I seem to recall a web site or two being mentioned as a good place to figure how many calories are in home cooked meals. Does anyone suggestions for the best site to use? Thanks

I have used www.fitday.com for 3+ years. I just guesstimate what is in a dish. They have a ton of things in their database and I try to match up what I ate with something similar in the DB. Its not exact, but it gives you an idea. There are several others that are very popular. www.thedailyplate.com and www.calorieking.com are a couple that seem pretty good. Russ and Jeff probably have a exhaustive list of these.

Then there's the USDA site which I've used alot. You can search for specific foods and see their nutrient & calorie contents: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
At this same site you can also choose to search by catagory of nutrients (called "Nutrient lists" on the home page) including searching by amount of calories, protein, iron etc). To directly to the nutrient lists use this link: http://www.ars.usda.gov/Services/docs.htm?docid=18877

And this one which I haven't used much but seems quite good - lots of visual aids here: http://www.nutritiondata.com/

Tish is right about the Spark Recipes. You add your ingredients and then tell how many servings you are going to divide it into and out comes the calories per serving. You could just do it yourself with the links Terry mentioned, but then you couldn't give us a link to your recipe.

I've been using the daily plate on livestrong.com (based on Russell's recomendations in one of the shows). It allows you to do the same thing.

I use www.calorieking.com (it's a paid site, though) - similar to sparkrecipes, you enter total ingredients and # of servings, and then you can save a custom food.
