Take It Off Challenge: Wk 3 Weigh In
Biggest Loser Club |
I am stuck at 218. Football season starts tomorrow, and I always lose during the seasons due to all the running, but I have never been below 225 since 1989 ;)

I have a basic salad I have twice a day (lunch and dinner)
2 cups romaine lettuce chopped 1/2 cup raw mushrooms diced 1/2 cup raw onion diced 1/8 cup FF cheddar cheese 1tbsp Kraft's reduced fat French or Italian dressing. Total damage is about 86 Calories (3g Fat, 8g Carbs, 3g Fiber, 7g Protein) I try to drink 1/2 liter of water before eating the salad. |

Denise Austin, turned 50 this year, seems very down to earth yet intense. And for the boys, she has a decent face. ;)

Whiile reading that I thought it would be funnier:
If you don't do what's best for your body, you're the one who comes up with the wide end. Modified by me. Truth: As I hit the post button, Queen's "Fat Bottom Girls" started on the radio.

What's a good weight-loss regime?
Exercise & Training Tips |
I use Cooper norms for sit ups, push ups and the 1.5 mile run because my fitness bonus at work is based on the score in those three categories. (Oh, and the sit ups are hands behind the heads, fingers interlocked, so I have to remember to safeguard my neck)

What's a good weight-loss regime?
Exercise & Training Tips |
Quoting: joelbernardo03 and i almost forgot!! don't base your success on a scale. take body measurements and pics. look at yourself in the mirror. the sooner you change from scale goals to fitness goals, the sooner you'll get the results you want.jennie w mentioned it in another thread. when you're working towards a goal of say 10 pull-ups, 50 push-ups, or 120 crunches, the pounds/kilos will melt off. save yourself the stress. weight itself isn't the best measure of fitness. +1 and a point that cannot be repeated often enough. |

Any ideas for night time eating?
Diet & Nutrition Tips |
Quoting: cci If you can resist, you should really try to avoid eating 3 hours before bedtime because that is when your metabolism starts to slow down in preparation for your body going to sleep. All the research I have read indicates this is a myth. Last study I read is summarized here: Study In conclusion, our findings indicate that eating at night is not associated with increased propensity to gain weight. These results suggest that individuals trying to lose weight should not rely on decreasing evening calorie intake as a primary weight loss strategy but should focus on other strategies such as decreasing overall caloric intake and increasing activity level. Is there more recent research on the subject? |

Any ideas for night time eating?
Diet & Nutrition Tips |
I like something "heavy" in fat/protein and light in carbs if I snack before bed. I usually go with a light yogurt or cheese stick to fill that need.
Carbs, especially simple sugars like in fruit, make it hard for me to get to sleep. If you can do it, power to you. |

Is anyone doing body for life?
Introduce yourself! |
Book by Bill Phillips, has a web site, but I don't recall the url exactly, do a google.
Plan basics, 6 days of low calorie high protein diet (5-6 small meals a day) and working out for 20-45 minutes hard. 7 day rest and anything you want to eat. I took that day 7 to new extremes.

measuring body fat
Off-Topic & General Chat |
Currently I use an Omron Bioimpedence hand held model and a skin fold test. I intend to hit SU in a couple of weeks and get bod podded, which is a body displacement/density test, so that should be the most accurate of all. The Omron puts me at 19% and the skin fold puts me at 14%, so I am curious to see which is more accurate. FWIW, they have both steadily dropped, although when I was at my max weight it had me at 32% on the Omron and 29% on the skin fold, so the skin fold shows fat loss faster than the omron, although the omron shows fat/lean loss at about a 4:1 ratio, which is what I would expect, even weight lifting during the loss. I will post my Bod Pod experience later, $30, 30 minutes, most accurate test that doesn't require submersion.

Not currently, only in the past. My off days were out of control. I needed a 7 day plan
It worked a bit for me, but something just wasn't there. 1lb/week is not bad, especially if you are exercising as much as the plan calls for. That is likely 1.5 to 2 lbs of fat a week, with some of the loss being offset by lean tissue gains.I don't have my logs from doing it anymore, but I seem to recall a very small decrease in weight compared to a weight loss program. |

what happens to muscle when...
Exercise & Training Tips |
Not and expert, but yes. When muscle's grow other than during puberty, you only change the size of the cells, not the number of cells. So as they start to shrink they will just go back to a non-workout state. Don't know if they will get back to skinny, but unless you cut back on calories your muscle would become marbled as the fat cells grew.

Start and Halfway there Pics
Before & After Gallery |
Quoting: joelbernardo03 i think you and jennie and fred and KM, and all the other people who have had really fantastic results, should start a group. you could call it something like "The Horse's Mouth" or more appropriately, "The Lion's Mouth" and use it as a forum where people can ask questions and get advice from people who have been in their shoes and have accomplished what they are hoping to accomplish. Neat idea, but I don't think the fact I have been lazy for the last 15 years and finally got off my a$$ qualifies me to be a guru full of wisdom, more like a lab rat to be studied.

3 1/2 weeks to lose weight and gain form
Exercise & Training Tips |
1) Don't think about long term goals in short term time periods.
2) Mix up resistance training and endurance training 3) Log what you eat and what you do (workout) More on 1, you want something for when you show up in 3 1/2 weeks but that is too short of a time period for major change. But 3 1/2 weeks is fine for a mini-goal of increasing reps, decreasing split times, or losing X number of pounds. Wanting to improve appearance is a long term goal which needs true long term objectives and a long term plan. Sit down, write it out, keep a log of what you do, and the long term plan will be a lot easier. My $0.02 |
