I just bought this a few days ago. I bought it because it has lots of different tea extracts which I know help a variety of things, including weight loss. My question is is this safe? I am always cautious towards these types of products, where they mix a bunch of things known to aid in weight loss, but it's all natural so can't be too bad (I think). Here is the nutrition facts, and a little excerpt from their website about it:

alright CLA shown limited studies where it actually promotes lean mass, and fat loss. However, it doesn't have enough backing (trust me I asked my food and science technology prof about this). There haven't been enough studies to consider it valid though. If you do take it, from my understanding it does promote increased fat in the liver (I would read national journal of food science or something credible.

A quick google search on cla shows many trials, and supports evidence of weight loss, and cla being present in dairy products. WebMD has a quick summary of CLA.
One group of overweight women lost 9% body fat in one year's time. Not bad, since they didn't change their lifestyle or eating habits.
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition is mentioned in the WebMD article, so I pursued the study and found it. They concluded after a 6-month trial that it does aid in weight loss.
Louisiana State University also did a study
This is an early study done on CLA effects on mice by Louisiana Stat University. They fed several groups of mice CLA for 12 weeks, and each group received different amounts of CLA. Here's what they found after 12 weeks:
Mice that were fed no CLA had 9.9g of body fat
Mice fed 0.25% of CLA as part of their diet had 9.3g of body fat
Mice fed 0.5% of CLA as part of their diet had 7.5g of body fat
Mice fed 1% of CLA as part of their diet had 5.7g of body fat
Conclusion of their research: Supplementing CLA helps reduce body fat, and higher doses of CLA helped reduce more body fat.
I know humans don't have the same composition as rats, but I think this shows that CLA does do something to fat specifically.

again there are not enough studies which is why many pharmacist and food and science technology experts haven't approved of it yet. If your taking it make sure you research the side effects.

It's basically caffeine and tea extracts so I think it's pretty safe, I just don't know how well it goes with my other supplements like protein and beta carotene

I meant the Bodyfortress Super CLA, and apperantly CLA is in milk so I think it's safe.

CLA is present in milk (and red meats), but not in anywhere near the doses you'll find it in supplements. (If I recall, the average American gets around 0.2g per day, whereas the supplements generally provide 3.4g or so.)
I'm not telling you CLA is or isn't effective, or that it is or isn't safe. But when you're evaluating supplements, always look for studies that evaluate the efficacy and potential side effects in humans--not rats, pigs, etc. And always pay attention to the dosage mentioned in the studies.
As expensive as most supplements are, it seems like a poor investment (and potentially risky) unless they're proven safe and effective in humans.

The bottle only cost me $8, and it also has lots of tea extracts and caffeine which are known to aid in fat loss (via speeding up metabolism). I was just curious about the CLA part of the pills.

I have been attempting to use CLA for the last 2 weeks or so. The only problems I have seen are when I first started using it, I got a headache, but that lasted 2 days. Otherwise, I can tell a slight slimming of the stomach. Again I have only been on it for 2 weeks. My plan was a month and I was going to see where I was at. I will keep you updated

I'm taking Tonalin CLA now too, 5 pills because the studies I mentioned said it was effective against the placebo group at 3.5g. I also noticed my stomach shrink when using the Bodyfortress brand. The Tonalin CLA is supposed to be straight CLA, with 750-830mg of CLA.
