Well,
this is interesting - my profile is all screwed up. I just entered a new 'goal' and updated my weight.
I am 9lbs heavier than the last time I logged my weight (in 'real' life); yet my profile says I've lost 21 lbs since last logging and that my last logged weight was 187lbs. It's not - my last logged weight was 157 lbs and as I said, I am in fact 9 lbs heavier now, not 21 lbs lighter.
Weird...

Popping in again
Hi fellow Judders - hope you're all well and ready for christmas!
It's been several months since I last posted, and next Februaury will mark the second anniversary of the start of my Judddd journey.
I never did bust my lowest weight yet - BUT, having just looked back over my 'history' I'm quite pleased to see that I have been successful in keeping 23lbs of my total 36lbs loss at bay.
I'm now back in the game and looking forward to another 26lb loss (for now anyway - that may change when I get there). I have set a date of May 31st to meet that goal, so now I've gone public I hope it will keep me accountable.
Onward and downward Judddders; and a very Merry Christmas to you all!

Hi Alasdair,
I haven't had a chance to really 'test' the changes yet - but one thing I would like to see changed is the date shown on the posts - there is no year!
Some of our (Johnson group) threads here on Traineo span more than two years and on looking back through them to catch up, it took me a second to realise that some of them had been made over a year ago and as a result, caused a little confusion.
Thanks

I don't what you ladies weigh or what your up day cals are 'supposed' to be - so you may want to check the Dr's web site for that if you haven't already. Maybe you're entitled to more than you think
I found a very big issue, is alcohol - it's HORRENDOUS in larger quantities. It will gobble up your calorie allowance (beer at 300 a pop, wine at 125 per small glass) and leave you not losing, stagnant, or even gaining!
It's tough, but you have to reduce that to be successful (I had to anyway - I LOVE my wine, but moderation is the key). I'm ok with it now though...lol
Carbs are a huge appetite generator too - you might want to try cutting them a little, and or adding some protein in small amounts when you do eat them, it really does help keep the hunger under better control. Sugar was definitely the 'enemy' for me, too. I've cut that drastically (and I don't miss it much at all now).
As you're so early into it - don't worry too much, unless you're not actually losing. The down day cals only have to be around 500 for it to work in the beginning no matter what your size, and you could probably get away with a little more as well if neccessary. It's not supposed to be hard work at the start - that's the beauty and attraction of this WOE.
Some of us (myself and suesuet to name but two) had a hard time with keeping up day calories under control initially, but we got there in the end. It sort of happened naturally for me (with a little bit of effort on my part - the carbs and sugar thing).
As suesue says - it's a long haul "lifestyle" change, not just a quick fix.
Good luck to you both! (and welcome to the group).

Hello Ladies, I very much concur with all the above!!
....but especially with this from Maribeth:
Quoting: peacefulinhim In time it just becomes a way of life and thoughts of food don't dominate our every waking moment : )
I seem to have reached a 'new place' in my head lately. It's weird. I had followed the plan quite successfully for months, then after my vacation last year I remained in the habit of daily (regular) eating and found it very difficult to get back to the up/down way of life. I would always be saying "I'll start tomorrow, I'll have a really good down day and get back in the game." It just never seemed to happen, and I began to believe that this diet was in fact, going to go the same way as every other - it had just taken a little longer. However; during this time, I was much more aware of food, eating habits/choices, and much better 'behaved' than I would have been in the past, though I did begin back on some of the "not so good" and even junk - I knew it was a slippery slope.
THEN - "the book" arrived in the mail. I read it in less than two days, and suddenly found my enthusiasm re-ignited. I was so impressed by the science and health benefits, that I decided it was time.
I started the next day and haven't looked back. So now; when I'm struggling on a down day, I remind myself that it's the low intake that gets those intangible, invisible, but so very great benefiits and it helps me push through. I also find I've mysteriously developed a new mindset around food - I find it so much easier to pass by the good (translate unhealthy) food now - I really don't want it so much anymore and the craving for the healthier is back. I also seem to have mastered the all-important portion control aspect of it. I'm quite surprised by this (but VERY, VERY happy about it!)
(I just hope it lasts lol)
Onward and DOWNWARD, Budddds!!

