If you're only eating 1200, you shouldn't be doing things like heavy weight lifting and hours on the treadmill.

If you're doing light fitness exercising like walking, it's perfectly fine to eat 1200. You just run a risk of eating too little if you restrict your diet too much AND work out. Likewise, you're not going to lose a lot of weight by eating 1700-1800 and ...

Reply by Michelle Muffin

Thanks! So if you're at 1200, bring it up to 1350 for a week, then 1500, etc.

Reply by Michelle Muffin

So I should be eating more, okay. That's actually good, it's hard to eat 1200.

But how much should I eat?
Shouldn't I increase my calories slowly to prevent weight gain and metabolism screw-ups?

Sorry for asking so many questions.

Reply by Shawn W.

1200 IMHO is way to low... your starving your body, probably what your losing weight wise is muscle.

Bump your calories up to 1700-1800 and exercise. You'll eat more, feel fuller, have better nutrition (provided the food is good food and not junk) and be able to support your body's needs.

Try to consume 1 gram of Protein per 1lb so 164 x 1 = 164g of protein. It might take work but that will help you get to that goal of 1700 calories.

You can lose weight by eating this many calories if you have a robust outlet for them.

Reply by Jocelyn Coutant

well, 1200 is probably too little for you. i used to eat between 700-1100 calories for awhile and lost a ton of weight... but then i felt like shit all the time and became annorexic so i started eating again and gained it all back. 1200 is probably a little low for you and even though you might lose weight, you'll be more likely to gain it back because you will have to restrict yourself so much. you're only 15 and you have a long life of eating left. try not to obsess about it too much...

Reply by Monique Kamosi

Just make sure you don't eat less than 1200. Calculators are just a guide. Do what works for you! Everybody is different.
