Hi everyone, I have been really obsessed with my weight problem. I am a 33 year old female and have gained 90lbs which makes the count to 210. I recently took out some of my summer clothes and they don’t fit me anymore!!! This is a real tragedy for me. How can I not wear the ones I adore...moreover the new look is getting me mad (with the comments from my friends). I know quite a few ways to start losing weight…….but I don’t really feel that, with so many people failing using these methods that I will make it through. Does anyone know a proven way to reduce the weight?

Please help me…..this is killing me!!!

The only sure-fire, sensible way to lose and maintain is WORK and that means eating right and getting your sweat on regularly.

Mix up the workouts, keep the calories down and set some clear and do-able goals.

The sooner you start the sooner you'll get the biggest rush of all, PRIDE.

Welcome to traineo and hopefully soon, back to YOU.

in 2006 i lost 2 stone in as many months. i did cardio everyday for the first 6 weeks and ate very healthy foods. after that initial period i started using free weights and was able to run 8 mile circuits ever other day. i need to get back into my regieme but its small steps. keep your carbs very low and use things like brown rice. drink lots of water (at least 2 litres a day) and defo join a gym. speak to your trainer about a program that can work for you...

Don’t be sad. It’s just a common problem and the solution is a simple one. You should not take this as a disease, but rather a challenge that you can and will over come. There are many ways to got about it…….but its just as you said…..the failures are counted more than the success. My friend was in the same situation and she was really frustrated after putting on the weight again. She finally came across a weight loss system that not only gave her a reason to smile but did the magic work that she wanted
to get done. I would advise you to give it a try….as it can be a turning point to your life.

All the Best!!!!

I love when people come on and their first post is to a product.

Honestly, apologies in advance if Maigan becomse a regular contributor here, but ignore that product. There are no miracle products or silver bullets that will cause the fat to melt off; if there was then there wouldn't be so many people with obesity problems.

Minu hit the nail on the head: there are only two ingredients to making it work and making it stick: dedication and hard work. It's not easy and it's going to take time, you have to stick with it regardless of what's going on in your life: if you allow yourself excuses to deviate from the path then you're not really on the path. Just remember that it takes time and you won't see the changes right away... in fact you see yourself so often that you may never actually see the difference from day-to-day unless you're taking a photo log (weekly is a good time frame) since those "micro-changes" will be subtle but I GAURANTEE you'll see it and be amazed if you stick with it that when you look at your starting picture compared to the current photo in a few months.

As far as specific suggestions: eat smart. That doesn't mean cut your calories back by some hard number, but be aware of your calories. It is SIGNIFICANTLY more important to be smart about your calories than to spend time calculating how much you ate and how much you have left in your "calorie allowance" for the day. If you aren't snacking on empty calories (ie. the stuff you eat has stuff your body wants/needs, like protein, carbs (yes carbs) and healthy fats (yes fats), then you won't be hungry as often and that will help curb the calorie intake if that's an issue for you.

Exercise is very important as well; don't just focus on cardio like too many people do. Yes, it's better than doing nothing, but mix in strength training as well, strength training burns calories and helps your body build muscle, which is fats natural predator: muscle in your body consumes fat. As far as cardio, intervals (HIIT especially) are significantly better than low intensity/high duration cardio, so try to work those into your routine. Whatever you decide to do in terms of exercise you absolutely HAVE to stick with it and you HAVE to push yourself. When you get off the treadmill you want to be dripping with sweat. Reracking the weights should always be a lot harder than grabbing them in the first place. If that's not the case, then you aren't pushing hard enough.

One last tip (for this post) is don't focus too much on the number on the scale, unless your scale also reports body fat %... in which case ignore the other numbers and focus on that. Weight can be a very misleading number to base your goals on. Again, being aware of your weight is fine, but your weight WILL fluctuate on a day-to-day basis and some days the needle won't move as much as others, so if you focus on it too hard it can ultimately be discouraging. Body fat % is a MUCH better measure in terms of how you're going to look and how healthy you are: more muscle and less fat is what you want - don't worry about "bulking up too much" as you'd have to put on a significant amount of muscle for that to even be an issue, and women simply don't generate enough testosterone to easily do that.

I share your cynicism Cliff but I might go a step further (apologies in advance if I am wrong) and say that I have a funny feeling that the OP and Maigan may be the same person - or same company at least.

Like someone comes along with this "problem" and then a day later someone else posts a "magic solution"... just seems veeerrrryyyy suspicious to me!

I can only tell what worked for me so far: eating smaller portions more frequently (5 times a day), working out at least 3x1 hrs a week. This is enough for a slow, controlled weight loss.

Be careful about cutting your calorie intake drastically: you will lose weight very fast - and gain it back even faster. If you lose more than 3-4lbs a week for more than a month, you probably have to slow down.

Whatever you do for weight loss, make it sustainable on the long term. Temporary efforts lead to temporary changes.

As Clifford wrote, don't stick to cardio only, do weight training, too.

If you can order your meals from a diet food delivery service, that can be great help.

One more thing: I'm not sure what works the best for you, but I'd say you don't have to be *very* hard to yourself (a little, yes . Just stay focused. A nice cake or a pizza every once in a while won't hurt that much, if you know you can't have it every day. Life should be fun, after all. Just stay focused and stick to your goals.

