Am I the only one who suspects that some of the posts made in this section of the fora are meant to promote certain products? Methinks that some of these testimonials are bunk, sirrah!
Please remember: it doesn't matter which diet it is, the way we lose weight is by using up more fuel than we put in ourselves and that the only way we can remove excess fat is by exhaling carbon dioxide.
Estrogenic? Oestrogenic? I understand the o-so-subtle mysogyny in your idea, but I question your science. And don't tell me to 'google' things - the internet is a hive of poor science.
A rallying call to Traineo members who are concerned with ads and misinformation in this area: If you see a post you think is an ad, please reply to it with that one word - 'ad'. Then allow the poster to defend his views. THat way, we can be sure we are not just swallowing crepe.

I am 26. College, stress, 21 meal plan... all caused me to go from 180 to 320. I realize I will probably never be 180 again but I think 250 is a very reasonable goal. My photo is a reminder to me that my body CAN be smaller and I CAN survive without massive amounts of food.

I am a contractor for a monolithic IT firm. This translates into a lot of time spent sitting. I have always been a big guy, but I am tired of being obese so I am going to utilize the power of community to hold my feet to the fire to stay active.

I agree that discretion is warranted ANYWHERE on the 'net. But I also think that it is good to hear what has and has not worked for some people.
Referring someone to Google is not a futile exercise as they are likely to find examples of both pro's and con's (think of diet plans here). There is also the likely hood that the seeker will run into the alternatives.
Yes the web is a hive of poor science. But such dismissal sounds like your throwing the baby out with the bathwater so to speak.
Not trying to be combative, but put forth a reasonable retort.
P.S. For the record I have no affiliation with any diet "anything". Just a lowly B.A. trying to get through the day while eating better and eating less.

The internet is full of good resources. I just think that googling certain phrases will lead you certain places.
Just because you or I are smart enough to spot the good science doesn't mean we should put up with people advertising the bad.
And to paraphrase Kissinger: Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't trying to take your money off you in exchange for rubbish.

Working a lot makes it very easy to come up with excuses as to why I can't work out or eat healthy. It's time to end the excuses, get out there, enjoy some workouts and eat healthy foods. I'm hoping that Traineo can help.

While it's definitely a policy of "Cavaet Emptor" on the internet, there are plenty of reputable sites with useful information. There is certainly a lot of blog and forum spam going on. There is nothing that can replace the good advice of a doctor or nutritionist.

The anti-estrogenic diet guys are trying as hard as they can to peddle their products here. Just have a good understanding that they are trying to make money and in all likeliness isn't an effective diet... (in my opinion)..

I echo Nick's sentiments. I am confident however that as this site matures that we as the community will be able to winnow out the peddlers and pushers.
It is interesting to me that this process of seizing control over my fitness has meant an increased awareness of everything around me. What I am doing, not doing, what I am eating, what I am not eating. For me to reassign that to a formulaic approach just doesn't jive. I am happy that people can find a "Diet System" that works for them. I am just not in that camp I guess.
If you look on the "Man Bitties" thread the community did a pretty good job of calling out someone that was not forth right with how and what they were. This is a good thing.
