Mike,

On FitDay, if you don't have the information for an entire dish, you can add it to your log ingredient by ingredient. For example, if you get a roast beef sandwich, you could individually add 2 slices of whatever kind of bread, however many ounces of roast beef, cheese, dressings, etc. Hope that helps

Jon, I would guess that cleaning your room would fall under Domestic Activity, Home Repair, or Vacuuming. I guess it would depend on what exactly you were doing.

For jumping on the bed, I would guess that aerobics on Easy would be the closest you could get...

As Seen on TV...(unique exercises)
Exercise & Training Tips
Posted: April 08, 2007
I know any time I watch a show where someone is being personal trained (The Workout, Extreme Makeover, etc), it always looks like they are doing such fun stuff. I guess the reason it looks so "fun" is because what they are doing is so different...you rarely see people on TV just using a weight machine or bench pressing, which is what just about everyone in the gym I work at does on a daily basis. What "unique" exercises do you know of?

Lately, I have been thinking about trying these:

Running backwards on treadmill, moderate to high incline

Push-ups on wobble board/balance bean

These clips from The Workout are interesting.

More clips if you change to season 1 and watch the fitness tips.
Bad Gifts and Stress Eating
Motivation Tips

I'm also a stress eater. Any time I worry in excess or get upset, I immediately turn to food. Most of the time I will eat just one bad meal (double cheeseburger meal from McD's, for example), but sometimes I will just snack on junk like chips and candy all throughout the day. Luckily, most of my family and friends are now aware that I am trying to lose weight and don't put me in situations like the one you described. My mom replaced my usual Easter candy with other stuff this year
Running Backwards on Treadmill
Exercise & Training Tips
Posted: April 08, 2007
I was watching The Workout on Bravo the other day and noticed one of the trainers had his/her client running backwards on a treadmill set with a moderately high incline. What is the benefit of this? Has anyone incorporated something like this into their routine? I thought about trying it at the gym the other day, but I work there and didn't want to look crazy

Games That Make you Sweat
Wii

Rayman Raving Rabbids! I think it has a workout mode. A lot of the games that involve a lot of really quick arm movement (such as the ones where you have to pump your arms in order to run or pump one arm quickly to squirt carrot juice) will really tire you out!
Can I start exercising again now?
Exercise & Training Tips

Like Zachary said, definitely start out low impact--best bet may be the recumbant bike. If that's going well, move up to an elliptical or arc trainer before jumping into high impact exercises such as running or step aerobics. If you're still experiencing pain or extreme soreness, talk to your doctor.
PS2 Dancemat & Eyetoy... As good as Wii???

Kelly,

DDR for Wii has been announced, but not dated just yet. Konami (I think that's the company who develops it...) says that it will also include hand movements using the wii remote and nunchuck, I guess perhaps in a drumming sort of way.

Playing DDR with the dancemat can burn some serious calories--if you're doing it right. Several of the games have a workout mode, which will count your calories for you. If you want to use it as a method of exercise, you need to be doing some of the faster songs (usually 150 bpm or more) and going for at least 30 minutes in order to get anything significant out of it. I got a little obsessed with DDR Ultramix for Xbox 2 summers ago and would play for several hours at time, working up a pretty good sweat in the process.

I would not recommend substituting DDR for other forms of exercise such as running, cycling, weight training, etc. unless you are VERY intense about it, but it can certainly be a fun addition or a way to burn some extra calories with your free time

You can always try stepping up your lower body involvement in Wii Sports...i.e., pretend like you are really running in tennis, move your feet instead of just leaning in boxing, taking steps in bowling, etc. Better than nothing

LOL, Neesha, what a great idea! I really did laugh out loud when trying to picture myself doing that, but it sounds so clever I think I'll give it a try. (My motor skills with my left hand are lacking, to say the least, but it should be interesting)
Spinning
Training Routines

If you can't change the saddle, you can always slap a gel seat on top of the saddle that's on there. You can get them for about $10 at sporting goods stores (or even Target or Wal-Mart) and they help TREMENDOUSLY. Although I've done spinning classes so often now that riding even without the gel seat doesn't hurt, I continue to use it just because it's more comfortable They also make some that have some kind of sand-like substance in them, but they don't cushion quite as much.
