I was drinking around 5-7 diet cokes a day and was just feeling awful all of the time. I recently trimmed it down to 2-3 per day and added in a ton of water. It's amazing how a simple change can turn things around. I've lost 3 lbs since making the change. I might just have to make this permanent.

Oh, it's not bad on the heartburn either.

I have a red bull 5 mornings a week. I'm cutting those out in a few weeks when I start to dramatically reduce my caffeine intake...hopefully my experience will be similar to yours

Just be careful with the cutting caffeine all at once... or your likely to experience 'withdrawal headaches'

I'm the type of person that has to go all or nothing with stuff like that so one day, I just QUIT drinking Dr. Peppers... I had a headache for a week. So good Luck...and don't get discouraged if you experience the headaches... making a gradual change is definately better if you can do it!

I was in a rut a few years ago drinking maybe....5 20-something oz cups of caffeinated coffees per morning. When I went back to school and didnt have easy access, I stopped drinking coffee, not even considering that I might be addicted.

I couldnt stay awake for a single class. Ever. Regardless of how much sleep I had gotten the night before. Then one day I had a coffee and was completely focused all day. Made me realize how bad the problem had gotten, so I had to gut it out and go coffee-free.

Be careful with caffeine...

I agree, the first day I just stopped cold turkey. I had the hardest time staying awake. The next day I went up to 2, was still tired but not crazy tired. So now I think for a little bit I will just have 2 a day instead of like 6, lol.

I am pretty sure that those diet soda mess with my immune system. Anytime I come close to drinking 2 or more a day I get sick in less than a week.

They make various flavored carbonated bottled waters. They are pretty good. I'm not sure about the artificial sweeteners.

It was good to feel the bubbles like soda but know that there wasn't any evil high fructose corn syrup.

But now I'm pretty content with just water or unsweetened iced tea

If you're craving carbonation...try keeping plain soda water around...add fresh crushed fruit to it.

You'll have to watch your sodium content though.

I gave up soda about 7 or 8 years ago. Regular soda has too much sugar and the artificial sweetner in diet is soooo toxic. Yes it messes with the immune system among other things. If you want to know more, google aspartame or nutrisweet. I've been weening myself off of coffee and that's been harder than when I quit soda. Of course not just any coffee but specificlly Tim Hortons lol. Headaches and low energy are detox symptoms and will occur when you are ridding toxins and poisons from your body. Just hang in there and push past the symptoms. It will be soooo worth it.

lifehacker have an article on soda replacements

http://lifehacker.com/397378/what-are-your-best-al ternatives-to-soda

Personally if its summer, I prefer to buy a bag of lemon's and limes, slice them up and shove them in a tupperware container in the freezer. They keep for ages, and when a handful are dropped into a pint of chilled tap water or carbonated water cause the water to taste absolutely lush and the flavours slowly get stronger the longer you leave it. Just like a good cup of tea