Sounds fine to me Sara - though obviously it would depend on your current weight/height etc - you don't want to start out too low....
I'm averaging between 500-800 on my down days depending on my appetite/willpower at the moment, and 1800 (ish) on up days. I seem to be losing quite well on that, so I'm pleased. I've recently got back into Juddding after a break of a few months (but with much better eating habits) and a re-gain of about 14lbs total. I've already sent six of those packing in a just a couple of weeks.
I weigh 161lbs at the moment and am 5'6" tall. Heading for 140lbs then I'll see how I feel about it. I'm one pound away from a total of 30lbs lost since I started Judddding over a year ago - this diet definitely works and is the only one I've ever been successful with long term.
Good Luck and welcome!

Just finished reading my copy after receiving it yersterday!
Very interesting read; especially at the scientific/molecular level, I learnt a lot.
Even more surprised to find he quoted me on TWO pages (142, and 155) (totally wrong and different names to each though - LOL).
Definitely worth the purchase in my opinion.

Helllooooo every (Juddddy) Buddddy,
Great idea for a thread suesue!
I started on Feb 13th 2007. I began at 189lbs and lost a total of 36lbs.
I have since crept up again to the mid 160's (about 10lbs), but have been maintaining that since August of last year. Haven't been seriously Judddding for months, but am really pleased at the way it has changed my thinking about food, and my eating habits for the better. I think these changes will last a lifetime.
I'm now inspired to get back on track now spring is on the way. I think it's time to get back in the saddle and ditch the rest of the flab. I have about 25 pounds still to go to reach my original goal of 140lbs - after that, who knows? Wonder if I can do it?!?!
(Where's Heather and her Bike when you need her?.....lol)

Hello fellow Judddders - old and new. Sorry I haven't been around for a while, I've been trying to reduce computer time as well as dealing with some family troubles - the kind that lead me to the pantry....
It's good to see some of the 'originals' still posting!!
This is a fascinating thread....
I too, have been having trouble lately, too. Fed up with not being able to have what I want, when I want it. I am having a hard time keeping under 700 cals on dd's of late; and an even harder time keeping a lid on up days. I've been feeling rebellious and having 'mini' pig out sessions here and there (still an improvement over the old ones I suppose....lol), then feeling awful afterwards - not just guilty, but physically yukky from the bad food that I have become accustomed to eating SO much less of over the last eight months. It really makes me feel terrible now. Why don't I learn to just quit altogether?
Thankfully my weight hasn't gone up much, I've been maintaining kind of unintentionally for about a month now and am only about two to three pounds above my all time Juddd low, so I can't complain - I just want to continue downwards but can't seem to muster the "won't power" to get on with it!
I guess I'm a bit disappointed that even on this great plan, diet fatigue seems to be raising it's ugly head. However; I hang on to the fact that I'm still 36 pounds lighter and have been doing this for ten months now. But I have to fix it and get back in the game.
What I'm trying to do now, is to constantly remind myself that it isn't just about eating what I want, it's about health. AND, it isn't just about me! I have a family. If I want to be around for my kids in the future, I HAVE to do this. I have to accept that I simply cannot eat just what I want when I want it any longer (I HATE that)! Unless, of course, I'm happy to be huge, unhealthy, and certain to shorten my life span by many years, selfishly leaving my family grieving simply because I like to eat?!?
I have been finding a lot of inspiration in the reality shows on TV concerning weight loss and longevity. Two of my faves are both from the UK called "Change the day you die", and "You are what you eat". They really make me think about what eating too much, and especially about what eating junk does to a body. It really is a killer. If we had a little window through which we could see what's going on inside us, we'd probably all be cured instantly!!
My husband suffered a heart attack eight years ago, having had high blood pressure and raised cholesterol for most of his adult life and not doing enough about it. Consequences! Fortunately he seems to have been granted a second chance and has made what seems to be a full recovery and is likely fitter and healthier now than he's ever been, after juddding along with me.
It still hangs over us though, like a silent black cloud and I find myself wondering if it's just a matter of time. Seeing my eight year old daughter and thirteen year old sons faces as the Ambulance took him away was devastating. We don't ever want to go there again.
We have diabetes/high blood pressure/cholesterol/cancer in both our families. I believe from the way I was feeling before juddd, that I was well on my way to type 2 Diabetes (I am 50% more prone anyway, having had Gestational Diabetes). So - I better buckle down and get back on track!! I'd rather that than be 'wishing' I could turn the clock back after it's too late!
I also wonder if malnutrition is keeping us reaching for food (albeit the wrong kind). The Stomach cries out and tells us it's hungry; we eat something we 'want' in order to satisfy the cry; but it doesn't contain the macro-nutrients the body needs and so the cycle continues.
Like you Minu, I have looked further into CR, and am quite fascinated by it. An interesting comment from a woman practicing it, when asked "How do you survive on so few calories? I'd be starving all the time!", was "You may eat more calories, but you're probably malnourished".
(Sorry for ranting on - wasn't my intent! Hopefully I've talked myself into quitting feeling sorry for myself and just getting on with it...lol)
Onward and downward (please? lol)

