I have had PCOS for several years now and have been taking medication. Does anyone know what the best nutrition or diet plan is for PCOS? Someone told me low carb diets are the best, but I don't know if that's the best idea. Anyone have any ideas or tips?

I would think a diet targeted against PCOS would focus more on veggies and protein and less on fruit and carbs because of the sugars, but that's only my postulation.

I also have PCOS - was diagnosed about 18 years ago but generally it is a condition that affect about 5% of girls from post puberty onwards. In my case symptoms aren't as apparent when I am skinny.
Insulin resistance, diabetes and obesity are strongly correlated with PCOS so the short answer to the question is low carb diet but making sure your carbs are complex carbs (wholegrains and veggies). |

Thanks everyone! I think I'll try the lean proteins and complex carbs for a month and see if that makes a difference. I appreciate y'all's help!

I've heard good things about the low GL diet for PCOS. Also, high intensity excersize (intervals and such) combined with heavy weights were recommended to my cousin by her doc(who also has PCOS).

You should check out http://www.soulcysters.net
They have LOTS of info to share there. Low Carbing is ok for PCOS. There is little room for "cheating" on a healthy diet. You will gain much faster than you lose. It's a total drag! Demotivating... I really think one of the biggest things to do is to set realisitic goals with PCOS... the hardest part is thinking you can lose like a regular person. It becomes torture to diet under those conditions... Best... |

Fable: Thanks...heavy weights huh? I wonder why. I'll have to throw in some interval training.
CM: Soul Cysters..LOL that's great! Thanks for the info. I know I get demotivated when I feel like I've worked my butt off and the scale doesn't move. But, I have to remind myself that I have to work a little harder than most. |
