledge of what you basically eat has as far as calories go. With that, guesstimations could be in order.
If you weren't staying in a resort, but in a hotel, I would suggest you go to the major restaurant's websites (TGI Fridays, Chili's, etc etc) and download their Nutritional Infomation PDF's, they're full of all their menu items' calorie counts. outside of that, you could check the resorts website to see if they have menus or food listings so you can precheck nutritional information. and outside of THAT, you could just make a conscious effort to really look at the food you're going to eat and ask yourself "Is this really good for me?" Salads always seem to be a safe bet for me, as long as I go easy on the dressing. If you're going on a trip with a friend or significant other, ask them ahead of time to help you out with this. Also, portion control, even if what you eat is REALLY bad for you, eating a small amount of it should suffice. Also, take meal bars. Sometimes, if I'm on trips with my youth group and I can't find anything at the local McDonalds that's good enough for me (and we all know nothing is), I make sure to pack some meal bars and munch on those. SlimFast are my favs because they're very dense and got alot of nutritional stuff. I hope those tips help, definitely keep up the cardio while your on the trip, but don't overdo it....you're on vacation for goodness sakes! Hope this helps! PS: We love you too

Running a 5k
Exercise & Training Tips |
I'm gonna try and get my hands on a heart rate monitor soon, so I make sure I'm not killing myself.
Right now, given my current weight, I think I run pretty good. I don't time how long I can run without stopping, I time by miles. I can run a straight mile (sometimes longer if the body is up for it)...for the most part, I really don't push myself. I've only been really running for a month, so I'm trying to get myself comfortable with it all again. It's a slow process, but one that I'm actually enjoying. |

6 miles?!!! Man I got a way to go. My current stats are that my average 5k run is about 45-55 mins, depending on how I'm feeling before I run.
Weak, yes I know, but we all got to start somewhere. Can anybody tell me what a "Fun Run" is? |

Luckily, I have the Nike+ system, it has a prebuilt workout option for a 5k distance run, so I can start by pacing myself with that and see where my runs actually lie. |

I was able to find a list of 5k's on coolrunning.com (I've loosely been following their 5k program), but the terms confused me. I don't want to get into something super competitive, I'm just want to see what they're like, I see the term "Fun Run" in a few of them, what's that all about?

Running a 5k
Exercise & Training Tips |
Howdy guys, i've been looking into doing a 5k down the road, and I was wondering if anybody had some personal experiences they could share here. I've never done a race of any kind, so I don't know what kind of preparations I should take and I definitely have no clue if I'm even ready for a 5k. Anybody got some information or a place where I can go look?
Thanks. |
