I've seen a couple of threads on diet soda, and most people seem to think it is overall detrimental. So I was curious what you all thought of those diet drink powder packets like Propel and Crystal light that you add to water. I drink between 1-3 a day, and sometimes I do it so I won't eat something else, sometimes I drink it because I"m tired of drinking water. Also I get the packets with lots of vitamins in them, I like getting extra vitamins that way because I'm a college student and it's hard to get all the vitamins I need.

Allo, Elle, welcome to the site,
In the big picture, there is really no substitute for H20, which is really all I drink aside from my morning cup o' joe, the odd oolong/green tea/infusion, or wine with dinner.
As soon as you add anything to water, be it Crystal Light or coffee grounds, it is simply no longer water, and thusly not treated by the body as such.
Bottom line--it's your choice to glug what you like, but it's also your responsibility to make it the most useful for your body as often as possible.
If you workout hard each day and sweat up a river--it's all the more reason to replenish those reserves with pure water.
Sometimes, when I feel nibbley and it's a "diet day", I'll have some sugar-free gum, or even a chewable vitamin instead.

With a sweetener and caffeine, I can make an endless combination of sports and fitness drinks. Everything else is marketing.
If you're at or near your ideal weight, one fluid hydrates as well as the next though. My main objection is that these drinks are unnecessary expenses and keep you addicted to sweeteners -- so even if your fitness drink is zero calorie, it keeps your taste buds attuned to unhealthy food choices.

I've read articles stating that artifical sweetners can trigger insulin spikes just like real sugar. I don't know if it's true but if you have family history of diabetes, it may be worth discussing with your doctor.

If you would drink nothing as opposed to drinking the water w/packets, I think you may as well stick with what you're doing. In comparison to diet soda, yours is the better option, since you're not taking in the phosphoric acid. You may want to try subbing water once in a while though, just to wean yourself from the sweetness. If you're drinking to avoid cravings, you might try some kind of healthful food instead. If it's the lesser of two evils though, definitely stick with the Propel or Crystal Light rather than eating something junky.

I'm not a fan of those crystal light packets. I'm always thirsty after I drink one. Water doesn't leave me thirsty.

A few ups and downs with the weight lately. Losing those last 10 lbs again now. Revised fitness plan: -some cardio EVERY day for a month to remove the revenge of the hip fat -some weight training, some pilates -I love biking and lots of fun summer sports! That's what it's all about-good times!
I will eat healthy foods and let my body weigh what it wants to weigh. I concentrate on whole grains, lean proteins, fruits and veggies, and I will eat delicious chocolate when I want to! Guilt has been removed from my vocabulary.

Sometimes, the crystal light keeps me from drinking a sugary option. I don't drink it every day. I like the raspberry lemonade flavor.
Sometimes a slice of lemon or lime added to some icewater makes it a little more special.
Another option...how about making your own pitcher of iced tea, keep in the fridge, fill those water bottles when you're on-the-go. Use green tea, or whatever you like.
