Hi guys,
So, I'm looking for any suggestions or advice about fun ways to keep busy. I go to the gym 5 days a week, working out for about an hour and a half, but even with that, I find I have a lot of time where I am sitting at home, bored. And when I get bored, I just want to eat. My schedule seems so monotonous and the longer it's like that, the harder it is to stay motivated. It's wake up, work, gym, home, and repeat the next day. I thought about joining a recreational soccer team for adults, but the season is ending. I also thought about maybe joining a rec softall team for adults, even though I've never played before.
Any ideas? Any hobbies I can take up? Doesn't even have to be exercise oriented, just something fun that will keep me busy.

dance!
ballroom!
salsa!
swing!
start with lessons.
Group classes are best.
Where I go you don't need a partner.

Not sure what your interests are, but…
Have you tried a meetup? www.meetup.com There may be some meetups in your area that you might be interested in.
What about running, cycling, swim, hiking, etc clubs in your area? It’s a great way to meet people with similar interests and learn about those sports. Most folks are generally very helpful.
Do you like to garden or work in the yard?
Have you tried Geocaching? www.geocaching.com
What kind of interests do you have?

Thanks for all of these. I checked out the meetup site and the geocaching site and both look like tons of fun. I think I will try to find something with those.
As far as interests go, I mean, I'm interested in all kinds of sports but really, I'd like to find something completely new, that I've never before tried. Like I said, the sites you mentioned look really neat. Thanks for the help!!

Hi Michelle,
Do you have community colleges or night classes of some sort in your area? Browse their catalogues to see what kind of short courses you can try. Hopefully they'll have a great range and include classes including cooking, arts, dancing, music etc.
Another idea is to look through childhood photos to trigger your memory. What kinds of things did you like as a kid? Then try out adult versions of that ‘play’. Drawing? Try a creative painting class. Running around or riding your bike? Join a running, hiking or cycling club. Figuring out what’s going on the neighbourhood? Try a journalism/writing class. Dressing up? Try a sewing group (We call them “stitch & b*tch” in Oz). Jumping from great heights? Try skydiving or diving. Performing? Dance/singing classes. Etc....
Hope you get add lots of fun stuff in your life

Although I think getting outside and moving around is the best thing to do, here are some of the things that I do:
Reading – Diet/Nutrition/inspirational/motivational
Collecting – I grew up in the 70s and 80 when Atari was popular. I started collecting stuff for it about 10 years ago. I will visit a lot of thrift stores and flea markets to look for things I don’t have. You see a lot of interesting stuff you haven’t seen in years.
Gardening – Its kind of neat to eat something that you grew.
Yard work –
Movies – Avatar 3D was awesome
Cooking – Ya gotta eat!
Mountain Biking – In Florida its more like trail riding. Its flat as hell here
Gym –
Running –
Listening to Music –
Computers – I build all my own PCs
Puzzles – Sudoku and crosswords. You need to keep your brain fit as well.
Visit Friends – Its good to see other people and share ideas/feelings.
Bowling –
Mini Golf – Kid-like activities are AWESOME!!!!!
Have you thought about a learning to play a musical instrument or trying something like Taekwondo
I am NOT a TV guy. I’m always trying to find something to do. Sometimes I wonder if a have a little ADD going on. I think making plans and having something to look forward to is a good way to keep from being bored.

You guys are amazing. With all of your suggestions I feel a bit ridiculous for not being able to come up with anything on my own.
Tish - you mentioned trying sky diving and that is always something I have been interested in. I think I'm definitely going to do that and
John - the gardening is a great idea. Our front and back yard is really bare and now that I think about it, it would be nice to pretty it up.
Thanks again guys.

I like the "cooking" suggestion!
When you're geocaching you can take along your camera and start taking pictures. Doing photography while I'm hiking gives me a good work out because it gets me squatting, kneeling reaching, bending into awkward positions etc. I take so many pictures I've ended up with some nice ones that I made into blank greeting cards which I boxed up and gave away as gifts last Christmas. They turned out nice.
There's always kayaking which gives you extra exercise not only from the kayaking itself but loading and unloading your gear
Of course you could always have kids, LOL that'll give you LOTS to do!!!

This sounds basic, but I've recently rediscovered bike riding. Haven't really done it since I was a kid. I live in Florida so the nice weather finally started and I can't get enough of riding my bike on the weekends.

I forgot to mention Orienteering - Competions using a map and compass to find your way to pre-designated coordinates. A cross-country race to find the coordinates markers, write down the info from the markers then make it back to start. It's very popular in Europe and people do it in the US too.
