i know that everyone is built differently and carry weight at different areas of the body.
i am at 116lbs yet have a 28-inch waistline.
i just want to know about OTHER people:
what are you waistlines and how much do you weigh?
i know it's not a matter of weight that determines the waistline as weight constitutes fat and muscle weight.
BUT FOR GENERALITIES SAKE, please reply with your weights and waistlines-- THANK YOU!
ps. i just came from a forum and read that a 5'5 woman (which is also my height) who weighs 125lbs has a 26-inch waistline.
so yes, i'm very much concerned.
(but i am also beginning a new healthier diet and am beginning to exercise on a daily basis.)

Sweets did me in.
Evil little tarts aren't they?
My goal? Become fit and healthy. No white flour, no white sugar, and to focus more on health than "zomg it's so yummy though!". Change my body, change my mind.

Hi Angel, ahhh I totally understand your question, in fact I was going to ask it myself...wait I think I already did a week ago. lol. But onto my answer.
I'm 145-ish with a 28 1/2 inch waist and I'm 5'5. I know that when I'm around 135 I have a 27 to 27 1/2 in ch waist. But that was about two-almost three years ago. I think that it has to do more with the way a person is built.

It has a lot to do with how a person is built. Some people are just more curvy than others. I have a 30" waist @ 183 lbs (5'8" tall). At my leanest, 135 lbs, ~19% body fat, I had a 24" waist.

Quoting: nutmegs23 and how they're measuring
Yep! You want the tape measure to be snug, but not compress the skin. A good rule of thumb is that it's snug enough to touch all the way around, but you can still easily spin it around your body.
Your posture has a lot to do with it also. When I take my measurements, it's the most consistent if I stand up very straight and tall and clench my stomach muscles (Not the same as sucking in!). C

I think I measure my waist differently than you guys. I measure around my belly button. Are you measuring around the smallest part of the waist like where it curves in?
Anyways, I'm 5'9", I weigh 177 lbs, and my waist (around the belly button) is 36.5".

Yep, the natural waistline is what I'm talking about. I call the belly measurement my abdomen measurement. My abdomen right now is around 34-35, and my hips around 44". I'm such a curvy freak!

well, by waistline, i mean running the tape around the waist and overlapping the part where your belly button is-- that's the waistline, right?

No, that's your abdomen. Your waist is the smallest part of your torso, aka natural waist - back in the day when women actually wore pants up that high. It's generally ever so slightly above the belly button, but if you're long waisted it could be a couple of inches higher!

Maybe this will help:
Taking your measurements is an excellent way to keep track of your changing shape as you get fit. When you burn fat and increase your muscle mass, you may weigh a bit more even though your body is getting tighter and smaller. Here is how you take 10 different body measurements. Remember to keep your muscles relaxed while you're measuring.
1. Bust: Don't squish yourself -- measure all the way around your bust and back right at your nipple line, and make sure the tape measure is not lower.
2. Chest: Measure under your breasts but as high up as you can go, keeping the tape measure parallel to this line when you reach it around your back.
3. Waist: Measure wherever it is the smallest (if you have "no waist" go around yourself right at the navel line).
4. Hips: Measure at the very biggest part -- even if that is so low that you are almost on the top of your thighs.
5. Midway: Measure midway between the very biggest part of your hips and your waist.
6. Thighs: Measure wherever they are the biggest.
7. Knees: Measure right above the knee.
8. Calves: Measure wherever they are the biggest.
9. Upper arm: Measure wherever they are biggest above your elbows.
10. Forearms: Measure wherever they are biggest below your elbows.

Hi, my name's Ali, and I'm 16. I've been on diets since I was an obese 9 year old, with an underactive thyroid (presumed - too young to be tested on the NHS) and IBS. Since I turned 13, I've been slowly, but surely, upping my exercise, and cutting the rubbish out of my diet. My BMI has dropped 9 points, from 30 to 21, mainly due to weight loss, but helped along by a 2 inch growth spurt. I would now like to lose a further stone and a bit before summer 2008, and tone up a bit as well.

I'm 5'8, and around the 10 stone mark (140lbs or 64kg) with a BF% of 16, and my waist is 25.5 inches... When I was 11 stone (154lbs) with a BF% of 25, my waist measured around 30 inches.
It all depends on how you are built, etc, but a doctor once told me that over 30 inches is, in general, where you are worsening your chances of developing diabetes and other such diseases. Also, WHR (waist to hip ratio) is important too - if your WHR is under .85, you have a lower chance of developing such diseases.

My motivation disappeared for awhile, and quite frankly it's not all that visible at the moment. Sometimes ya just gotta do it anyway, though. I tried setting small attainable goals for myself, but then I got lazy and the "next week syndrome" kicked in. Now I'm giving myself something HARD to do...lose 11 pounds in 30 days. If ONLY I had Bob or Jillian here to kick my butt!!!!

I have NO idea what my measurements are. I just no my jeans and pants are a bit tight these days. (Hopefully not for long, though.)

I am 5'7 and about 149 pounds and my waist is 28.5. But my body generally stores fat around my butt & thighs, whereas some people I know are much smaller than me (like 2 dress sizes smaller!) with a waist the same as mine. It totally depends on your body shape and where you store your fat. Generally speaking though if you have over a 35 inch waist your rist of diabetes and other weight related disorders greatly increases.
