I lost my workout buddy, . This means that I am CrossFiting by myself. It would be nice to have some CrossFit buddies on this site so that we could motivate each other, share WODs (Workouts of the Day), times, ideas etc. Anyone interested?
A little info about myself. I am 49, I used to run Ultra Marathons (50 to 100 miles on trails). Injured my knee about 2 years ago (playing flag football - go figure), was told I could never run again. Joined a gym and did whatever else I could that didn't include running. About 15 months ago I met a CrossFit Trainer. He ended up being my coach for about 3 months. Just enough time to work on correct form in the olympic lifts and get a good idea of what CrossFit is all about. I am now able to run again, but I don't do the exteme distances anymore. My goal for this year is to lose about 16 more pounds of fat and to be a "ripped" 50 year old mother of 5.
I have been logging my workouts and times in the TAG-you're it section, but it would be awesome if we had a CrossFit section. Anybody care to join me?

You know crossfit looked really good, and there are a few places in my area that are crossfit centers, and even better they have morning classes!
I'll check out the workout of the day and see if i can incorporate that into my routine. But does that mean i have to fire up my computer before i leave the house?? bummer.
Maybe do it at night, work that into my night routine
Maybe start up a group?

Hi Matt,
No, you don't have to fire up your computer in the morning. I usually find some workout the night before. You can look at my old posts, or any of the cross fit centers. Some of my fav's (outside of crossfit.com) are crossfithb.com, and crossfitsanantonio.com. I do know that crossfit.com posts the next day's workout around 9pm west coast time. Hope to see you here. I already enjoy reading your workouts on the TAG you're it log. You are an inspiration.

Muscle-ups suck.

Seriously.

Pull-ups: easy; dips: easy. That 3 inches of rotation to go from a pullup to a dip? Eff that!

Really though, Crossfit training is awesome, I've tried to incorporate some exercises I've blatantly stolen from those sites you listed into my regular routines, but I'm not sure I'll be going whole hog into Crossfit yet but I'd definitely be interested in following a thread about the various EotDs :)

Oh hell yeah, muscle ups suck. I modify with pullups and dips. Not the same. I still don't have a set of rings. When I had access to rings I was amazed at how push ups, pull ups and dips became so much more difficult. As far as you not going whole hog CrossFit, I think thats fine. Probably the only thing that turns me off to the "mother" CrossFit site are the blogs that say you can't do anything but...., it has to be random...bla bla bla. Some of those guys get so Eff'n crossfit religous. I move stuff around. If my legs are burning from doing 250 air squats the day before, I sure as hell am not going to do another several hundred the next day - don't care how random its supposed to be. Also, you might like crossfitendurance.com (or something like that).

I fell in LOVE with Crossfit when I was introduced last year, but there is no where really locally for me to plug in... I would love to learn more about it though...

Hi Jenny,
The most complicated thing about crossfit are the olympic lifts. If you don't know how to do them, you should find someone who really is an expert at them. Crossfit.com has excellent video clips that lets you see how its done, but you should still have someone correct your form in the beginning. However, even without the olympic lifts, you can still crossfit. I don't work out at a Cross Fit gym, but I've found a very simple gym that is small (which allows me to go from one exercise to the next easily) and has most of the things I need. So here is what you should have at a bare minimum to start. Something where you can do pullups. An assisted pullup machine is nice. Or just a pull up bar where you can stand on a stool and do jumping pullups until you are able to master the "kip". A medicine ball of at least 12 lbs. A jump rope. A row machine is nice but not necessary. A squat rack. Dumbells which you will use for dumbell swings. Floor mats. An area in the gym where you are allowed to do wallball shots with medicine ball. A 17+ inch box or a bench that you are allowed to jump on for box jumps. Something where you can do bodyweight dips. Treadmill. I like to have a spin cycle, but not necessary. With all of these things you should be able to modify just about every workout. I will keep posting my workouts so that you can get the idea. Also, always do a warm up prior to your Workout of the Day. Typical Crossfit warm up is 2-3 rounds of
Samson Stretch
10 airsquats
10 situps
10 pushups
10 supermans or backextensions
10 pullups (in the beginning - assisted or jumping)
10 dips
Another one that I've copied from crossfithb.com is:
2 rounds of
1 Minute single/double unders (jump rope)
30 Second Samson Stretch
12 Shoulder Dislocates
12 Pull Ups
12 Push Ups
12 Squats
12 Dips
You can look up any of these exercises on crossfit.com.
Hope this helps!

@ Matt - have fun. Since you're a guy, you should put some plates on that bar for your push press.

was checking out the crossfit site over the weekend just to get a feel for the exercises, many i've done before, some of the olympic stuff will take some practice, but i'll have to find workaround for some of the exercises, like muscle ups, man it would be nice to be fit enough to do those, but its something to work towards. I've found that i have a lot more energy lately, which i attribute to eating more and exercising with more intensity.
I wanted to change up this week also, less weights, more body weight type stuff, more explosive, really try to melt this fat off before trying to put on any more mass.

Today's WOD will be my 200th since September 18, 2007. Yeah, I had a motivational gap in late 2008, amounting to 2 - 5 WODs a month. Since January 1, 2009, I've been 100%. This'll be 25 on the year.

I work in my house with dumbbells, kettlebells, and at the park on the pullup bar and track.

I'm definitely a CrossFit die hard. Saving up for my Pendlay bar and 310 pounds of bumpers.

Bring it on.

Wow! That's Awesome. I have know idea how many workouts I've done since I started CrossFit over a year ago, but you have me beat this year by 4. No worries though, I'm right behind you. Saw your Kelly workout. I'll play with her tomorrow. I sure hope you keep posting your workouts!
