My father-in-law has consistantly lost weight on a high protien diet. He says its 1:1 protein and carbs. I dont want to cut out carbs all together or even down quite that far, I was thinking maybe 1:2. I just want to hear what you guys think and if you have any ideas for meal plans.

I'd like to keep it on the low end. I dont want to eat 5 hamburger patties a day. LOL.

A healthy, balanced diet is pretty much evenly split between carbs, protein and fat. Your body needs all three and any diet where you're cutting one or more of those big three out or down too significantly is really doomed to fail. If you're smart about WHERE you get those carbs from (whole wheat, brown rice/quinoa, etc.), you really don't need to cut them out.

If your goal is to lose weight, really just eat smaller portions throughout the day (I split my lunch in half and eat one half at noon and the other half at 2ish) and drink LOTS of water.

I'm eating carbs and losing weight--about 55% of my diet is carbs (high quality, fruits, veggies, legumes). I exercise a lot and eat a primarily vegetarian diet except for eating fish a few daysa week. Unless you plan on eating bacon, cheese and patties the rest of your life, why not just eat a bit of everything -- not refined sugars and crap, but the highest quality fuel for your engine? You didn't put the weight on overnight...and the crappy thing about losing it in a 'crash diet' sort of way--you're gonna gain it back and EVEN MORE. All your starving will be totally not worth it!

As a reader of 'Biochemical Individuality' and 'Metabolic Typing' I am aware that every diet will work for someone, period.

What will work for you is very personal unfortunately and without meeting you and understanding further it is very difficult to say what is right and what is wrong.

True, Dean. The amount of carbs I eat would disgust some people. I need to tone up a bit, but overall it works great. My diet is also pretty low fat, essentially because there's not many fatty foods I enjoy.
