I have gut issues and i am finding when i get hungry i start to get high acidity that gives me stomach pain.

The problem?

Lately i have been waking up in stomach pain with a noisy stomach saying "feed me, feed me , FEEEED MEE"(o.k maybe not in exact words but it sure sounds like that's what it's saying), i know it isn't the best solution but i have been keeping cereal bars beside my bed and when i wake up with this i break one in half and eat the half bar. i then swallow half a bottle of water wait until the pain goes away and go back to sleep. it's not nightly but it happens enough that it's getting irritating.

Any suggestions for what else i can do, food or otherwise?

I can't afford fruit ( fresh fruit is more of a special treat when i can find a sale) but i know cereal bars can't be good for you either.
i am at a loss at what to do cause i don't know what is causing this, i eat a good snack that it shouldn't be happening but i also exercise later at night so that might have something to do with it.

Do you eat before you go to bed? Or do you try to stop eating several hours before bed time? If you aren't already, you could add a nice bed time snack in. Not too big. When I'm training hard, I usually eat about 15 almonds (about 100 Cal) before bed time. It's recovery fuel. And contrary to popular belief - it IS okay to eat before bed - just not ice cream.

instead of the cereal bar to calm the acidity and pain... maybe try some lowfat or skim milk. When my acid reflux kicks in, I take a couple of sips of REALLY cold milk and it usually does the trick.

Like Rachel said, maybe a small snack b4 bed would help...I really like the quaker Mini Rice cakes. I know they are not Very HEALTHY for you, but 7 of them is only 60 calories... Yeah they are empty calories, but when i want something crunchy....They work wonders... I don't even eat the full serving size, just one or two usually does the trick.

I try to go and drink milk but sometimes it's so bad i don't think i could stand there and pour it without the whole thing going all over the place.

I guess i could eat a bedtime snack to keep it from happening i should look into getting some almonds or something that i can just pick from a bag when it's needed.

Thank you for the response.

Instead of a cereal bar try a Balance Bar or a Zone Bar. Not only are they tasty, but they are balanced nutrition with a bit of protein, carbs, and fat with lots of vitamins and minerals. A lot of times in a pinch I eat two of them for lunch.

A cereal bar is pretty much a low fat, high carb snack. It will elevate your blood sugar levels, and depending upon how sensitive you are to carbs, increase your insulin levels which just feeds the hunger cycle. The protein and fat in the Balance or Zone bars lowers the glycemic load; in other words it will hold you over longer for the same amount of calories eaten.

You can pick them up at pretty much any Walmart, Target, K-mart, etc. Most grocery stores also have them, but for a higher price. You can find them in the nutrition bar section.

Hmm, I have the opposite problem. I am never hungry in the morning and have to force myself to eat breakfast so that it kickstarts my metabolism.

Thanks angie i will look into getting them, all i need is half so it settles my stomach so keeping a few in a baggie on my night table might help.

sometimes the only thing that stops it is food of some type. i had the same problem this morning i took antacid, drank water, didn't work and then i had this bar called power bar for breakfast and poof, it was gone within minutes.

i will look for the balance and zone bars though at walmart.

Thank you.
