Hi Judddd Buds. Wanted to let you all know that I'm still on the program and have finally hit that 40 pound mark. 26 pounds of that is with JUDDDD. That last plateau I was on was a doozy, but it is history. I'm going down again.
I've been staying busy. I still am not caught up with my projects, but will try to get here more often. I miss you guys.
Hope everyone is well and happy. And losing weight, of course. I'm going to skip the other threads for now. All that backlog is pretty intimidating.

I am not going to be posting regularly anymore. I plan to stay on JUDDDD in some form forever, so am not leaving the program. But I am cutting way back on my Internet time. I'm involved in so many sites that I just can't keep up anymore. So I'm cutting back on all of them, not just traineo. I need to get back to some spare time projects that have gone by the wayside because I'm online all the time. I may pop in once a month or so to post my progress.
I wish all of you continued success. Onward and downward, Judddd Budds. It has been a real pleasure meeting all of you.

Hi Susan. I put in the information on the registration screen and hit the send button or whatever they call it and nothing at all happens. It just sits there. Then when I go back the next time and try to sign in with my name and password, it sends me to teh registration page and tells me to register again.

Hi Joy. I was considering this, as suesue said. I haven't ever actually tried it though. The high protein down days work for me, so I've decided it's foolish to mess with success.
If you do try all fruit down days, please let us know how it works for you.

Hi Barbara and Jan. It's nice to have you both join our group.
Beth, I hope things are going well for you today. I'm with the others. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Just give yourself time to heal. I think upping the down day level a bit until you feel better is a great idea.

Maribeth, you'll have to get used to being a role model. I still have a long way to go but people are already commenting and asking me what I'm doing. Sometimes it does irritate me, which is irrational I suppose. I think it depends on who is doing the asking and the circumstances.
Linzi, we all have to find a way to make the diet work for us. I think all of the long timers have personalized it somewhat. If you go out on weekends, you'll need to find a way to work around it. A lot of people do two up days in a row on weekends. Alcohol can really add the calories, so you'll want to save it for up days, that's for sure. Hang in there. You'll get in the rhythm of it all.

Nearly 500 registered is awesome. I think this eating plan is going to be BIG! It would be great if Dr. Johnson would join us and answer questions. Or at least make his own website work. I've gone over there three times and tried to register. Nothing happens.

I honestly plan to be in better shape at 60 than I was at 50.
According to the weight charts I'm supposed to weigh around 100 pounds. I've never been that small in my adult life. I did get down to 109 for about a week once. Anyway, I set my goal at 124, which is the weight that will get my BMI into the "normal" range. I still have to lose 20 pounds to get out of the "obese" range into the "overweight" range. I hate BMI. I think it is overrated as a tool. There are too many factors to take into consideration.
Truthfully, if I can ever hit 140 and stay there, I'll be thrilled. Even if the charts still tell me I'm way too fat.

Congratulations Linzi and Susan. See, it works.
It's slow going for me at the moment. I was down only 0.75 last week. But I did hit a new JUDDDD low - even if it was by just a quarter pound.

Question for my fellow Judddders

Welcome back, Sue. We missed you.
You know, you've hit the nail on the head about the CAD group. I enjoy reading it - never have posted - but what amazes me is that it is on a low carb site and the people doing it gorge on carbs. The ones who seem to have the best luck losing on it eat only one meal a day. But that meal is anything but balanced. Lots of them eat heavy carb meals. But they seem to be losing.
Then there are the diets where the calories/carbs drop so low that they are always doing what they call refeeds. These are little more than gorge fests. Some of the people doing Kimkins regularly "refeed". But it seems to work for them.
And the Eat Fat Get Thin folks sometimes post what they are eating. Again, it seems like more carbs than the actual diet plan calls for. Irecently read the new book by Barry Groves and I think this might be the best way to eat, actually, but that is neither here nor there.
It seems that all of these plans work well for some people and don't work at all for others. Dieting is such a personal thing. I've come to the conclusion that the best diet is the one you can do. I can do JUDDDD.

