When I first decided I need to start eating sensibly, I knew what foods I couldn't eat, but didn't really know what I should eat to accomplish my goals. I did some bulking and put some muscle on during summer, now I'm looking to cut most of the fat. Here is what I eat M-F:

8:30 am
1 cup Oats/granola
8oz orange juice

10:00 am
1/2 cup almonds

12:00 pm
6oz chicken breast sandwich w/veggies OR Peanut Butter sandwich on whole wheat

3:30 pm
Rice Cakes OR large pickle OR apple OR yogurt

5:30 pm
Turkey Sandwich/Veggie Burger on whole wheat with mustard & Lettuce

7:30 pm
Workout

9:00 pm
6oz skim milk w/one scoop Optimum Nutrition Whey
sometimes a large apple

Usually between 1400-1600 calories depending on how strict I stay to these sizes. Also, it's a little heavy on the carbs and protein, but you can add fats into the 10:00 am or 3:30 pm snacks. Comments and criticisms are always appreciated, let me know what your diet consists of!

I try not to think about what I eat as much as how big the portion is and what it has inside of it. I look mainly for protein and fiber, and I always check to see that it has no trans fat or hydrogenated anything because I heard you can't burn it off.

I used to only check calories, now I check protein and fiber (I don't calculate my intake but I check to see that it at least has some), no trans fats or very little (I don't worry about sat fat cuz I think that's for cholesterol, not there in my life yet to worry about that)

I also check if sodium is high (like close to 1000mg) and see if there are any nutrients. Going to a grocery store is like going to a candy store. Every single thing I pass by, I just pick up and look at the labels. You'd be amazed at how quickly things add up!

I basically try to eat things that don't have labels as much as possible, (lots of nuts, legumes veggies, fruits 'n dried fruits, fishes, wholegrain carbs, white meats, etc). If I'm not sure of a natural food's content, I hit the Net.

I'm even making my own cookies and such now, so when those sweet-craves happen, they happen in health. I use whole wheat flour, and more often than not, almond flour to keep the carb contents lower.

Some things of course do have labels, so when I buy things like say jam, it's no-sugar-added natural prune spread, which usually has half the calories of a regular jam and only fructose for my blood to deal with. Plus I really like that stuff with lo-fat cream cheese on a fibery crispbread.
