The rest of Sat:
Dinner: 1 word: buffet *dun dun duuuuuunnnnnnnn* It was not pretty. According to Traineo I did burn over 1500 Cal in my tri practice that morning so my hunger was well deserved
Sun:
Breakfast: whole wheat bagel with crunchy honey peanut butter (400 Cal)
Lunch: mother-in-law's b-day lunch at Cheesecake Factory. Again *dun dun duuuuuuunnnnnn* I had an egg roll from the appetizer, probably 20 french fries from my husband's plate as I waited for them to bring my food (they screwed up my order and it took an extra 20 minutes to get my food), so by that time I was starving and inhaled my plate of pasta (at least it was lunch sized portion...). Then *sigh* I split a piece of oreo cheese cake with hubby. It was so good. Oh, and they still got my order wrong even after the 20 minute delay. It was a delicious meal and wonderful, but waaaay too many calories. I've decided not to beat myself up over. Even though I still overeat on weekends, I am doing better than before I started trying to be healthy so I'm trying to focus on the positives.
Dinner: handful of peanuts and whole wheat supreme pizza hot pocket (300 Cal)
Today:
Breakfast: Kashi blueberry waffles with lite cool whip and apple juice (400 Cal)
Snack: 7 cheese cubes (100)
Lunch: Zalad from Zaxby's!! It was the blue zalad. Lettuce, carrots, tomato, grilled chicken rolled in spicy wing sauce, blue cheese crumbles, (no fried onions or Texas toast for me!) with lite vinaigrette dressing. Delicious!!! (400 Cal - it's amazing what you can do if you get a little creative at these places)

Words to live by: "Now's the time to grab the steering wheel of your life. Delve deep within yourself and take responsibility for your health and behavior. Ask yourself hard questions and face the truth of what needs to be done. Weight loss is not always easy or fair but you are the only one that can lose weight for you. Take a turn for the better!"
Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

I was a PMSSY EATING MACHINE today and I love it, not the PMSSY-ness, but the chowin' DOWN. A total of 2500 healthy cals., minus the insane amount of fiber and my workout. All good, and I am so satiated.
Go for a lil walky Senior King... I'm thinking about going for one myself.

I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

I love to eat. Carbs is my weakness link that I always lose control in front of it.
I started running for fitness in 2007. Ever since I finished the 1st marathon (San Diego RnR 2007), I am addicted to running.
I started traineoing in Nov 2007. I have reached my goal weight in Jun 08 already. But, now, I don't care much about my weight. I care about it only if it affects my running performance.

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

Samantha, can you really drink 1 lt of water in 1 time?
Racheal, 2 turkey burger = only 500 cal? That's great. What is Zaxby's Zalad?
Pre-WO (light WO): peanut butter 2tsp, banana 1/2
Post-WO+B: deli ham 1, banana 1/2
S:Kashi granola bar 1, deli ham 1
L: Panera Bread pick2 combo(Asian sesame chicken salad, black bean soup), decaf coffee w/skim milk&splender 1, tomato basil bread sample bite
S: deli ham 1, decaf coffee w/skim milk&splender 1 , apple 1
Pre-WO(heavy WO)+half D: hard boiled egg 1, large bellpepper 1, raw oatmeal+applesauce 1/2 cup
Post-WO+half D: demi ham 2, almond 1 oz, pineapple 120g
~1500 calories
I gave myself grade B+ today. I have high quality protein in each meal. Dinner has been divided into 2 so that I could have smaller portion in each meal. But, I still could not ignore the sample bread in Panera Bread yet. It was free and yummy stuffs. Hard to resist.
And, I have just found out that splender is a bad thing. My bc instructor said you rather have sugar instead. I will not have it anymore from now on.

Glovia, do yourself a favor and skip the sugar and go for beautiful honey instead, (especially when sweetening drinks that are consumed solo), as it's a much slower releasing sugar than table sugar.
Check out "Steviva" and "Xylitol" too, both more natural alternatives that have been used for ages in different parts of the world, unlike Splenda and Aspartame, etc...

Quoting: malibublue Racheal, 2 turkey burger = only 500 cal? That's great.
They were just turkey burgers - no buns or mayo. The package says 160 Cal per burger and we cooked them on the George Foreman which takes out a LOT of fat so I estimated 250 Cal for both of them. Have you ever used a GF? The fat in the little collector thing is so gross after you finish cooking just a couple of burgers.
Quoting: malibublue What is Zaxby's Zalad?
It's the salad from Zaxby's. Do you guys have that over there? It's a somewhat healthy fast food type restaurant here. They serve fried chicken fingers and french fries and lot of bad stuff, but if you get tricky on them, you can make some of their zalads very low cal. I'm a huge fan of the blue zalad. It has blue cheese crumbles and wing sauce on it. Yum!! Plus they have all their nutritional info online so you can plan ahead and special order to perfection!
Yesterday:
Snack: spoon PB (100)
Pre work out snack: protein bar (200)
Dinner: too much crock pot meal. It was chicken stew or something like that and somehow the water mostly evaporated out of it so I wound up eating way more than I meant too plus I was hungry last night. Dang. I'm kinda pissed at myself. Oh, and 2 biscuits. (850 )
Total: 2050. On a more positive note for yesterday. I really wanted some sweets yesterday and I didn't eat any.
Today:
Breakfast: whole wheat bagel with crunchy honey PB (400)