Great point, Jem. I've noticed that, too. When I was young there wasn't any such thing as a size 2. There were just starting to be a few 6's offered, but the standard size for skinny folks was an 8.

Question about Weight Loss and exercising
Johnson Up Day Down Day Dieters
|
Posted: August 17, 2007
Everyone has their own take on things, that's for sure.
The Groves plan lets you have 60 grams of carbs a day. So it is low carb, but not no carb. He says not to save all of them for one meal, but to spread them out over 3 meals. So that is the complete opposite of the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet. And he says to eat a larger percentage of fat than protein, so that is different than South Beach and many of the low carb, high protein, low fat plans.
It's clear to me that when so may diets are very similar but have little variations, it is best to use the one that suits your lifestyle and works the best for you.
Marie, I love the low carb lifestyle for the very reason you do. No hunger pains all the time. But I do get bored with it sometimes. I'm eating a lot less carbs than I used to, but I still have a treat on up days occassionally. I need to follow your examople, get more strict about the carbs and see if I can lose a bit faster.

Question about Weight Loss and exercising
Johnson Up Day Down Day Dieters
|
Posted: August 15, 2007
This question is addressed in the new book by Barry Groves, the Eat Fat Get Thin guy. Chapter Sixteen: Exercise isn't necessary.
Groves says that in spite of the conventional wisdom to the contrary, exercise will not help you lose weight. He begins the chapter with a quote from Dr. Henry Solomon. You may enjoy exercise; it may be helpful socially; it may make you look and feel better. But all the rest is myth.
The general premise is that exercising for the purpose of burning calories doesn't necessarily case you to burn fat because a reduction in calories is not what causes us to lose weight. You have to eat the correct amount of dietary fat in order to burn fat.
Groves has promoted a high fat, low carb diet for decades, so he is used to flying in the face of conventional wisdom. His new book is called Natural Health & Weight Loss I must say that I nearly didn't buy it, thinking that with JUDDDD I could continue to eat whatever foods I choose. However, I'm really glad I did.
I am staying on JUDDDD, but I am adding that delicious fat back into my diet that I've been afraid of for so many years. And I understand better now why carbs cause me to gain weight and feel bad in general and why saturated fat isn't dangerous at all, but exactly what our bodies need to function properly.
And now I don't feel guilty about not exercising, either!
If you can find a copy of Groves' new book, it's worth your time reading it.

That was worded excellently, suesue. Great observation.
Joy, for many of us JUDDDD has been a true lifestyle change. From what you've said, I have a feeling it will be for you, as well. (((((((Joy))))))) What it has taught me is that I'm stronger than I thought I was. I feel more in control of my life since starting JUDDDD. That's why I'm always so excited to see the successes of our other members. I know it is helping them as much as it is helping me.

Hello Ty. That's a very impressive first week loss. Congratulations! Welcome to the group.
I have taken some pretty lengthy breaks. One for 3 weeks and I just finished a month-long switch to maintenance. But I've lost 22 pounds with JUDDDD since February 19. I had lost 14 pounds on another plan when I switched to JUDDDD.

Hi Linzi. Welcome to JUDDDD. I started out like Heather said - eating anything I wanted on up days. I've started watching the starches and sugars more now, though. But I don't count calories or obsess about what I'm eating on up days.
You'll find a pattern that works well for you. Best of luck with it.

Congratulations ladies.
Leslie, it's nice to hear from you again. I was wondering about you just this weekend.
Susan, if you only weigh once a week, you cuold show a water weight gain that comes right back off. The loss of inches is great and shows that you're making progress.
Kim and Marie, your numbers are just great. Yay!!!!!!!!!
I still have a long way to go and hearing all your success stories keeps me excited. Marie, your low-carb tweak is giving you fantastic results. I'm so happy for you.
