Hi Rachel.

First of all, don't think of it as a diet, but as your "new healthy eating regime". Meat is okay, only veggies will tell you otherwise, so try to include some protein in your intake. I tend to go for a split of 55% carbs (veg, bread, brown rice etc), 35% protein (meat, poultry, fish etc) and 10% good fats per day.

The mayo you put on your sandwich is not really a good idea, too high in saturated fat and very high in calories, even the low fat version. Try a very low fat/calorie dressing instead. Mayo is a definite No-No, to me anyway. Gatorade is also high in calories (sugar/glucose) as it is used to replenish lost minerals and natural body sugars, try to stick to water, or at least a sugar free squash (don't know what you call it in the States). Pure water is soooooooo good for the body.

Unfortunately, the stomach fat and "lovehandles" are where most people lose the fat last. But don't give up!!!!!! Set your goal, which you already have, and stick to it. You will achieve it. If you feel, at anytime, like you wanna give up, come back on this forum and you will get loads of motivation and reassurance. Think positive. You CAN do it!

OK, first off, don't stress too much. Try to eat whole foods as opposed to highly processed foods. WHO says you aren't supposed to eat meat? Losing weight/eating healthy is a lifestyle change... if you like meat, there's really no reason not to eat it as part of a healthy lifestyle. Eat the best quality you can afford. Grass finished beef or bison for instance. Free range chicken for another. Wild caught salmon and other fish. And if you can't afford or find those, just do the best you can.

Grilled chicken and roast beef are A-OK. On the wheat bread, check the label to be sure it really is made from whole wheat.

On the mayo... well, there's a lot of fat in that, and usually not the healthiest fat profile either, so maybe consider dressing with mustard or perhaps a little extra virgin olive oil and vinegar. But truly, even mayo in moderation with attention to serving size will be fine.

I would watch the Gatorade... you're drinking straight sugar there. Now, after a hard workout, you may need some sugar/protein, but you might do better with a specially formulated post workout drink.

it's actually awesome, tastes the same as the normal (to me)...

Would also consider making small changes frequently.... Start replacing the mayo w/ light, switch out white breads or pastas for whole grain bread, increase veggies and fruit...

Head over to a website like fitday.com and start tracking everything you eat, and start aiming for standard macronutrient profile - the most prolific recommendation seems to be 40/30/30, 40% cal from carbs, 30% from protein and 30% from good fat.

meat is great, don't let anyone tell ya different!

Kraft makes a fat-free mayo, it only has 10 calories per tablespoon and I can't tell the difference in many foods. It certainly makes tuna a whole-lot creamier without the guilt.

On the topic of Gatorade, I tried the "G2" which is low-cal Gatorade the other day and I actually liked it better than the real deal (not as sickeningly sweet). It's not a great of a choice as water but it would definitely be a step in the right direction if you can't kick the G'ade all together.

I like the purple G2 but not the red. The red leaves a really weird after-taste. Blick!