Beth and suesue, thanks so much for the support - I know you're right. I am SOOOO much better off than I was seven months ago (except maybe in the wallet from having to buy smaller clothes...lol) suesue - 146?? Wow, I'm soooo jealous! At 149.8 you were at least still in the 140's
Anyway - as a result of my weeks of 'ups and downs' (pardon the pun)......I'm almost afraid to make this announcement...........but here goes!!
 YIPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
1-5-9 this morning!!!! FINALLY!!!
I first saw 163 on the 2nd July. Since then I have been bobbing up and down, getting teasingly close to 160, then boucing upward again. It has really tested my resolve this time.
Off out to dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary this weekend - that'll screw it up for me....lol

Well - coming here for inspiration yesterday must have worked! I got through the rest of that dd yesterday without eating anything more. This morning? Finally - a NEW judddd low - fancy that!! Only .4 of a pound but down, nonetheless And after a rather excessive up day previously (near 3000 cals I reckon).
Now just 1.2 lbs away from a new 'decade' (150's). I wonder how much longer I'll be teetering on the edge of it - it's been weeks already.
Thanks for the encouragement, ladies. You're all great

Thanks guys - you're all so kind and supportive.
Well - I wasn't being totally honest really. I have had a few slip ups on dd's and my up days are sneaking upward - especially yesterday; I went mad like I was trying to defy myself or something - really weird. It was like the dreaded old pre-Judddd days when I would sometimes eat for the sake of it.
I'm maintaining ok - not at my all time low though, unfortunately. I keep bobbing about between 162 and 165, and I'm getting so frustrated that I feel like giving up and eating when I want to. End of down day right now and successful so far (if I can call 40 cals over successful), but I am hungry and want to go eat some more. I have to hang in there (163.2 this morning, so if I do maybe tomorrow will bring good news).
Now I have to go prepare daughters supper I'll take my water with me and hope I can make it through without nibbling!

I'm having trouble too - totally blew a dd the other day by hundreds of Calories. I'm sitting here at 7:30pm, calories all consumed feeling really hungry and wanting to go EAT.
If my weight would just go down a little I wouldn't mind. But it just doesn't want to budge - even when I AM good. I've lost about .2 of a pound in weeks.
Heather is right - just think of all the lives you've changed just by starting this forum! I'm 27 pounds lighter thanks to you! I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have made it this far without you and the wonderful people of that make up this group!