Sorry, I cut it off!! BUT! My trainer at my gym turned me onto Advocare Products. It isn't a magic bullet, but a supplement used by many athletes. I have tried weight loss in the past, only to gain it back quickly as soon as I went back to old habits. But with diet, tons of exercise, along with the help from Advocare, I have lost 17 lbs, with 30 to go. It has helped with my cravings and hunger. I am a huge believer in anything that will help!!

Advocare doesn't have any banned products. That's why the products are used by many college sports programs.

before being sarcastic, you should check it out! I'm only telling you what has helped me.

Keep one thing in mind: losing 90 lbs isn't going to be a quick and easy process. You didn't gain 90 lbs overnight, so don't expect to lose it all in 3 months. The hardest part will be the length of your journey. Even the most avid dieters will lose steam about 3-4 months into it, and usually give up. It will be a major lifestyle change, and you have to stick with it for any amount of success. You will have to completely transform your way of thinking about food in order to succeed.

If you don't want to put forth months and months of effort, you will NEVER EVER meet your goal weight. And if you do get to your goal weight, rest assured you won't stay there for long if you revert back to your old eating habits.

Keep that in mind every time you think about having a cheat meal, or skip out on exercise.

So, having said all of that, spend the next few week discovering an enoyable, sustainable exercise program, because you're going to need to commit to excercise for a very long time. Don't join a gym, kill yourself for an hour, and never go back! Light exercise is better than no exercise at all. True, for maximum benefits work out as hard as you can, but make sure you're having a good time while doing it. If it's not fun to you, it won't last.

Good luck!

Yup, it takes some MAJOR focus and a complete re-programming of ALL foody habits.

I've been maintaining my losses, (just about 60 lbs), for over a year now and it's only due to sticking with the workouts and eating as cleanly as possible as often as possible.

Oh, I did. Seems your first post on the site is for a proprietary dietary supplement, the sales of which you benefit from. Shame on you.

I lost 75lbs and 15% body fat in less than 5 months thanks to an amazing, LIFE CHANGING product called "Hard work and dedication". Unfortunately it doesn't come in a pill form, but on the plus side it's free.

Seriously, I don't take any supplements or use any products other than an occasional scoop of protein powder in a smoothie on low protein days and you can't really argue with my results. Granted, my level of intensity is higher than most folks, but that doesn't mean that everyone can't do it. You don't need any products or programs to do it and anything you do use to "curb your appetite and cravings" is ultimately just a crutch.

Until people in a community know who you are, you're just another ad-bot trying to sell a product on the internet. It wouldn't surprise me if your next post was advocating male-enhancement pills that your husband takes and has made all the difference in your marriage while asking us to give our bank account information to your friend in South Africa because he's stumbled across several million dollars that he needs to distribute before the government takes it away. All legit of course.

Look, I was only letting you know what has worked for me. I only signed up to sell the stuff because it has helped me. I still have to work my butt off at the gym and make healthy food choices. I have struggled with my weight for years and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2 years ago, therefore, struggle with fatigue. I wanted a "nutritional" supplement for the things I was lacking in my diet. I already ate the recommended amout of fruits and veggies, and have seen a dietician, I just needed something to get things going after many years of killing my metabolism.

If anyone is truly interested in my story, I have a blog of my progress, along with my husband's. He has lost over 30 lbs, and recently ran a mini marathon.

I'll chime in.

Minu Said it, Dave Echoed it, Clint agree's, and the list continues...

Don't do 'fad' diets. Don't do 'magic' pills. Don't spend TONS of money on something that will 'shed' the pounds.

Here are some SIMPLE steps to lose weight.

1. Journal EVERYTHING you eat for at least a week (really you should do this for a month if just starting). After a week you'll be amazed if you do it right at what your eating. Put down portion sizes. Put down Soda's, sugar, etc.
2. Exercise. Start moving around. Walk, run, jog, bike, swim, lift weights, have sex, something. Get active. Make a healthy choice and start moving. I workout with weights 4 days a week usually. But since work is killing my workout schedule I brought weights to work and do it in my office when i can't get out. SOME is better than NONE. Go for a walk at night. The key here is to start this process.
3. Make life changes for the better. You've seen what you eat, your starting to exercise, now really go for it. Cut out the junk food and the excess calories (soda/special water.. vitamin water = 60+ calories of junk). Eat some good food, try to stay between 1800-2000 calories. Bust your rear. Believe in yourself. Get some people (like what this website is about) and have them help motivate you! Not to steal from Nike, but 'Just do it'.

Step 4 Be amazed at the results after 3, 6, 9, 12 months. With 90lbs its going to take time but you'll be amazed at what will happen with hard work. Then Reset your goals, change up your program and go from there.

And if you still feel the need to give money away for something, I can sell you some air that your breathing at a good rate. Just PM me and i'll shoot you my paypal address. Delivery of said air is immediate* (*Some restrictions apply, not all air may be good or high quality air. If said person is in an airless environment we will not be liable for providing air in such an environment. No refunds given regardless of if air you receive is air that you like)

Excellent suggestion. The basics really are simple... burn more calories than you take in.

I'm going to add to Minu's post though. Make all your changes to eating and exercise into HABITS. Permanent ones. Things you just do. And don't stop after you've lost the weight and hit your goal. It's not that eating well and exercising regularly don't work, they do, but people set a goal, get there and stop the good habits that got them there. Then they wonder why the weight comes back!
