The Ideal Weight Chat Explained

Using an ideal weight chart as you go about your health and fitness goals is one of the best ways to see how well you’re progressing with your program and whether you’re approaching a bodyweight that would be considered healthy for overall health purposes.

An ideal weight chart is often used for medical reasons when physicians are assessing your weight and now you can use it on your own journey as well.

Those who fall in the healthy range on an ideal weight chart are going to find that they feel their best and are at the lowest risk of suffering from disease.

Let’s take a closer look at what the ideal weight chart is and give you everything that you need to know.

How An Ideal Weight Chart Works

First you need to understand how an ideal weight chart works. When using one of these charts, you’re going to look at how tall you are versus how much you weigh to arrive at a number that will then determine whether or not you’re at a healthy weight for yourself.

The ideal weight chart will break down body weight into various different ranges and then set each range to be either underweight, healthy weight, or overweight (or obese).

Once you reference your height against your weight, you can then figure out which range you happen to fall into.

Who An Ideal Weight Chart Is Appropriate For

And ideal weight chart is a good tool for most people to use, however it’s important to note that certain people may not get the most reliable and accurate indication of their true weight from it.

One such group of individuals is high level athletes who have built up a high amount of muscle tissue.

These people will often fall into the overweight category because of the fact that their body mass is higher with this muscle tissue, but the ideal weight chart doesn’t account for this.

These individuals should use these charts with caution and instead consider just having a body fat test taken instead.

The second group of individuals who may want to think twice about using an ideal weight chart is older children and teens. Because of the fact that these individuals will grow and develop at highly different weights if you are a slow bloomer or a late bloomer, you may find yourself coming in at the underweight or overweight category.

Again, this isn’t to be of too great concern. As long as the individual looks healthy and the doctor has shown no concerns for their rate of development, it’s not something to get alarmed at.

It’s always a good idea for slow developing children to be checked out by a physician however just in case there is something at play that could be factoring in to the growth rate that they’re experiencing.

So there you have the main points to note about the ideal weight chart. When used properly on the right group of individuals, these charts are a good way to assess where you stand in terms of maintaining a healthy body weight.
