Hey Everyone:

Seeking a bit of advice here. What do you do when you have a day that's way off track, calorie wise (i.e. instead of a goal of around 1900 calories, due to a big dinner, some beer drinking, and some snackiness after getting back home, I hit almost 3500 calories!).

I've been trying to keep my average intake at 1900 calories. I.e. Most days 1800 calories, some days 2200, etc. Now I'll have to go down to 1700 for awhile to recover from the big night... Is this stupid? Should I just write off that night and try to keep it from happening again? I'm willing to be disciplined, but don't want to go too low, especially when I'm exercising.

Thanks for your advice!

Write it off and keep your focus on the next day and not repeating the same "mistakes."

I feel like a hypocrite for saying, since I've had about 4 bad days in a row, but I know that's what you have to do (and me as well I suppose).

Yeah, I think you fell off the wagon, now you just need to get right back on

Thanks for the encouragement! But any advice on whether you should cut your calories after a bad diet day?

I wouldn't. I'd go back to your regular amount of calories if I were you. Consistency is key.

I agree with Curtis; the goal is consistency, so when you have a bad day just go back to that consistent and good diet. And don't stress, Brandon, this happens to all of us! Remember that it takes a 3500 calorie difference to gain/lose a lb, so your bad day will barely even register on the scale on the week's average.

Don't try and compensate for it by cutting calories in subsequent days. Thats not how it works.

We get our results from what we do 80% of the time, so don't worry about abusing the system one day a week.

Hell, the reason we get so damn fit is so we can let our hair down and party with the chicks knowing we look and feel good!! Not to sit in on celery sticks looking out the window with envy.

Ha, thanks Dean, Dave, and CK. Okay, gonna give myself the full 1890 calories then... And keep it up for a week straight!

if I know a bad day is coming up, I make sure to stay lower than normal on the previous day or days, and the day of until the event, and the day after (plural there too) and get back to my routine afterwards, recovering from the incident slowly and suddenly.
