Burning legs while running
Exercise & Training Tips

I bought my new Brooks shoes from your shop about a month ago. I have been for a couple of 15 minute runs and half hour walks on flat ground with no problems. However, on Sunday I went for a one hour power walk on hilly terrain (which I m not use to but paved footpaths though) and was going fine, except the next day and still now (on Wednesday) I have very sore muscles immediately on the outside of my shin bone on both legs. Is this due to the hilly terrain and that I m not use to it or perhaps something to do with the shoes?
What you are experiencing is very normal (when you aren't used to hills!), as when you land on the heel (when going down hill) and you roll through onto the forefoot, the muscle on the outside of your shin gets over worked. This muscle runs from the outside of your knee to your big toe. If you keep doing hill walks, in time this muscle will strengthen up and the discomfort should subside.
I got this information off some website.. Could this be my case? or do I have Shin Splints, how can you tell the difference?

How can you tell if you have shin splints or sore muscles?
Im confused about shin splints..
I walked/jogged yesterday and today the front of my lower leg, right under my knee is kind of sore...Tomorrow the soreness will be gone.
Question is, is it normal to feel a bit sore in this part of your leg the next day after you have walked/jogged? Or do i have shin splints =\

Thanks for the Sandwich recipe...Hopefully I can use it some time
Thing is I eat at the cafeteria at my job. I'd have to wake up extra early to prepare that kind of sandwich at home everyday.
I'll see if today I ask for it to be made with the whole grain bread with grilled skinless chicken.
I have made progress.. I refuse the chips now =) Next is the soups. (Are soups bad for you?)
I got my running shoes on Saturday from a Running Specialty Store and WOW what a difference.
I started walking/jogging yesterday. Did 4.2 Miles. On mountainess terrain(Road paved, uphill, downhill, uphill again)
PS...A Sandwich isn't a sandwich without the cheese! my opinion..
Thankyou though for your suggestion

So can I eat whatever I want as long as I keep my calories under 2000? Or do I have to bring a calculator with me everywhere accounting calories before I have a meal.
On another note =\. It's really hard turning down my girlfriends prepared dinners. Same thing for my Mothers. How do you guys manage being the only person in a household trying to lose weight. Everyone eating like monsters and yet fit and you holding back not to explode. I blame alcohol for killing my metabolism. I'm 215 and trying to get to 190 180. Hopefully when I start jogging I'll shed some pounds. I'll need all the help in the world.

Is there any website which caches Running Specialty Stores and locates ones around your area? via zipcode or address

Can I eat fruits throughout the rest of the day and be OK?

also,
49. Don’t stretch before a run. Warm up by walking briskly or jogging slowly for several minutes.
I thought it was a must to stretch before running.

What in the world are they trying to say in number 35 and 37?
35. Use Vaseline or BodyGlide wherever things rub. They will help prevent blisters and chafing (guys don’t forget the nipples).
37. Guys: Band-Aids before the long runs. Your nipples will thank you in the shower afterwards.

I jogged/walk yesterday for the first time yesterday for 35 minutes on mountain terrain (paved roads, lot of hills and deers, mustve seen 30 of them).
I felt like I was going to die afterwards cause I really pushed my body while it was in pain but towards the end I jogged off the pain(seemed like it was hurting more when I was walking, dont know if this makes any sense). I also definitely didn't have running shoes on. (Nike Air Force Ones, sole is flat and hard)
Hopefully I didn't damage anything since I'm still feeling a little sore. Question is, is running really good for you over other exercises?
Also to lose weight do I have to eat grass like a horse all day. It seems like we have to give up on all the food we liked to eat =\. No more hamburgers, hotdogs, how in the world do people eat eggs without the yolk... Can i eat anything I want and just keep my daily intake of calories to whats recommended for my weight by traineo and lose weight?

i am 22 now, when i was younger i use to be able to eat like a pig and stay as thin as a needle, as soon as i was introduced to liquor i guess it killed my metabolism. I think the hardest part of starting my diet is to stop drinking. Im a pretty heavy drinker on weekends. No Beers, I like Vodka, Rum, basically anything with a punch. I stay at a steady 215 now. No diet at all, eating like a pig, drinking like a pig. My goal is to be 180. Don't know if curbing what I eat can help me reach this goal without giving up on the alcohol.
