Hello

In your articles section, you say caffeine should be kept to a minimum, is it because you are trying to promote a lifestyle-change rather than a short blast style diet change?

Caffeine is a safe, effective compound that not only boosts energy levels, suppresses appetite and is easily attainable, but also boosts the metabolism and has a thermogenic effect. In fact, almost 100% of the non-ephedra OTC (over the counter) fat burners have caffeine in them...

Hi Nick

I do agree with the above although I think moderation is key. It is excellent pre-workout for a kick start and I do find that a cup of coffee between meals stops me snacking.

For many people though, too much caffeine can give a headache plus it can also have an effect on deep sleep if you're slurping coffee the whole day! But of course that depends on the person. I personally prefer to drink regular cups of green tea which has other benefits too

I have been told that is causes an insulin reaction which is why it is best to be avoided, especially if you are possibly insulin resistent.

I have decaf'd a number of times but I must admit the best part of that is the first cup of coffee after being with out for a number of months. Which is probably why I never stay decaf'd for long.

large amounts of caffeine make me crazy. my thought patterns completely shift, and although it can be nice if i'm feeling creative, it generally sucks. the effect it has on my brain chemistry is reason enough for me to not have it.

I am with Cindy. I personally find any benefits it may have on my metabolism is outwayed by the deficits it causes in my thought processing, personality and optimism.

I have been trying a drink product called "Shock" just before a workout and having caffeine no other times. This seems to really boost my energy levels and make the workout better.

I used to be a caffeiene junkie, but I have cut my intake down to one cup of coffee in the morning. I drink water throughout the day. I find that my general energy level is the same but I am not as antsy.

I was the, but stick ephedrine and asprin on top of that... up to a gram of caffeine consistently every day, plus 100mg ephedrine...

not healthy, i got addicted.

Now i kick it down to just 200mg caffein/day, and no ephedrine.

I'm with Nick on this - if caffeine is evil, why are our doctors, scientists and moderators pushing green tea, the unoxidised and 'strongest' version of the tea plant?

While there is as yet no conclusive (no statistically significant) evidence that green tea's anti oxidants do anything for us, there is plenty of evidence that a small amount of caffeine can have all the positive effects Nick lists. Of course, Nick aslo offers a cautionary tale of what happens when too much is involved...

Moderation then. As usual.

True, people with insulin resistance should definitely be careful of their caffeine intake. But, from what I recall, the undesired insulin surge only occurs if:

1) You drink a lot of caffeine in a short amount of time, and
2) You have a lot of carbs within an hour or so after having the caffeine/coffee. Though this may only be true in the case of eating a lot of simple carbs (i.e. donuts, muffins, etc).

Actually, here's a link: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/91/101102.htm ?lastselectedguid=%7B5FE84E90-BC77-4056-A91C-95317 13CA348%7D

I hope this helps.

First of all, I love coffee. I used to drink about 3 cups a day. But since I've popped 210 I seem to be having some problems. Now, sometimes, if I drink two or more cups I get the shakes and cold sweat, and and they don't go away unless I eat some food fairly fast. Am I the only one that experiences this? I depend on coffee every morning!