B: Kashi
S: pb sandwich, might need to go downstairs and get eggs though, i'm hungry and craving eggs....
L: brought chicken breast, roasted veggies and asparagus
S: pear, orange
might have packet of tuna too if I'm hungry this afternoon...
protein shake is packed for the gym...
dinner - more chicken, maybe in an omelet.
I think i need to start hard boiling eggs again to add to the lean protein i get during the day... the tuna isn't cheap, and the pb has a lot of fat so that's a once/day type thing... and maybe bring hot sauce into work, that's nice on HB egg whites

I'm suckin' back a post-workout protein shake.
For dinner, me thinks some nice steamed white fish in light tomato-garlic sauce, a huuuuuge spinach salad and some nice fibery bulgar wheat a la Asia, (dressed in a sesame oil accented, cilantro-ish kinda sauce, more garlic but of courrrrse).

Started going to the gym 2/2008. Doing mostly cardio / elliptical. I am shooting for looking drastically different by August for my wife's family reunion. My ultimate goal is to be 180 by the end of December.

Quoting: Minu I'm suckin' back a post-workout protein shake.
I just picked up some ready to drink protein shakes (EAS Myoplex Lite). I am going to get some protein powder later this week with a shaker. I am looking forward to seeing if adding them makes a difference pre / post workout.

FWIW, I never do pre-workout foods. In fact, my workouts usually take place before eating anything in the day. I find, (and this is just my take, we're all such different beans), that having food in the system during grueling workouts can lead to the most unpleasant feelings in my tummy/guts.

Lunch: Panera Bread - "chose 2" chicken salad sandwich on whole wheat and french onion soup (500) They tricked me though. I was shooting for 400 so I looked up on the web site before I went and french onion soup WITHOUT cheese and croutons is 80 Cal while french onion soup with cheese and croutons is 220 Cal. So they got me. Oh well.
Btw, I'm thinking of incorporating a protein shake into my day. Are there any kinds out there that won't make me gag? I just really don't like to eat/drink things that don't taste good. Or would I be better off just eating more chicken/fish/lean meats? Also, if I do add it, when is the best time to drink it? Here's what my usual work day looks like:
B-6:20ish
S-9
L-11:30 or 12
S-2:30ish
Pre work out snack-4:30 to 5:30
D-7 to 8
I appreciate my Traineo pal's advice!!

I've always been bigger. Maybe not classified as being fat because I carry it pretty well. But, well, I'm fat. There's no fooling myself. In January, months of hard work paid off as my wife got pregnant with what will be our first child. I had been exercising a bit until that point, but I decided to ramp it up a notch and get my weight to where I can be healthy and be around a long time for my wife and kid.
I've been known to drop 40-50 pounds in 5 months or so on a few occasions, only to slowly gain that weight back over a couple years. This time is different. I know everybody says that and usually that statement doesn't come to fruit, but I've got that incentive...becoming a daddy.
Got a blog rolling- rokandroll.blogspot.com
I post on it a few times a week. Mostly fitness stuff. I try to be somewhat humorous. Check it out if you're REALLY bored.

I ate 1.5 rosettes this afternoon and now the sugary goodness is making me ill. Boy, they sure are tasty though. Almost worth the tummyache.

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)

To just add protein to your diet, it's probably better to just eat more whole sources of protein (don't forget egg whites!). But, to fuel a workout, I really suggest the protein shake b/c it takes less energy and time to digest. It's really your chance to get some quick protein to your muscles.
RTD and Muscle Milk are pre-made, and when cold are actually pretty tasty; MM has more calories and more fat though, so not as good if you're primarily looking to lose weight.
The whey powder I use (walmart) recently changed their formula to add a measly 6g of protein and made the taste suck big time, but for the price and convenience, I'll still be using it. I also add a serving of lemon/lime gatorade powder to the choc. shake, and that used to make the good flavor better and now makes the bad flavor worse. Can't win
"Designer Whey" was what I used to use back in the day, and wasn't bad tasting, especially w/ skim milk.
As for timing, take the powder to the gym w/ you in a tumbler (bodybuilding.com has their tumbler thing for 1.99 and that's a good deal) and drink it right after your workout. That's when you will be able to make the most use of the extra protein.
