I'm at student, working to get a Masters in Computer Science. I like to read, write, run, climb, and swim. Although I haven't climbed much recently. I'm currently training for a half marathon on Aug. 17th.

Okay, I've an odd question/concern... I'm usually hungry pretty much non-stop and could eat tons of food for a long time. So a lot of my effort is spent stopping eating even when I'm hungry and trying to watch portion sizes to try and train myself to eat better.
Now, my question is more about workouts. When I perform a good intense workout, I'm not hungry at all. You would think this is when I'd be especially hungry, but I'm just not wanting any food at all.
For example, yesterday mid-morning I did about an hour of weights followed by a 30 or so minute run. Then, at about 5:30, I did an hour of bouldering (climbing). After my morning exercise I wasn't hungry. And after my evening I wasn't either.
After my morning, I decided that I probably hadn't packed enough food for lunch and should probably eat something so I grabbed a piece of banana bread (with nuts) from the little store/deli thing at the gym and ate that (around 11am) and then didn't eat lunch until about 2:30, when I realized it was probably something I should have already done.
Then, after climbing, I met up with some friends to go out to eat since it was wings night. I got a side cesear salad and wings and ate ridiculously slowly, and wished there weren't so many wings (or so much dressing on the salad). I ate it all because I was starting to worry about the lack of food I had probably eaten versus burned.
Of course today, when I haven't done anything (except have my muscles catch up and start aching :P), I've been starving all day. And by the time dinner came around, I felt really weak and in desperate need of something sugary... like possibly low blood sugar - which is also a side effect of a medicine I've been working myself on (increasing small dosages at a time - sucky side-effects).
So, anyone else like this? Any suggestions?

I'm never hungry directly after a workout, I usually have to wait an hour or so before I get hungry. I assume it's the fact that blood had been diverted away from the digestive tract towards muscles. Since there's little blood to help optimize digestion, no hunger signals come.

Yes, exercise does reduce hunger quite often and I would assume Splint's point about the blood being diverted being about right.
My advice would be to eat regularly regardless, because sooner or later that hunger pang WILL kick in and when it does you'll find yourself eating the legs off of the dining table.
Also, your body needs adequate nutrients to repair as without recovery you're not training, you're just gradually killing yourself.

That's why I have a dog... I can blame her for all the chewing marks on the table legs.

Since i've been eating the 5-6 meals I never feel hungry and have to remind myself to eat at specific times regardless of hunger levels. I can't really face anything to eat after the gym for at least an hour, which is good because it usually takes me that long to get my cooking in order.

Good to know it's normal. Yeah, I'm pretty good at making myself eat anyways, because I'm just as worried about not eating enough as I am about eating too much. :P I was tracking what I was eating for a while, but have gone back to taking a break from that as I think I was over thinking it and trying to hard to eat lower calories that even after exercising I didn't like to up my daily limit. So for now, I'm just going to watch the scale/bf% for a while and see what happens.

Just for contrast I lifted weights this morning for an hour and 20 minutes, increased all exercises in either reps completed or weight (including a 3-rep deadlift PR), and it was all on an empty stomach as I haven't eaten since last night.

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Not enough to brag about poundage, but a 3-rep PR nonetheless. Let's just say I'm working towards my goal of double-bodyweight on the deadlift.

I don't know the details as to why, those who replied so far a probably right But I do agree with you as far as it happens to me too. I am not hungry all the time but I am definately NOT hungry after my work outs. About an hour after my workout is when i start to feel my hunger again.
