Something Dark Side
I've been interested in losing weight and gaining muscle here at traineo since late 2007. Its not until mid 2008 that i've actually started my training routine 5 days a week. Trying to get to under 19% body fat.

I generally eat pasta because theres nothing else at home.
Its the pasta that comes in packets and you put in the microwave or stove top and cook for a certain amount of minutes.
I went to the website and here's the nutruition info
http://www.san-remo.com.au/health_nutrition.asp
Moreover, here is the products I actually eat: http://www.san-remo.com.au/lapasta.asp
Has anyone tried these or heard that they are bad for you if you're trying to lose a little bit of weight?
Any comments about this would be good

P.S ... on the second link, I'm currently eating the cabonara pictured one which is supposed to serve 4 people, but they're small portions, so technically its enough to fill a bowel.

After 2 years of crappy meds that bloated me up 70 pounds and mounds of stress... I am ready to go back to my slim self again! Plus, I want to look good in a bathing suit for my 3 year anniversary vacation in florida :-)

lol no, that's not hat I meant Stina. As in you know if you brought a big packet of pasta sometimes it won't fit in a single bowel and has to be put in several others. That's what I meant by the 4 servings. Usually if I said "This pasta is meant for 4 people" you'd think it's alot. But it only fits in a bowl enough for one person :P

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

Hey Stitch
If I am after a super fast dinner...I will make these but I bulk them up with a ton of veg and some grilled chicken breasts I prefer making things fresh and from 'scratch'...I try to avoid all the chemicals and additives if I can but like I said, if I am pressed for time I use them.
I agree the serves are miniscule...but they are just sides (MEANT to be!)

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

looking at 300+ calories per serving, X 4 servings, around 1400 cal for the bowl you eat... that's not so good....

Yeah, that's a lot of calories for one meal. If you eat one serving, it's probably not so bad.

1518 kJ = 363 Calories, which is in a 100g serving of that pasta.
However, this DailyPlate listing shows a serving is only 30g (dry). So 100g is actually 3.33 servings.
What is your serving size exactly?
I also disagree with San Remo's stance that pasta = low-fat/no cholesterol and is therefore healthy. Pasta is a processed food / refined carbs with very few nutrients for the calories you consume.
This is a good discussion thread between vegetarians about how vegetarians get fat on pasta, bread, and oil/cheese/dairy.
Disclaimer: I eat white rice and pasta. It's not the worst food I can (and do) eat, but it's not the best.

I only eat pasta, (even whole grain), occasionally now, (dinner parties, fine Italian rests, for eg). I've switched to using legumes like white beans in place of pasta, as it's just a win-win-win in terms of nutrients.

It looks like eating one packet of one of these is actually not bad at all, but eating four packets at once is a lot of calories for a meal. More than half of your daily calories are in that 4 packet bowl, so hopefully when you eat that 4 packet bowl hopefully you aren't eating much else the rest of the day. I have learned that serving sizes on packages hardly ever equal what I think a serving size should be.

Quoting: Minu I JUST LOVE DAMN BEANS.
To head off the inevitable comments on gassiness, Behold the power of BEANO!
You need to eat a certain amount of food to feel satisfied, regardless of the silly and misleading serving size they publish. When I buy a 7oz bag of Herr's Hot Cheese Curls, I eat the whole bag. Only 150 Calories per 1oz serving, but that's 1,050 Calories total (not counting snarfing down the powdery stuff at the bottom of the bag).
So my advice is to count the total calories of what you actually eat, regardless of serving size. If you eat a whole bag of something with over 700 Calories and it's mostly refined carbs or fat, then it's unhealthy.

I think that the more one eats beans and legumes etc., the less tooty they become--as opposed to those who rarely have beans, then go nuts with a big serving of say Mehican food, for eg.

Guys one packet is around 120 grams. I can just make it out on the front cover (cant be bothered right now to go inside the main house and get one out).
So its around 350 calories for all 4 servings, and most of the time I dont eat all of it. Probebly 3/4 of it.
I dunno what else to have it with, most people say tuna is good with it but I dont eat fish, seafood or mushrooms, or eggs . I gotta find a quick and easy recpie to stick it all with. Cant cook rice....? But I should try oneday.
