Tough Day today... everyone is gone out of the office to load up on calories at some chinese/mexican/italian place... meanwhile I am staying here and staying on plan...
I have this primal urge to join them... but it is irrational and I need to stay on plan....
So I am doing this post instead.
It's Five O'Clock Anywhere but Here!

I am a contractor for a monolithic IT firm. This translates into a lot of time spent sitting. I have always been a big guy, but I am tired of being obese so I am going to utilize the power of community to hold my feet to the fire to stay active.

The guys in the office are currently ordering their Friday Pizza's. We are in the same boat man.

Sucks doesn't it... making a life change is quite the pyschological battle sometimes. At least I/we will feel better that I/we stayed on plan.

With a family history of obesity, staying fit and losing weight for me are more than nice-to-haves: They're essentials.

The frustrating thing for me is when I see people who appear to be thin chowing down on such things.
I regularly go to lunch with a group from work that eats more than I eat and eats worse than I eat, but none of them appears to be larger than I am.
One of these folks told me last night that he's actually gained 15lbs in the past few years. Started out so thin that it isn't noticeable. I told him about Traineo and felt good to help. Am I a bad person that I also felt relieved that I'm not a freak with a cursed metabolism?
Ron
P.S. to K M: If it really is a combination chinese/mexican/italian place, that alone would help me stick to my diet. What a combo!

I had reached my goal weight a while back. Kids, surgery, work and inactivity brought it right back. I was feeling like crap, so I started over again.

Stick with the plan ! My buddies are drinking Guinness while I'm nibbling on a chicken breast and drinking green tea ! No hangover tomorrow is going to make me feel great.

good point Warren... personally speaking I have already had my share of Guinness in the past... That is partly why I am trying to lose weight now.
So in a way, I am not being deprived of what others are doing... I have already indulged in all that stuff (way too much)... and now I am on hold while others catch up.
not sure if this makes sense...oh well.

That is an awesome way to look at it. Once the Guinness padding is moved off the waist we're going to feel a lot better. I love the black beer and I'll have one when I feel my diet is more under control. Until then a positive attitude is going to carry me through.

Hi there! I'm 29 years old, living in NW metro Atlanta. I used to be really fit (didn't we all...) when I was taking 5 dance classes a week and staying really active. Then college and other stuff happened and I find myself 100 pounds overweight. Wow... you don't realize the impact of that until you see it in black white. Last October I walked the Atlanta Breast Cancer 3-Day, and I'm considering whether or not I will walk again this year. At any rate, right now I am planning to continue my training routine (a little scaled down, of course... no 10-15 mile walks in my near future) to help me get in shape and lose my weight!

I agree that's a really great way to look at it! I'm going to keep that in mind when I start to feel bad about not joining my friends for excessive birthday cake, desserts, dinners out, etc.

I always go with people when they are out for a meal. Just go there and tell everybody that you are on a diet, and they will really respect you for it. If they are good friends and good people they will actually not let you indulge in bad foods for your sake ! Have a quick meal before you go and just sit there for diet sodas with them
I never say miss out socially because of dieting, in fact turn it round your way and talk about your diet at the table, joking about how you would love their mexican food but can't have it !

Nick,
I can't argue with your point. However, it is simply too early for me to start putting myself in a situation that may allow me to go off plan. In a month or so, I am hoping to do exactly what you recommend. Until then, I need to protect my fragile state of mind and steer away from temptation.

For me it is personally a balance. To get my preferences established I have to do it apart from some people that will not support my choices. Take ice cream for example, it took a while but I just don't enjoy it anymore. If I had been hanging out with people that loved it and constantly told me "Come'on just one scoop won't kill you." it would have been way harder.

the typo in the subject aside....
2 months have elapsed since I started this post. What a difference. I used to be so stressed out about food. When I started this thread, I was really stressed out that I couldn't go out and eat with my friends at work.
I thought about it constantly. It was at the center of my social world.
When I wrote the first post 2 months ago... I was consumed by consumption of food.
It is so wonderful to be freed from this.
I am much more healthier, I handle stress much better, and I do not overeat.
While I reflect upon this transformation, I am also cautious that I could go back to the 'dark side' at any time and go off plan.
So far so good. Just need to keep plugging away.
I truly appreciate having the Traineo community as one my pillars of strength and support.
Thank You!
