Oh my God it's like i'm looking into a mirror.

Trust me i'm in the same situation.... and still am.

My parents sometimes wouldnt feel like cooking, or I would have something simple, like a pie... and feel hungry later. I didnt really have proper lunches or anything either.

I can't cook myself, so if I have lunch now i'll probebly have a snack insted of lunch. I'm sick of pasta and sandwhiches so that doesn't help.

What i've been doing though, thanks to my partner, he often might go and grab a carrot and eat it, so i've been doing it with him. So here's a suggestion: Don't stop eating the food you are yet. Insted, at one stage when you feel hungry have something healthy. Like a Carrot say. If you're in the mall and you feel hungry (like I do, instantly when I walk in) Try and find a place that has some nice healthy food. In my mall we have a place that makes Kebabs, which is a tortilla bread which rappes up lettuce, tomatoes, pineapple, carrots, cheese, chicken, etc in it. That is really nice.

The point of this is to get your body use to eating healthy food. If you're like me and NEVER eat healthy food (I would never touch an apple because it wouldn't fill me up), this is a good way to start getting off the junk food. If you eat these healthy snacks for a while, and you get use to it, eventually you can start substituting unhealthy snacks each day for something nice you have invented that's healthy.

I know it may be hard to do, but so far it's working for me. For lunches just have pasta, or if you like sea food try and cook up some fish if you can, it shouldnt take as long.

I'm really picky as well, so I know what you mean about eating particular things. I could go to the pantry and see pasta and I would say "hmmm nooooo..... I don't really feel like pasta" and if I see some bread I'd be saying the same thing. Then in the end i'm saying it about everything. So it's hard, but you've just got to try and eat healthy things.

I hope this helped a bit

I have the same problem with fast food as well. Sometimes I have cravings that need to be met!

What I've been trying to do is cut some things out of the fast food I eat. For instance if you like cheeseburgers, try to get the burger with no cheese and no mayo. If you get french fries get a small instead of a large.

Of course if you end up just binging, try to work a little harder at the gym to make up for it.

I hear ya,

Its so hard, it has to become a habit, which means spending a month of consciously saying no to the yum stuff.

It helps to just fill yourself with the most boring but healthy fillers whenever you feel hungry.

I personally just tank up on weetbix or Muesli until food is the last thing on my mind, same goes for fizzy drinks, I just chuck back 2 glasses of water, and I wish I hadn't considered it.

Get that habit engrained into your way of life and your problem will go away.

I agree with Chris and Dave and Sian.

Make the choices on eating healthy, if you go to fast food, skip the fries or order a small (or even a kids one).

Like Dave says just spend the time saying no, and its easier to resist it every day. Also look at possibly prepping food for another day on a day you have more time to cook/prep it

A Happy meal is all an adult should eat at McD's... with a diet coke or water... (That still freaks me out)

Try to eat at home or foods from home. Eat frequently - but smaller meals. Don't go out hungry.

If you do eat out, modify your order. Fruit instead of fries... broth instead of cream soup... no appetizers... no desserts... no sugar drinks... no alcohol...

Easier said then done? Yeah... especially because we've (American's at least) have been conditioned from marketing and society to crave the four food groups: fat, salt, breading, and corn syrup.
Delicious! (Seriously... the old Rick - would wait in line to order and eat a deep fried piece-o cheesecake, now it just seems like a horendous idea)
That's why there's Traineo!

I agree, traineo saves lives.

This is the best I've done with my weight loss and workout goals, and I've been trying to do it all year! I still struggle with my diet, but it's getting better. Now I can barely force myself to eat fast food, whereas a month ago I was shoveling it down for breakfast, lunch and dinner (scary!)

I understand what you're going through, and I can only suggest one word: commitment. When you commit to getting healthier and eating the way you know you have to in order to reach your fitness goals, it will get easier to drive by a McCrappy's (McDonald's) without having to stop, and you'll smile to yourself when you see it in your rearview mirror. You won't be perfect, and occassionally you will slip up and get that cheeseburger, but if you do so in moderation, you should be fine.

Best of luck!

I think everybody goes through a similar process. For me, whenever I got a craving (and it was often!), I would wait 20 minutes. MOST of the time, after those 20 minutes were over I didn't want that food anymore. If, after the 20 minutes was up, I was still craving I would indulge a little. For example, if I wanted Mcdonalds so bad that it was consuming my mind I would wait the 20 minutes and if it didn't work I would go get a single cheeseburger. I then would work extra hard at the gym to pay for that indulgence. For the most part the 20 minute rule seemed to cut the cravings 75% of the time. Its worth a shot at least

That is so true Matt. I would say drink a big glass of water too to make sure you aren't confusing hunger with thirst!

you need to plan ahead and make the commitment to a healthy lifestyle. i grew up on all fast food too and i cant cook but thats not an excuse. it does make it more difficult but there are things you can do to help you. if you are going to the mall, either eat before, bring a snack with you, or choose a healthier place. walk right passed the food court. continue walking. think of what your goals are.
try adding 1 or 2 new things to your diet and/or eliminating 1 or 2 "bad" things from your diet. not everything is going to change overnight. carry water with you, carry a protein bar with. you can have cereal for breakfast, make a sandwich, or a wrap for lunch, and a salad for dinner. you dont have to have cooking skills to do that.

In order to adopt a new habit, you need to be willing to incorporate it into your life for 21 days. You should keep a food journal and log everything you eat for that long making a pointed effort not to eat crap. After 21 days you should review what you ate and see what may have triggered the junk food cravings (weekends, out with friends, skipped breakfast?). By doing this your finding out important information about yourself and this can be used for future success. After 21 days off good behavior, there will be a part of you that becomes stronger in beating temptation. You feel that you've been good for 21 days and you don't want to break the streak.

If you can make it that far, I'm not adverse to re-introducing certain junk foods you like. I don't believe avoidance is mastering a craving, it's a form of weakness actually. True mastery of cravings and weaknesses is moderation.
