I'm so sorry I didn't check in last week! I lost 3 pounds last week and now 2 pounds when I stepped on the scale today. Didn't we say Thursday was the day?
So I've lost 5 pounds since we started!
Thanks,
Julia

Hi all,
I'm 49 and need to lose about 75 pounds, a teacher in the great state of Massachusetts. I've done it before many, many times, but obviously always gained it back. So here I go for round 7 or 8, and hopefully can keep it off this time.

Support from partners/loved ones

Just curious if everyone has a loved one/partner that supports you or hinders you. My partner has never had a weight problem in her life, but she's watched me struggle now for 22 years! Recently when she had to watch her cholesterol and couldn't eat her usual hamburgers or ribs, she was horrified at what it felt like not to be able to eat whatever you want. "Welcome to the club I told her," this is a small taste of what it feels like to me every day!
But really she's great and supportive and loves me no matter what I look like, which sometimes isn't the best because I know my weight is not an issue to her except with regard to my health, and how I feel about myself.

Weighing yourself...

When I'm being "good" I weigh myself once a week, in the morning. When I'm bad, I don't weigh myself at all and that's how I fooled myself into thinking I wasn't gaining, gaining, gaining. I finally got up the guts to weigh myself Saturday and now I know the awful truth. So I have 73 pounds to lose.... okay, that's a lot, but at least I know where I'm starting from.

I signed on to the 20 lb challenge and the weigh in is on Thursday so that's when I'll do it.
Mike, I give you a lot of credit for facing the truth. It must have been quite startling to have your doctor not be able to weigh you... Kind of a shock that you needed though as you've done something very positive with it!
I felt the same way about not wanting to weigh myself. For months I've avoided it, even though I could tell by how my clothes fit and how I felt that it was not going to be good.
Saturday I took the plunge and it was almost as bad as I thought, but not quite to the highest point I was at last time. You're right that it helps to have a number to look at so you know where you are starting.
Here's to both of us losing a lot of weight (and everyone else too!)

Hello all,
I'm 49 years old and have had food issues all my life, from anorexia and bulemia in my teens, to binging, and everything in between. To think I thought I was fat when I was 120 at 13! Now I'm nearly twice that weight.
I'm excited to have found traneo and all of you. Today I feel hopeful, and when I was at friends for Easter dinner, I ate reasonably (except for the dessert!) and do not feel sick or overly full at all. Normally I would have gorged myself on everything and kept eating till everything was gone, even all the candy etc. Instead I fixed 2 healthy appetizers, and ate extra vegetables, but limited a lot of other stuff. For once I spent more time talking to people and enjoying the conversation instead of focussing on food.
Cheers all!

I haven't watched any of the shows yet, but am intrigued. I've had weight issues from my teens when I thought I was fat at 120, to then gaining and losing 70 and 80 pounds over and over.
I know how to eat healthy and all the right things to do, but once I get on a roll gaining back weight it's like I can't or won't stop myself till it's too late.
The last few days have been the first days in many, many months that I feel hopeful about being able to do it again, and I'm excited about this site, and the support I can give and get here!

B: I had 3/4 whole grain bagel with low fat cream cheese, some green olives and smoked mackerel.
L: herring pieces, salad a spoonful of hummus and a couple of cookies (I know, bad)
D: 1/4 whole wheat pizza with mushrooms and a lot of roasted broccoli on the side
I did take my dog for a long walk and am feeling the burn right now. Plan to go to sleep early after a couple of more cups of green tea.

Hello,
I'm new to the site, just started listening recently and am enjoying it. I'm a 49 year-old from Massachusetts, who has spent my 20s, 30s, and now 40s yoyoing in insane ways. I have gained and lost enormous amounts of weight so quickly I could probably be in the Guiness Book of World Records. So here I am for the 7th or 8th time about to lose another 80 or 90 pounds, and trying not to think about how many times I have lost this same weight. I'm trying to be positive, because the alternative is too darn grim!
So my starting weight (I just finally had the guts to weigh myself) is 213. I'd like to lose 70 pounds and keep it off.
I downloaded a lot of old podcasts to motivate myself and here I am!
Looking forward to getting and giving support to people who know my experience!

I'm so envious of being able to take off 5-10 pounds in one week. That's what always sets me back is how slowly you lose, even when working out an hour a day. Losing 1 pound a week or 1/2 a pound, makes it feel like forever to take off even 10 pounds, and when you have 80 to lose, one can feel very defeated.
I do like the show though. It's amazing to see them physically transform in front of our eyes in such a short time.
