That thing seems to have a ton of sugar in it which is never a good idea IMHO.
I'd just figure out the calories and eat 'good stuff' instead.
I think the benefit of these kind of bars is easy calories, probably OK if you are trying to gain weight but not if you are tring to lose it.

I don't think they are worth it. You would be better off with a Whey protein shake, and a bannana. I know I have had problems with them, and I was buying the organic, natural ones without any sugar, and they just added two many calories.

I would like to reach a preliminary goal weight of 65kg and then assess my true goal weight. I've been slimmer than that but I'm working out a lot more these days and I know muscle weighs more than fat.

You'll get a lot more enjoyment out of your food and therefore be able to stick to your diet better if you work out a proper meal with the right calorie count and nutritional profile for your plan.
Also highly processed food like this always seems to wind up being bad for you in some way.
That's just my 2 cents...

I'm a 23 year old FFB (former fat boy). I'm a grad student at the Univ. of Phoenix. I was married on June 1st, 2007 by a wonderful supportive woman.
I have always been the fat kid so now I've changed that. I started at 305. I lost 80 pounds and was at 225 after I was sick. From Jan 07 to Apr 07, I put on 25 pounds. I then started to lose weight again, but started doing it the right way. I am now 235 and leaner than I was at 225. I'm going to see how close I can get to a 6 pack, but eventually I'll start trying to put on some muscle. Then lean out again.
Six-Pack would be awesome, I've never had one of those. So we'll see. (my photo is me at 305lbs. when i get a good pic of me now at my current weight, i'll post it)

I am a contractor for a monolithic IT firm. This translates into a lot of time spent sitting. I have always been a big guy, but I am tired of being obese so I am going to utilize the power of community to hold my feet to the fire to stay active.

I don't disagree with any of the above comments. Still there is a time and a place where such bars are a very good alternative to what else is available.
On road trips (on a motorcycle) I will often turn to one of those bars instead of grabbing something else in the gas station.
When the options are limited, they are good. Other times it is better to go with whole foods.

I've been into health and fitness seriously since January of 2006. I played college football, so I've always been into weight training, but only recently have I really started trying to eat healthy and exercise regularly for my own personal fitness.
Feel free to send me an email or comment. I need a motivator or two!

I'm also in the "don't eat them unless you have to" camp. Meal replacement bars usually have some good protein, but almost all of them have useless calories beyond the protein.
That said, if you're on the road or something and you need a meal from a convenience store, they can be just about your best bet. For a very active mobile person, sometimes they are a godsend. Also, not all bars are made the same. Look for bars that are low in sugar and "sugar alcohols".
One of the best I've found are Vyo-Pro bars by AST Sport Science. They don't taste awesome, but they aren't bad, and they are pretty cheap as far as bars go.
Here's the nutitional data on them:

I like cliff-bars.
They are fairly low in sugar, no trans-fat and made out of stuff that grows out of the ground or at least made by earthly-creatures, like oats and honey...
Usually my post-workout meal is some whey-protein mixed in fat-free lactaid (can't take milk) and a cliff bar which gives me that nice 60/40 protein carb mix.
If you nuke them for like 15 seconds they actually taste like a baked good and don't have that chalky taste some bars have...

I'm a big fan of a balance bar for a mini-meal (usually between lunch and dinner). They're only 200 calories, are pretty satisfying, and have some protein in them... It's so hard to have snacks on the go that have protein in them otherwise. With a piece of fruit, seems like a good meal to me!

I picked up an EAS Myoplex Deluxe bar at Wal-Mart over the weekend. This one is a full-fledged meal replacement, with about 330 cals, 30-some grams of protein and 30-some grams of carbs.
I'm looking forward to trying it out. EAS makes good stuff in my opinion.

I am 29 years old and have grown passionate about fitness and health! Overall, I have lost and kept off a little over 40 pounds, and I have about 20 or so more that I would like to take off. This last year has been tough and distracting in many ways, and I am back to work now! I am revisiting Traineo, because this site and the people here were instrumental in helping me lose my original 40 pounds so I am back! I regret that because of time constraints I won't be able to be AS active in the forums as I used to, but I will certainly try to stay in there and reconnect with old friend as well as make new ones.
My fitness goals remain the same as before as I haven't achieved them yet: *GOAL 1 = 140 lbs Target Date = 7/31/08 Date Met = TBD CURRENT FITNESS GOALS: Run a 5K, improve flexibility enough to do the splits, be able to do 50 pushups in a row, be able to do a pull-up, learn to do a hand stand and then hand stand pushups. :)

Meal replacement bars are sometimes a necessity for us people who are on the go. The thing I watch for is low sugars, high proteins - and if they taste good, that is an added bonus. There are only a few brands that I actually like though.
