I am looking at some diet plans to try to broaden my healthy eating recipes and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the paleo diet and if it is a safe and healthy way to eat.

Oy, dont get them started...

I dont know much, and I dont really care to, but there's tons of threads around on it as well as many people here who follow a paleo diet, or a modified version.

I find it to be a safe and healthy was to eat, I've been doing it (technically I'm following a primal diet) for about 3 months now (with a 3 week exception over Christmas break). I think it would be difficult to follow if someone else buys your food or if you have to feed people that don't follow it. If you're looking to lose weight and you follow it quite strictly you should see results fairly quickly. I don't follow it 100%, I still eat cheese and drink beer occasionally, but I don't miss bread at all.

I highly recommend you check out angelo coppola latest in paleo the podcast. This guy has a great way of delivering the material in an informative and entertaining way. he also gives links to blogs and gurus of the paleo way of life.

If you honestly think that not eating grains will damage your body, than you're not ready to try it. But if you are willing to throw caution to the wind and try eating like we did before all this neolithic nonsense then give it a try for a month. I've been toying with it for two years then finally went for it full bore since last fall it's awesome.

You can go ahead and drink our koolaid, it's free of all sugar, flavours and colours...because it's WATER. If you are afraid of drinking plain water, then you are really not ready for paleo.

This is a very misunderstood lifestyle that is not about just eating meat with a side of meat and bacon.

This is about eating lots of vegetables, seeds, fruits, nuts and berries in season, and flesh and organs of animals, and marrow, soup stocks etc etc.

As I've said before "eat the earth, feed it your soles" If you don't know what that means... keep thinking about it. You will.

I've been about 95% Paleo for the last three months. I have yet to see any weight loss but the health benefits have been tremendous.

I was diagnosed with an intolerance to gluten last summer so that led me to this.

Right now, I eat no grains, no dairy, no sugar, no legumes and no processed food. I do cheat a little with a splash of milk in my coffee, a glass of wine here and there and the odd piece of dark chocolate.

My chronic indigestion is gone. I no longer suffer from acid reflux (and thus don't need the medication daily). I sleep better and feel more rested when I wake up. I have much more energy than ever before. My hot flashes are gone. I haven't had any colds etc.

The plan is not for everyone. It takes a long of planning ahead, to have a meal in mind and the ingredients to hand. I rarely eat out since cooking my own food is so much simpler. I pack all my meals to take to work.

I read a book called 'Wheat Belly' which was very interesting and helped my resolve to stay away from grains.

It is very possible to be overfed and malnourished on the diet recommended by the government and most well meaning but ill advised doctors.

That is much less likely to happen on a primal or paleo diet.

Not only is it a safe diet, it is the diet we evolved to eat.
