I have recently tried Blue Agave Nectar in my coffee in place of sugar, and I have been pleasantly surprised. It has the same calories as sugar but is sweeter so you use about half as much. Most importantly, though, it has a very low glycemic index of 19. It is safe for diabetics. I tried the light; it also comes in medium and dark. It's a bit like a light honey but with a cleaner taste. I don't like the taste of stevia and I had problems with Splenda (it took me 6 months to figure out what was causing sores in my mouth, which stopped within hours of my discontinuing it.). Blue Agave nectar is available at most natural food stores; it is also fine to use in cooking, apparently, though I have not tried it.
