Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Preformance
I heard this a few times and I just wanted to share it with you. I think it is really true when it comes to diet. I have to do alot of planning and preparation for my diet to stay on track and sometimes it really is a pain in the neck but in the long run it really is worth. Also, in terms of exercise if I plan ahead it helps too. Its just a good life motto and maybe a good bumper sticker too (Jeff!)

A few ups and downs with the weight lately. Losing those last 10 lbs again now. Revised fitness plan: -some cardio EVERY day for a month to remove the revenge of the hip fat -some weight training, some pilates -I love biking and lots of fun summer sports! That's what it's all about-good times!
I will eat healthy foods and let my body weigh what it wants to weigh. I concentrate on whole grains, lean proteins, fruits and veggies, and I will eat delicious chocolate when I want to! Guilt has been removed from my vocabulary.
The wave of passion can be an unstoppable force.
To get what you've never had, you must do what you've never done.
Procrastination is opportunity's natural assassin.

Hi! I'm a 44 year-old slightly overweight male looking to loose 30lbs by the end of year. For me, weight loss is just one part of an overall plan for living a healthier lifestyle (as healthy a lifestyle as possible!) In addition to diet and exercise, other elements of my healthy way of life include good sleep, proper hydration, kicking the (smoking) habit, meditation, and disease management (I have rheumatoid arthritis).
I signed up at Traineo because maintaining routines has always been difficult for me. 3 years ago however, after many tries, I was finally able to maintain an exercise routine for a period of 6 months with outstanding results. I then stopped working out so I'd have more time for other things and 3 months later the RA got worse. Since then I've been unable to motivate myself back into the gym.
Well, my motivation is back, due in part to Traineo. I think having a few motivators will be a great help. Also, posting my efforts on the Internet, for the whole world to see, may help to keep me on my toes. I'm not entirely sure about that yet so I may change my profile so only Traineo members can see it.
I'm strong willed, but most of all I crave the results I achieved 3 years ago. So I'm determined, and thus far my spirits remain high. I sure am glad you stopped to read about me and great luck with your own efforts! Cheers!

I want muscles! I want to be healthy, energetic, and I want my mental image to match my outside image. I'm in this for the long haul.

Been running most of my life. Fairly casually the last few years with highlights being 3 marathons, and 1 half-marathon. I enjoy coaching and mentoring, and helping others reach their full potential. I'm a "heavy runner" and hoping to get some weight off and pick up some speed.

Jennifer,
Right on! Two examples of how this approach helps me:
1). Exercise. I do MUCH MUCH better when I establish a training calendar for the week/month/quarter. The "prior" "prep/planning" helps me see what's ahead so I don't get thrown off track and can make sure my life is in order. For example, if I have a 15 mile long run on Sunday, I need to plan to get rest the night before and recovery time before heading back into family things. I realize not everyone out there is doing 2 hr. runs, but the same applies to getting to the gym, planning time in the morning for walks, etc.
2). Food. I have a lot of business lunches. When I plan ahead, I eat a nice breakfast, and snack throughout the morning so I don't "perform poorly" when staring at the menu
I need to add that phrase to my coaching/mentoring. Because, it sure as heck applies to the work place. Doing your homework is everything!
Thanks. Great topic.

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

I tend to cook a large "one dish" type of meal on Sunday that I can bring everyday for the week, or for a few days with planning on cooking tuesday or wednesday after work as well. This keeps me healthy and saves time (and money!)... Also on Sunday, I'm able to pick up things that go in my desk to have snacks for the week - nuts, fruit, light whole grain english muffins & pb, etc. Having a stocked "work pantry" and a prepared meal everyday is a HUGE bonus and helps me stick to 5-6 healthy meals/day.

Works for me too, when I actually take the time to stock up. Dave, great point and a good tip for newbies.
