OK, I just got a 6 week old kitten...and let me tell you, she is the BEST medicine for ensuring that I don't go back for seconds on meals. She is so persistent on trying to stand on my plate, play with my food, and use me as a chew toy that it is just too much effort to try and eat with her standing in my food. Not to mention, that she always wants to play keeping me from mindless eating when I come home from work at night.

You can see my kitty, Link: and

So, after trying it myself, I absolutely would recommend an energetic kitten to help curb eating out of boredom.

I know this is a small example of how a pet can help with healthy lifestyle and overall wellbeing...but I am sure there are other stories that you all have. I would love to hear how you all think your pets contribute to your health.

Aww! Have fun with your new kitty! They grow really quickly!

I have three older cats, because I'm an idiot. One of them still has the nerve to reach up and swipe at the food you are eating in an attempt to have it for herself. Problem is, she likes to go for all the stuff that I should be eating, like tuna and chicken. I can eat a cookie without incident. My pets aren't a whole lot of help there.

My dog is the best thing for keeping healthy. She has the saddest look in the world if she doesn't get her walks.

Cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute lil minou, (French talk for "kitty", as well as a term of endearment among couples)...

My pooch is great to spent QT with on the trails, which I almost always do if it's sunny--if not, I work him in the backyard 'til he's tuckered.

That sweet mug gets me everythime...

I can't wait until I can have a dog... as the necessary walks would be a sure thing! However, I currently live in a condo and am not home much, so I didn't think it would be fair to have a dog at this point. But, I will some day and then I will pick out the most energetic breed there is!

Lab.

110% DOG!

My pooch is a Yellow Lab, and he's always wanting MORE, be it playing, walks, or of course, FOOOOOD.

Their highly glutenous nature makes them easily trainable, and there's no worries if you're using diet fiber crisp breads for treats, (which he loves, well, he loves almost anything he can chew),

And in the summer, he's a fool for ICE, the ultimate no-cal-treat.

Minu...yep lab is what I wanted... So thanks for the insight! I will certainly go down that road once my lifestyle is right to properly take care of him/her.

I've never thought of a pet to help curb your appetite, interesting.

I have 2 pitbulls that love to play tug-of-war and will NOT let go once they have a bone in their mouth. In the spirit of having your pets help you with your diet/workout, I'm going to start bicep-curling my dogs once they latch onto a bone.

Sadie and I started running together and seriously trimmed down this past spring.

Sounds good, my dog weighs about 65 pounds, gotta keep working out!

Tug-o-war eh? I can see that being a MAJOR workout with a Pit especially.

I never allow my pooch to tug or take ANYTHING from my hand--if I want what's in his mouth, I just look at him with "the hairy eyeball", and he releases it, and he's promptly rewarded with it being tossed for a fetch. Last thing I need is my rotator cuff ripped off when I'm not ready for El Tanko Loco!

Ha, get this, the Buddy Lat Stretch and the Seated Buddy Lat Stretch work the upper & lower lats; two people across from one another play tug-of-war, back-and-forth with a rope or towel or something. While normally performed with another person, I can see how doing this with a dog might be loads of fun.
