Karla's old thread for 2011 Goals is a great example of good intentions with poor execution and follow through.
I would like everyone to think, REALLY HARD, about an attainable goal for 2012. Nothing lofty and grand, or a dreamy "I would really like to be ...". NO, NO, NO. I want you to think about what you KNOW you can and WILL achieve within the next year. It can be as simple as "lose one pound and keep it off" or "do 2 pushups" or "increase my 5k time by 1 minute"... whatever it is, I want it to be an improvement that you know is completely realistic. Nothing over the top or grand!! No wishes here, just proclamations that you're going to DO this. I'm going to keep you guys accountable throughout, and in a year, I'm going to show to you guys what a little dedication to a realistic bite-sized goal can net you.
I did not lose nearly 80 lbs by thinking "I'm going to lose 80 lbs in a year" or "I'm going to be hard and ripped and sexy for summer!". I did it by saying to myself "I know I will lose a pound, but I will have 79 more to go, and I can lose every single one of those pounds, one ounce at a time."
If you guys meet your goal before end of year, then we can consider one of two options: maintenance, or a new goal/continued improvement.
Ok, well, nothing massive or out of reach. I want to lose the 'obese' tag once and for all. A lousy 6 kilograms.. 13 pounds. I should be able to do that in a year. Over the course of this year, I've gained and lost A LOT, but I am ending the year 3 kilograms down. It only takes twice as much dedication, and I've been really lacking this year.
I want to be in that bikini. I would be willing this year, except I cant find one I like. I need one that is reasonably supportive, unfortunately nowhere to be found. Straps would be a start.
Not really, it's just vanity and "Oh I wonder where the fat would come off." Science experiment more or less. Just saying that if I weigh less than current weight this time next year, it is also a success.
Very, very realistic, and I think you'll drop 6kg and "reset" for a new goal before the end of the year.
Great Sam! Where are you right now? What is your current weight, how much of a pullup can you do (can you get halfway up? Underhand vs. overhand?) How far can you run nonstop right now? Etc. We need some benchmarks to put the foundations under these proclamations.
Angie- Oh, I hope so. I'm reading back over the last year on traineo now... (I have better things to do, I'm just not doing them) I've been up and down, dedicated for days at a time, then completely undedicated... I've always stuck with traineo, and Im sure that's one of two reasons I've not balooned out. Now, I'm determined though. Enough of this. I'm going to do this.
(Ultimate goal for the year would be a loss of 20 kilograms to get me to 'normal', but I dont want to aim that high, and set myself up for failure)
FYI - every single one of my "lose X by Y date" goals has never been met. Not one single one. But I always kept the goal fresh in my mind, and thus I always kept plodding along (oh so slowly) toward my goal, never giving up or pushing the thought out of my mind. I'm glad you haven't set a huge goal - but even if you don't "meet" your small goal, by always holding yourself accountable (like I did), you are going to make significant progress and be better off at end of year.
I think you guys are a little ambitious! Let's narrow this focus to one or two, three tops. Successful people put laser beam focus on things of high priority, and then get it done. So pick your top 2 or 3 -- maybe just edit your post and put them in bold.
I like this idea Ange and I can't think of a better person to keep us accountable (bar ourselves of course).
1. lose 2lb a month minimum
(I think that is realistic given all diets say 2 lb a week is healthy, I also need to accept I can't loose 8lb a month every month, so 2 lb a month is realistic I think and that will be nearly 2 stone by the end of the year and would actually get me very close to my over all goal)
2. make time of exercise every week.
(I have had the uni excuse and the I'm to busy excuse and I have had enough of the excuses Exercise is a need not a desire and I deserve to do it for me. So no four weeks off because my work load is heavy for a couple of weeks then I forget to get going again)
The only exception to this is if I'm laid up really ill of course health comes first that's what this is all about after all.
Oh and good luck with the pregnancy goals Ladies I think thats a fab goal and will be interested to see some healthy pregnancies progress. (I just ate what ever and was 189lbs when I started ended at 217lbs I didn't even look pregnant and didn't have to buy any maternity wear because everything I had was elasticated.)
