Well we are back. I was disappointed to see that I had not lost weight while in Michigan. It is quite frustrating to think of how little calories I need a day, even when running. I bet with exercise I need only about 1500 calories a day.

Anyway, running is going well.

I did some calculations for you. If you were a 30 year old man who is 5'10 and doing only moderate workouts you would need to eat a lot more food than 1500 calories - even when losing weight.

In fact, you are eating the calories of a man who would weigh 52 lbs.

If you are not losing weight at that calorie level it is most likely because your body has gone into starvation mode and is trying to hold on to your fat.

Here is a link on how to calculate how many calories you should be eating.

Thanks for that post! I tend to go with the eating less is better mentality if I'm not careful, which of course means I get crazy hungry and pig out!

So it's good to actually have a sense of a real number that works. Thanks!

You need a lot more than 1500 calories a day, unless you're Verne Troyer.

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Look up your BMR. Your caloric intake should be that multiplied by your Harris-Benedict Equation multiplier. When I was trying to lose weight, I aimed for the "sedentary" activity level (1.2x), even though I my activity level was moderately active (1.375x). That difference was about 500 calories/day (at first, I was shooting for 1700 - 1900, but upped that and my activity level).

Result: 27 July 2007 -> 196 lb. 31 December 2007 -> 150 lb. 21 Aug 2008 -> 150 lb.

You need more to eat than that. 1500 calories is barely a tooth full.
