Yeah - I'm not fat anymore!

Today I reached my goal weight of 164 lbs. This gives me a BMI of 24.9 or "not overweight" for maybe the first time in my life! I reset my goal weight to 160 pounds for dailyburn, because (1) I'd like to stay below 164 lbs, (2) I'd like get the "Lose 50 Lbs" everybody wins challenge and (3) I am still looking to get my body fat down to 20%. Life is good! It is a beautiful day so I am going to take a bike ride to CELEBRATE!

I think I owe my success about half to the Fat2Fit podcast which taught me to change my lifestyle instead of dieting, and about half to the dailyburn website and iPhone applications which made tracking my calories and activity fun and easy.

I am determined to prove that I have changed my life style. Not finding any support groups for people who are trying to maintain their fitness, I started one called FIT! on dailyburn. If you are at or near your goal, you are welcome to join us. http://dailyburn.com/groups/2262-FIT- LL&P
What do you do after a very bad week?

Did you have any success before last week? Do you weigh less today than a month ago (or six month ago?) If you do, you are still on a great course. Celebrate your accomplishments and build on them. Don't focus on one bad day or one bad week. Every journey will have some pauses or reverses along the way, but like everyone else has said, don't let the hiccups be a reason to stop the journey.

I didn't think much about NSV's until yesterday. I bought some kitty litter in 35 pound containers. That is about how much I have lost in the past 8 months. Boy, 35 lbs is a lot of extra weight to carry around and it felt good lugging those things to think I wasn't carrying that extra load all of the time! Yeah!
An important question for Fat2Fit Radio listeners.

Winning: How do I Maintain the Gain, err... Loss!

Chance and Jeff,

Thanks for the good advice. I am trying to follow the live like the thin person I want be guidelines, though perhaps I am exercising a little more and eating a bit less than I should be to truly follow this advice.

At any rate, I think I have found my next goal. I want to "The National Weight Control Registry" Their requirement is to 30 or more pounds and keep it off for over a year. It isn't a support group, it is a research group, but it makes for a strong maintenance goal.

BTW: The "The National Weight Control Registry" might be an interesting show topic. Many research papers have been published based on data obtained from this pool of people that have lost weight and successfully kept it off.
It's tough to maintain!

In the last six months, I've lost 30 pounds and have 20 more pounds to go to reach my goal weight. Like many, I have been to my "ideal" weight several times in my life, but have always regained the lost weight - slowly or quickly.

My weight loss motivators this time have been the DailyBurn web site (http://dailyburn.com/locker_room/honda_insight) and their iPhone apps which have made tracking calories fun and easy. And the Fat 2 Fit Radio Show that advocates changing your lifestyle to that of a thin, healthy person rather than dieting.

As my weight goal is in sight, I have begun to consider how to keep the weight off this time. I've searched the DailyBurn and traineo web sites for groups of people at their goal weight supporting each other, but haven't found any active groups. I've even tried to find people that have reached their goal weight and maintained it for more that a few months. This search also been unsuccessful.

It will be a couple more months before I reach my goal, so I have some time to plan what to do. Spend more time looking for successful support groups? Plan on counting every calorie I eat for the rest of my life? Enjoy being thin for a while as the pounds pile back on my body?

At any rate, this is the one "Sustaining Accomplishment" group I have found, so maybe we can get it off of the ground with folks that are willing to support each other and hold each other accountable to STAY thin?

So what should my strategy be? Not an easy question when it is clear that losing weight, hard though it may be, is easier than staying thin!

I use the Daily Burn web site. http://dailyburn.com/recipes/new You can create a recipe You select your ingredients from their huge database and it calculates calories (and many other nutritional values) for each serving. They also have a very good (free) iPhone app for tracking your calories and exercise.

I am amazed at 2776 cal target Ken. You must be really active. I am living on 2100 with lots of cardio and my progress is quite slow (less than a pound a week.) If you make good progress, I may try eating more! You might take a look at dailyburn.com for tracking calories and figuring out calories in recipes. It has a huge food database and it is easy to add new items and recipes. Good luck!
