I have a history of long winded posts so I'll keep this brief. I started my "omg I should grow up and get myself fit" regime 2 weeks ago. I work out 5 days a week as soon as I get off of work. I also keep track and watch my diet like a hawk.

What I'm wondering about is whether I should worry about being as vigilant on my weekends, or if I should feel confident on resting on Saturday and Sunday.

If anyone else would like to share their experience I would appreciate it.

I usually take one of those days off from working out. My diet is less strict on the weekends. I usually "cheat" 2-4 meals during the weekend.

It's ultimately up to you how you'll feel if you take the weekends off or not. I personally usually workout everyday if possible, taking a fullout rest day only once or twice a month.

As for my diet, I usually have a special enjoying day (like when we're invited for a dinner party for eg), in that ratio too, once or twice a month.

Over time, you'll see what works and feels best for you.

Enjoy the road,

I would recommend doing a none workout activity on the weekends. If you are hitting the gym everyday after work, then you might get bored doing it on the weekends. If you have a place to go hike or bike, then do that. Maybe pickup a hobby on the weekend; like volleyball or indoor rock climbing. Basically, some physical activity that will get your body moving, but not really be a workout.

You can always get a Wii and play some of the active games on the weekend too.

Good advice, Dean.

On that note, badmington can be a pretty enjoyable and, depending on who you're playing with, a fiesty way to sweat out a couple of hours. It's a nice sport in that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get into, and you can play virtually anywhere--net, shmet...

Hub and I used to do a lot of it. I miss it.

Not really. I am sure I could have lost more lbs by now or my BF% could be a bit better, but again it is a journey. I am in no hurry to lose all the weight, so if I get to enjoy some cheating meals once in a while on the weekends, I am good with that. My weight barely goes up on the weekends. However, because I know I am going to cheat a bit on the weekends, I will workout 2 hours on Saturday mornings, instead of 1 hour.

I work out 6 days a week, mon-sat, and I take sunday completely off. Usually I eat whatever I want on the weekends, but I get back on track mon-fri. I like having that day of rest and eating crappy food because it makes me feel guilty and keeps me motivated.

I used to work out hard every day, but I found that I would be exhausted after a week or so of working out without giving my body a rest. So i switched my routine to the one I wrote about above. Also, I still lose weight even with 1 day of rest and cheating.

I personally didn't give myself cheat days when I was dieting and working out like a fanatic during Summer because as soon as I start that habit, I break my cycle and I become a repeat offender.

I am doing that whole giving myself cheat days only now because with school, it's hard to keep such a strict regimen. Which is why I'm not losing the weight like I was during Summer.

But as other people said, do what you feel is right. Just don't go overboard with those cheat meals. On those cheat days (as I do them..) I'll eat up to 2000 calories that's it. I don't go over, that would ruin my whole week's worth of work if not! Giving your body a break can help with dieting though. Sort of breaks a pattern.
