I once had the #1 worst food in America on that list and I loved it! I'd probably avoid it now.

I sort of disagree with some of the information in this article. For example, Chipotle being the WORST mexican food? I get a burrito bol with steak, rice, black beans, salsa, cheese and sour cream, and it's 810 calories. I don't know how many calories they really expect people to take in every day, but 810 is perfectly reasonable for a dinner for me.

But, yeah, the cheese fries... Oh, honestly, I loved them once. I can't imagine eating them now that I'm living a healthier lifestyle. That's just SO much. I can't even justify that as an "occasional" splurge.

i have never eaten any of that stuff, but i'm glad i know what to avoid haha.
810 calories for dinner is a little much. i usually have around 1300 calories a day.
plus you can't always guarantee how many calories these things really have in them because the cooks all prepare them differently. you never know if someone put on more cheese than they were supposed to.

I thought donuts should be in the top 10 list also.

you'd probably have to eat a lot of donuts to beat those numbers!

If I went out, I would probably have an 800 calorie dinner (or maybe double that - I don't go out much, and wouldn't fret over it), but I would otherwise never have one meal with that many calories... I top out around 500, maybe 600 for a big lunch. At 2000-2500 calories a day, and 5-6 meals, I just don't want (or need) that much at once...

Usually I stay around 1700 calories a day. If I have a snack when I wake up, Chipotle for lunch at 810, then a protein bar in the afternoon for 150 or so, then a lighter dinner at 400-500 calories (we pretty regularly pick up Subway if we go to the gym in the evening, and my sandwich only has about 400 calories), I'm on the right track. But of course, that totally doesn't work for everyone.

I'm just saying that I don't think Chipotle is our worst enemy. I have a feeling they picked on them since there were so many Chili's and On The Border meals for the other categories. I like Chipotle a lot because it's still fresh ingredients. It's much better for me than 810 calories worth of Big Macs! (Or the White Castle equivalent, because they're on every street corner here.)

im sure if you eat any foods occassionally, you are fine and wont gain weight. its what you do over a lifetime and as part of a healthy diet and exercise routine. its ok to splurge once in a while. i think it was just giving the public an idea of how high in calories and fat some meals/appetizers are and how big some portions are. im sure there are many other foods they left out that are far worse. as far as donuts, i agree with dave, you would need alot more than one to be equivalent to those meals.

I see # 1 is Outback Steakhouse Aussie Cheese Fries with Ranch Dressing...we do not even have that fast food chain here and in Australia, cheese fries are unheard of unless you go to somewhere like Lonestar....The rest of the stuff we have here though, but I would never touch it let alone allow my kids too yuck...

What else do they serve on the menu there, does anyone know?

On Australia Day, (26 Jan) I went to a BBQ and tasted emu and crocodile for the first time - dipped in a hot sauce.....I was quite surprised it was VERY good..the crocodile tasted similar to chicken but with the texture of squid/calamari and the emu was...Hmmm..I think it tasted a little bit like a well done steak...

I saw those freakin' pancakes and 3 teeth fell out!

I realize that food photography is challenging, but clearly they had some fun making these choices look extra-gross.

Time for my mornin' joe...

Wow. Alot of those pictures actually did disgust me. Still some of them looked preety tasty, like them cheese fries with ranch! I knew eatng out would give me alot of calories, I just didn't realize it would be nearly a day and a halfs worth! ill half to be more careful of that next time.
On another note, Chilis Lime Grilled Shrimp(i think thats what its called, and its healthy they said) is actually preety darn good! And the outback...yummmmeee...!

tex

Yuck. All of that looked so gross to me ... largely because most of it was meaty, and I don't eat meat. No temptation. That feels GOOD.

Chili's has the guiltless grill, and it is pretty darn good! Besides, Chili's has all of their nutritional info online (click on Download Nutritional Information at the bottom right of the page) so you can scope out what you are going to eat and how many calories it has before you go. The challenge is sticking to it once you get there and see all that yummy food. I don't mind restaurants that serve unhealthy food as long as they have healthy alternatives and nutritional info. It's the restaurants that don't have any nutritional info like Applebee's that kinda freak me out. I even sent them a message requesting the info once and they said no. Kinda makes me wonder what's in their food that they so desperately don't want the public to find out about.

I just want a juicy (greasy), cheesy, medium rare burger... don't really care about the nutrition info - that will just make me feel bad about it

That food looked icky to me.. But thats probably because I was in the process of eating some really yummy frozen peaches and pineapple.

I call em Prawns too. Unless they are super tiny.. then i'll call them shrimpies.

I wonder how many calories are in Poutine.. I bet its more than those bacon and cheese fries. For those of you that don't know.. Poutine is Fries, with sqeaky cheese on top, then covered in beef gravy.

They wouldn't give it to me because - wait I'll actually dig up the old email and give you the direct quote. *searches old emails*

My email to them:

Heidi,

I understand that this probably isn't your decision, but I hope that you are letting people further up know that there is a desire for nutritional information. With a society that is becoming more and more overweight, it is critical to supply this information so that people can make informed decisions on what to eat. Also, some of your competitors such as Chili's and Ruby Tuesdays supply a full list of nutritional information on all of there items and they are just as widespread and diverse as Applebee's if not more so. I understand the fear of giving incorrect information in a culture that is so prone to suing over anything, but you can put a disclaimer, that is what every other place that supplies nutritional information does to prevent the possibility of being sued. The consumerist has recently done an article on chain restaurants and the nutritional information that they provide. Your restaurant got the worst rating possible. Next time I think about where I'd like to eat, I'll be picking Ruby Tuesdays over Applebee's. I like to know what I'm putting in my body. However, as soon as nutritional information is available at Applebee's, I will be glad to return. Please be so kind as to forward this message on up the line so that hopefully something will be done to remedy this situation. Thanks,

Rachael McCarty

They're email back:

Dear Rachael,

Thank you for your request for nutritional information. At this time all we have is the fat, fiber and calorie details of our Weight Watchers menu items. With over 1,900 locations worldwide there are many different producers, suppliers and vendors which make it extremely difficult to ensure that the information we would provide would be accurate.

We do value our guest's feedback and hopefully will have more nutritional information available at a later date. I will share your feedback with our Research and Development team.

Sincerely,

Heidi Marshall
Guest Relations Coordinator II
Case # 626818

Basically what I glean from this is that the Applebee's higher ups don't want there to be nutritional info for their food.

I never heard of Poutine before, but anything lathered in gravy and topped with squeaky cheese has got to be awesome!
