Does anyone know how to get ahold of a nutritionist? Do I just google nutritionist or something? I think I need to sit down with one and make a plan for my eating. Perhaps even find a trainer and/or weight loss support group to go to meetings. I am just not doing well at all. I keep starting over and over and am losing the same 3 lbs each week. I start at 263 lbs, get down to 260 lbs by the end of the week, then after the weekend weigh in at 263 lbs again. This has happened like 4 weeks in a row. I need to find a new level of effort and motivation. All I know is that this sucks...

You can get a referral from your family doctor or just go through your local hospital.

If you have health insurance, contact their customer line. Many of the plans have weight loss programs that include visits to RDs. Otherwise, I'd ask your doctor for a referral (or call the local hospital) rather than googling because... well.. you never know what's out there.

I know of some good nutritionists. What are your specific goals? Is it mainly to lose weight?

If you want me to introduce you to them then let me know and I'll see what I can do. I have no idea what their rates are though so you'd have to work that out between yourselves.

If you want a single one off cost and the knowledge to know exactly what to eat and why, then I can highly recommend the BFFM program - it's what I have been doing for the last 6 weeks and the results have been fantastic, much better than when I was trying to work it out myself before hand. Now I know a fair bit about macronutritional ratios and can tailor my diet very quicly and easily depending on whats going on with my body week by week. It's a very good investment and will give you solid results.

I think what you really need is a motivator. Someone to constantly remind you of your goals and what you need to reach them. Someone who'll encourage you and push you farther than you thought you could go.

If a nutritionist or trainer can do that, then well and good -- but you might find that some view motivation as a secondary aspect of their service. Others may not even consider it a part of their service at all.

In short, you might not get what you want out of it.

Information and tools abound. Good motivators are hard to find.

Seeing an RD is a great way to go. Just make sure its an RD and not a nutritionist. RD's are credentialed, go through schooling, training, and have to pass a national board exam. Any joe shmoe on the street can call themselves a nutritionist so there's a lot of crazies out there!
Go to [url=www.eatright.org] and you can locate a dietitian in your area. They can help you with meal planning and guide you in changing your lifestyle to lose weight and maintain that loss. Make weekly appointments to keep you in check. And that first few pounds that you take off and keep off might just be your perfect motivation!
Good luck!

Do you know if you have to be overweight to see an RD or a nutritionist?

I love how a cocker spaniel managed to become a certified nutritionist!

Heheh... Well, Cockers ARE a bit more discerning about food choices than Labs at least.

I wonder how he feels about foie gras?

DEFINITELY NOT!! Anyone can see an RD. They can help you with meal planning, grocery shopping tips, etc. They can help you have a well-balanced diet and meet your personal diet goals. And I don't even mean "diet" in terms of weight loss, I mean it in terms of your everyday lifestyle and eating patterns/habits.
Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have

Not sure what your eating habits are, but if they're not that great, I recommend Body for Life by Bill Phillips. Great book for those starting out and needing some direction in nutrition and eating habits. They have a great workout if you need help there as well. I recommend the nutrition part to a lot of my personal training clients. Just a thought before you go spend money on a nutritionist.

Maybe eating dog food and chasing squirrels will become the newest diet fad!
