Just got my new wii/started woking out with it and I am SORE SORE SORE today! Is this typical? It's mostly on my right side (right hand is dominate)- how can I make sure I'm getting a good workout on both and how do I prevent this soreness from happening again?

switch the righthanded/lefthanded option . and there's no way to prevent it. after a while it won't be sore b/c your muscles will be used to the moving around. if it's really bothering you, take some pain relief medicine like advil.

ouch - yeah ! i started wii-boxing about a week ago, mainly to lose weight.
it's by far the best workout from the sports games.
On the third day I was aching all over.
take some ibuprofen and battle through it.... I doesn't hurt half as much now.... you're just using muscles you haven't used for a while.

You really shouldn't just battle through it. Take a day off to recuperate, then continue. You gotta crawl before you can walk... walk before you can run. Don't try and force your body to do something it isn't capable of. And trust me, I'm in pain right now also. I really really wanted to play it today after my run though it yesterday, but i'm giving myself some time. Besides, it'll help build the muscle if you let it heal.

Hi all,
I'm going through the same thing. My coworker asked why I was limping today. She laughed when I responded Wii bowling. She just doesn't understand. I demonstrated the motion, and she said it looked like a pretty nice lunge. Yeah well, try doing that for over an hour straight. That's a lot of lunges! I've got a good knot in a very large muscle.
It's all good; I'm only sore because it's new, that will pass.
Cheers!

We just got our Wii a couple of days ago, and I love the baseball and boxing a little too much. My arms and shoulders are so sore! But I figure that means that I'm actually using the muscles - which is definitely a good thing.
And I'll have to try to lunge some more while bowling!

Yeah this is really bad haha. I've had my wii for a long time, but i haven't been playing it until recently. Now my left arm (my weaker arm) hurts so SO bad. But my right arm is perfectly fine. Can't do anything until it stops hurting.

I played for an hour one day with the baseball and bowling and the next day I was wicked sore. I can't quite figure out the tennis, so I haven't suffered too much because of tennis! I never thought of the bowling being lunges!

I train regularly at a gym, doing plenty of weights and circuit workouts, I still got muscle soreness in my arms and back from punching hard... just like a real boxing workout.
Take it easy, every sport or activity has you working new muscles that need time to recover & adapt.

You should warm-up and strecth your muscles before you workout with the Wii. Then strech again after the work out. I started dong this and don't ache nearly as much. I also have a recover day, so I only work out every other day. Drink plenty of water - I can't tell you how important this is. Boxing is a great workout, I try my best to balance each arm - otheriwse one arm will get toner than the other. Bounce around, by shifting your feet. This way you get a total body work out and you are not just working the arms. It has been amazing - I have lost about 8lbs since I started with the Wii two weeks ago, I have also shifted my diet a bit too, for more healthy foods. If I want something sweet I drink half of a Naked Smoothy- YUMMY - I found out you can find these in about every store!

I had a similar issue with the Wii and I was worried that my right arm would get nice and toned while my left arm stayed completely useless. To combat this, I started to take more advantage of the "dodging" feature in the boxing. I dodge back and forth and wait for my opponent to miss, and when he/she does, then I get a few good punches in. If I'm really working on stretching my upper body back and forth while dodging it actually provides a fairly decent core workout.
And Deidre, I bounce and shift my feet constantly while playing and I agree that its a great idea (aside from the fact that my roommates now think I'm crazy )

I have had my Wii for a while and I never really played the Wii sports game too much until I decided to work out with it. My arms and my lower back hurt from playing bowling and boxing. I tried to do some batting practice today and that even hurts a bit. I think its a day off with some icy hot and crappy cartoons.
good luck!!!

I started playing the tennis today for an hour...OMG I was sweating like crazy. Jonathon had suggested to use your legs as you would if you were really playing tennis - kinda a squat position as you wait for the ball. This really helped to give me more of a work out. I also have done the boxing and I was really sore the next day. This has been the best way to work out I have found! I am so competitive that I find I work out harder trying to beat that gosh darn computer...lol... I am sure I will be sore tomorrow from the tennis...I will keep you posted...

I think the funniest thing about tennis is my mom "tosses the ball" with her other hand before "serving" with the controller. We always laugh at her.
